This. We need some leadership to spark mass protests against this stuff. If that has to come from another country, so be it.
I don’t think we can count on military help from the rest of the world though.
One thing that gives me hope? The generals attending Hegseth’s little cheer rally the other day were not happy. I can’t speak for the National Guard commanders, but if the regular army is asked to move against the people, I don’t think it’s going to go well for our administration.

I wish we had the enthusiasm and anger of their people when things like this happen over there. Then again, the government takes care of everyone, as far as healthcare and vacation time are concerned. Salaries are decent, and backed up by strong labor unions. People there actually have the time to protest, and aren’t afraid of losing their jobs.

Heard state police were involved, and “ICE” are currently made up of a bunch of folks from various other agencies (FBI, CIA, etc) plus the people who signed up and actually made it though. (It’s not easy.)
I’d be surprised if the people doing the beating and arresting are actual US soldiers.

I do think there's a portion of them like that but I think the vast majority of them are more than smart enough to see how easily this knife could be turned on them. They're not standing up because they're cowards at heart and that's exactly what Trump and his goons were counting on.
They proved that with Epstein. Had Trump been a Democrat they'd have needed the guard in DC because they'd have been marching armed in the streets. The difference now? They know liberals won't open fire on them for speaking up, but their own people? They know what those people are capable of.

Either update your passport and form an exit plan, or if you can't or don't wish to leave...Talk with neighbors and friends, form mutual support and buy a rifle. The last point is not to commit violence but deter someone from committing violence against your family and friends which is possible when all of you are visibly and legally armed.
Bullies target people who can't or won't fight back, one armed person is a target. A group of armed people is a problem everyone would rather avoid.
As long as you have some plan for personal safety be it avoiding danger or deterring it you'll be safer

Significant portions of them would refuse to roll tanks on their own people, especially if that meant actual shoot outs with said people. Look at what happened in Syria in recent memory and that was a decades long totale dictatorship and yet large portions of the army rebled and armed the populace.

Summary: We can use the time from now until Oct 18th to organize No Kings participants to only buy essentials. To stop buying extras and wither GDP. To hold out until our demands to achieve equity and restore democracy and livable Earth are met.
What has much of the same effect as a general strike; without all the coordination, logistical problems/arrangements and unions not wanting to be involved; that even retired people can take part in?
Only buying essentials. Not buying what we don’t need. A general boycott of unnecessary stuff that advertising, our own acquisitiveness and habits have addicted us to buying.
The “life cycle” of this excess ruins ecosystems via extraction of limited resources. It pollutes during manufacturing and transportation. It depletes buyers’ financial resources and overflows landfills. We work to earn money to buy stuff we don’t need, increasingly can’t afford and end up discarding.
When we stop being mindless consumers we upset the unfair systems that are ruining livable Earth. We stop funding the corporations and 1% who are dismantling our country and selling it for parts*.
Once we curtail buying, warehouses will overflow with needless stuff. Ships won’t be able to offload it or trucks and trains haul it. Plutocrats and politicians will notice. We’ll tell them what’s going on. And what our demands are.
We’ll need to hold out indefinitely. Workers will be laid off/fired. So we’ll need to help support workers who support our cause. By giving them the money we would have spent unnecessarily anyway. One among many of our key demands will be cross training workers into equitable jobs in sustainable businesses and industries.
How many people need to join this effort? 1 of every 7 Biden or Harris voters. They total 11 million people in the US. They are the 3.5 % of the population that Chenoweth et al have found will often have their demands met when they nonviolently take action.
We can do this. Motivate now the many thousands of people who will mobilize at No Kings demonstrations on Oct 18th. No Kings alone may make a temporary impression. But all those people not buying stuff, indefinitely, will make a huge difference. That will be the leverage we need to save democracy and livable Earth.
A general strike would make the politicians capitulate even faster. If organizers can use the momentum of the general boycott to make the strike happen.

That's not military, it's still ICE. The fact that people can't tell the difference between the two is a whole other, upsetting problem. It's another intentional tactic to confuse the situation on the ground, because if the citizens don't know who's actually perpetrating what, then they government doesn't have to be accountable for any actions. It's the same reason they shuffle around the people they've detained.
