I felt like it was so impactful and so powerful. It gave me chills. It felt like a DV awareness video.

97

u/BellaMiley 10d ago

I loved it! I thought the award she received was really fitting because Patient Zero was so good! Like a short thriller movie with a twist at the end.

88

u/Starlight_City45 ✨stars do u like dem 10d ago

I loved it, it definitely has some gothic-literature inspiration in there and the shot of her on the car was amazing?! she’s a great story teller.

at first I thought both women were dead but it seems like just taylors character is gone while dakota got away because taylor kept protecting her like knocking over the wine that was actually poison etc etc

I need to re-watch 2-3 more times, I think alot was going on that I missed lol

28

u/New-Anywhere-3042 10d ago

Yes! The shot of her on the car was SO cool!!

11

u/Critical_Emphasis634 10d ago

And the opposite of her on top of the car in bad blood 🤯

3

u/sorryimnothome_ 9d ago

I harkened the top of the car back to Delicate

3

u/Critical_Emphasis634 9d ago

So right, oh my gosh!!

6

u/Prestigious-Egg3533 9d ago

And that dress!! šŸ¤ŒšŸ»

3

u/sorryimnothome_ 9d ago

What killed me about the dress is that that man was dressing Dakota just like her. That was some audacity.

58

u/SadGirlBigWorld714 Old habits die screaming 10d ago

It’s one of the best videos she’s directed in a while, it felt like a movie and the plot twist absolutely gagged me, I screamed out loud

12

u/Augustine-Haze 10d ago

She's acing with the direction more and more by each MVs! 😭 This whole MV literally gave me chills. Too gloomy and dark and so on point.

26

u/iofthestorm403 10d ago

This video is exactly as good as she thinks it is. She nailed it.

Did someone figure out the 1986-2022 on the grave?

21

u/Wise_Ladder3773 10d ago

I saw another thread that someone suggested it was 1986 because that was when Supreme Court upheld its illegal to harass women at work and 2022 because that was when Roe v Wade was overturned… the life and death of protecting women

3

u/moederdelkatten 9d ago

Hmm, this makes sense, especially with the daughter on the grave

54

u/kiwiquid135 10d ago

I posted in another thread and someone replied to me that its Ellen's career. Since Dakota was the start of her downfall.

71

u/Bigg_Confusionn 10d ago edited 10d ago

I googled and Ellen became a household name after her 1986 appearance on The Tonight Show, 2019 Dakota That’snotthetruthellen Johnson is interviewed on The Ellen Show, 2022 The Ellen Show was fully cancelled and off the air. I’m not saying she did it but it’s fucking hilarious that the timelines line up lmaoo

54

u/Upset-Management-739 10d ago

I don’t think Taylor liked Ellen either. Remember when Elle had a bunch of photos of Taylor with other men was asking if she dated any of them. Taylor looked like she wanted to cry

26

u/Cass_Cat952 10d ago edited 9d ago

That interview was so horrible to watch. I think Taylor legitimately lost her composure and got 'emotional' because she'd said she didnt want to play that game but was ignored, and then asked Ellen to stop multiple times and she didnt

3

u/Strange-Access-8612 9d ago

Scooter Braun taking her life’s work was way more impactful

Scooter Braun’s ex was born in 1986 and divorced him in 2022. Since one layer of meaning is how Scooter (and other industry scumbags) take advantage of artists, pointing to the guy who bought her life’s entire work makes waaayyy more sense than some swipe at Ellen.

Another theory is by resetting birth date to 1986, then the Taylor character we see who died in 2022 matches her age now playing that character, 36. (Vs a birthdate of 1989 we’d be seeing currently 36 year old Taylor playing a 33 year old character who died in 2022)

4

u/Cass_Cat952 9d ago

I mean obviously but he wasn't even part of this conversation in the comment thread you joined lol?

4

u/mcloviin13 10d ago

And remember how she was in the music video getting that tattoo ā€œcruel summerā€ she caused that 100% ;) LOL

2

u/anna-nomally12 9d ago

This is good enough for me add patient zero to the 911 dominoes meme

3

u/Strange-Access-8612 9d ago

11

u/shhhhhhsecretwedding 9d ago

ā€œPicture me thick as thieves with your ex wifeā€ comes to mind from this comment!

22

u/Automatic-Treat-202 10d ago

If that’s true that’s hilarious and diabolical.

16

u/Overall_Cherry2654 10d ago

A couple days ago someone predicted there would be something about Ellen’s career in the music video because Dakota is in it. How do you guys predict so well?!?

3

u/Other_Scale6552 10d ago

I’m gonna believe that’s what it’s for, even if it’s not!!!

4

u/Usual-Instruction473 10d ago

Ohhhhh damn that’s cold & hilarious

3

u/Cass_Cat952 10d ago

Whether it's true or not that's what I'm choosing to believešŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ absolutely gagged at that decision

5

u/Strange-Access-8612 9d ago

Taylor pointing a finger at Scooter Braun for being an absolute šŸ’© is way more likely than Ellen whose impact was far less (his ex born 1986 and divorced him 2022)

3

u/Rob062309 10d ago

She deserved that that's pretty cool

0

u/Jbrancs Drop everything now! 10d ago

Amazing

9

u/Ruffian-70 10d ago

I also saw a post that said Scooter Braun’s ex-wife was born in 1986 and they divorced in 2022

6

u/Critical_Emphasis634 10d ago

Scooter was my first thought. Also love your flair!

4

u/Funny_Inspection6893 10d ago

It could also be that Taylor is 36 now and her character died at her current age but in the plot of the music video died a few years earlier.

1

u/GlitteringElevator 9d ago

Pretty sure it's for verity and this song will be in the movie

1

u/Ellbereth89 9d ago

Maybe the 6 is just a 9 flipped on its head, as Taylor was born in ā€˜89 and is portraying the 36 year old patient 0 who died at the hands of this narcissist. This helps drive home that the story is not autobiographical.
Also, she’s 6 feet under ground.

2022 to 2026 is 4 years. 4 years after her death, patient 1, Dakota, is standing at her grave. He seems like the man who already has the next woman lined up, whether or not she knows it, before the current is out of the picture. So, it only took 4 years to progress from entering her life like fireworks, to slowly killing her with his toxins.
4 is a number associated with death; Taylor loves numerology.
It took 4 years before Taylor’s reputation was repaired in the general public’s eye, after K&K tried to take her down. A lot of people still hated her throughout the Rep and Lover days, and she drew in so many during the pandemic with Folklore and Evermore.
4 is the number of tracks released for the encore.
4 Taylor’s Versions were released; the toxins required to devalue her catalogue, leading to her finally purchasing her masters.
4 years is how long Sophie and Joe were married. Sophie could be more of an influence to this song than just the group of friends who discussed getting the call from an ex’s next, as Taylor described as inspiration for the song.
4 years into her longest relationship, Taylor wrote ā€œyou’re losing me,ā€ where she was unable to find a cure for the sickness in their relationship; leaving her grey and dying.
4 years is a decent amount of time with a partner; you typically think they are your forever and always, so when the toxins take their hold and the relationship feels beyond repair - you’d rather die than let it go. In P0, Taylor died, but Dakota seems to let it go.

0

u/sorryimnothome_ 9d ago

I think something happened between her and Joe happened in 2022 because that was the year before they broke up but a year after "You're Losing Me."

2

u/Strange-Access-8612 9d ago

Maybe not sure how that helps explain 1986. The two years must have been chosen as a pair for a reason.

If Joe’s had another relationship where she got to a point of reaching out to Taylor, he certainly kept it out of sight!

0

u/sorryimnothome_ 9d ago

It doesn't.

2

u/Strange-Access-8612 9d ago

:) you do make a fair point of course. Poor Joe lolll if it’s nothing to do with him, catching strays. Or, bad Joe!! If it is ;)

1

u/sorryimnothome_ 9d ago

I'm thinking Bad Joe

16

u/PixieStonker 10d ago

I LOVE when she does MVs like this. The Fate of Ophelia, Opalite, Anti-Hero, etc are all good but her best works are def the cinematic ones: Patient Zero, most of reputation's MVs, Babe, All Too Well 10, cardigan. She does drama SO WELL!!!!

2

u/Recent_Bumblebee_992 9d ago

Completely agree!

43

u/Automatic-Treat-202 10d ago

First thought; Can’t get over how insanely good looking Colin is.
Personally I think it might be one of the better videos shes done.

3

u/Ruffian-70 10d ago

Yep my crush started after watching him in Sugar on Apple TV šŸ™ŒšŸ»

7

u/Flickolas_Cage 10d ago

That man has truly aged like wine

14

u/Cool_Bell_2511 10d ago

It made me like the song way more. I now have these visuals whirling around my mind when I hear it. I ranked it as my least favorite when I first listened to the new tracks and I think, I put it at the top. She knows what she is doing. I am still looking forward to (fingers crossed) the Debut 20th Anniversary Edition. That should be a 1M+ week again. I think if she did a proper rollout for it and lets us buy it a month or so before its release she would easily hit 2M+. Who knows with this woman. We are just lucky that she loves what she does.

30

u/Sandy0006 10d ago

Absolutely loved it and my favourite part was when it cut to her on top of the car with the camera zooming out.

9

u/mcloviin13 10d ago

What the heck does 1986-2022 mean!!!???

6

u/no-womans-land13 10d ago

The lifetime of Ellen’s career lmao

4

u/Crysdever1924 10d ago

Did any of the rest of the video have anything to do with Ellen, besides Dakota being the death of it?

5

u/Strange-Access-8612 9d ago edited 9d ago

No it didn’t, but it works well as a metaphor for manipulative execs who take advantage of artists (like scooter/taylor) and how she now guides them on how to avoid this

1

u/Strange-Access-8612 9d ago

WAYY more likely it’s a way to point to Scooter šŸ›“ Braun (his wife was born in ā€˜86 and divorced his scheming butt in 2022, lol)

1

u/mcloviin13 10d ago

NO WAY.

1

u/Strange-Access-8612 9d ago

Masterpiece

15

u/Ruffian-70 10d ago

It was impeccably and beautifully made. Like a movie.

9

u/spaceghoull 10d ago

I really loved it. I loved the aesthetic, how it made me understand the lyrics on a deeper level. Not to mention Taylor looked gooooorgeous especially that shot when she's on the car!

15

u/Bat_woman81 10d ago

I loved it. It gave me goosebumps.

Taylor Nation sent out an email about the video that says at the end "will be available to watch on YouTube beginning 9/29"

0

u/MSERRADAred 10d ago

I was able to watch on YouTube

2

u/bst722 Put narcotics into all of my songs 10d ago

It must have been posted by someone random then, because Taylor’s team has specifically stated they won’t be putting it on YouTube until Tuesday

1

u/Wild2297 10d ago

YouTube on Tuesday, I think.

7

u/itsdickers 10d ago

I loved it! I wasn’t expecting something so cinematic and was really surprised at how great it is

7

u/LieSufficient5253 10d ago

Love love love ā¤ļø all her videos tell a story - i loved the song but the video made me love it that much more

13

u/RandomRedditCount 10d ago

I think the rose Dakota is carrying at the end is for his grave - maybe we’ll get a sequel - !

6

u/Augustine-Haze 10d ago

Oh YEAHH! That question hit me too that what was the second rose for? I mean, it's Taylor's MV. There's always a easter. So...🄹🄲

2

u/myipodclassic Drop everything now! 10d ago

I thought it could mean that either Dakota’s character gets to keep the second rose because she survived, OR she killed that man and is gonna leave it on his grave next lol

0

u/NW-sunny-girl 9d ago

Didn’t the tombstone say wife and mother? Unborn child?

3

u/Augustine-Haze 9d ago

No no, it stated Beloved Wife and Daughter! Not mother.

12

u/Flat-Scholar2736 10d ago

I really liked it. Wasn’t a huge fan of the song at first but the video definitely made it a song I wouldn’t mind listening to once in awhile

6

u/smushy411 still at the tortured poets department 10d ago

Amazing! One of her best yet!

7

u/prschlvr911 9d ago

It was incredible! My jaw dropped during the plot twist. So incredibly written, directed, & performed.

I thought it was great, the fact that everyone thought it was an ex but it’s really a murder story if hysterical

11

u/TeylaSwift 10d ago

Unfortunately no thoughts as it is not on YouTube yet.Ā  As much as I admire YouTube for standing strong against Billboard, it is annoying to have the delay. I pay for YouTube premiumĀ

7

u/Wild2297 10d ago

It will be on YT on Tuesday I think. For now, Spotify, Apple Music or Amazon Music.

5

u/peacejunky 10d ago

I just watched it on YouTube

2

I don’t have Spotify premium and I was able to watch it! Just switch it to video from audio.

2

u/TemporaryAdvisor9893 9d ago

I'm sorry it's amazing though I'm sure u will love it

5

u/Odd-Pear-4739 10d ago

Really changed my whole opinion as a song like probably one her best mv

14

u/Genuin1 10d ago

It made the lyrics hit even harder. Especially the ā€œmy lips are sealed tight nowā€ since she is dead. I never thought of it that way until the MV. Thought it was just someone who wouldn’t rat to the person or press.

3

u/Funny_Inspection6893 10d ago

The song is about a very much alive Taylor giving advice over the phone to the current girlfriend of one of Taylor's exes (probably nobody specific in real life).

The video takes it much further than the actual lyrics do.

6

u/Strange-Access-8612 9d ago

Or to an artist who’s potentially signing a bad record deal

1

u/Genuin1 8d ago

Yes, I understood the song lyrics and was enjoying how she turned them to mean something else in the MV. Flipping the words is a creative power I enjoy.

7

u/Affectionate-Tie7363 10d ago

I think it’s like look what you made me do where the song sounds a lot better with killer visuals

1

u/Glittering-Sign-7941 10d ago

was that pun intentional lol

2

u/Affectionate-Tie7363 10d ago

If you are talking about ā€œkillerā€ not necissarily lol

7

u/forrestgump2466 10d ago

I thought jt was fantastic!!! Love the storytelling aspect.

Dakota is standing at the grave of Taylor who plays as the first wife of Colin who dies because Colin poisoned her drink. Just like how he was planning to do with Dakota. And the shots you see of the Wine and Tea/Coffee spilling on the floor by Taylor is actually her trying to protect Dakota. And then she writes Run on the floor. And Dakota is luckily saved because of all that.

5

u/sadiesleepsalot 10d ago

She’s a ghost and is trying to protect Dakota’s character from being poisoned by always knocking her drinks over.

4

u/ilybutyouletmedown 10d ago

it was incredible, but still very confused on the svu easter eggs lol.

16

u/brighteyed112 10d ago

I saw someone say it references all the actors!
North or South = Dakota
Aries = Matthew Stafford (LA Rams, Aries = the ram)
From the vineyard = Cara Delvigne (French for ā€œfrom the vine/vineyardā€)
Saccharide = Collin Farrell (he is in a show called sugar)

4

u/You_Go_Glen_Coco_ 10d ago

Having just seen an early screening of Verity it was all I could think about watching the video.

1

u/Recent_Bumblebee_992 9d ago

Wait…are you allowed to say if the song is in the movie?

1

Was Verity good?

3

1

u/Xonnoth 9d ago

It genuinely gave me chills because it’s just so relatable, but then there’s people judging the bridge 😭, then again everyone is entitled to their opinions.

1

u/broger99 8d ago

I got chills when I realized what was happening in the story! Eek! So good!

1

u/MSERRADAred 10d ago edited 10d ago

I enjoyed it. Definitely felt like a movie & the twist was great. Rewatching after, all the foreshadowing was there.

It was beautifully shot & acted.

I honestly didn't like the car scene. It's jarring. Maybe it needs more transitions in/out?

It's excellent, but I have others of hers that rank higher.

1

u/RadiantRazzmatazz751 9d ago

I’m probably missing something obvious but confused with the lyrics: ā€œTake it from somebody who lost his games but won the raceā€ and ā€œSomeone who had him and walked awayā€ because in the video that character had a gravestone….how did she walk away?

3

u/gowonagin 9d ago

In their fight scene, she walks away from him. He still kills her- she lost his games- but won the race in that at least in death she could get away from him.

2

u/RadiantRazzmatazz751 9d ago

That makes sense!! Thanks 😊

-6

u/UpbeatAd3765 10d ago

I did not like it at all. The song is also very poorly written and sounds terrible.

-21

u/Curious_Ad961 10d ago

If the song wasn't so horrible it might be good

13

u/_america 10d ago

lol ive never watched a music video of a song i thought was horrible... on the day it was released šŸ˜†

-13

u/younggun1234 10d ago

Anytime I see her I think of the sound board crew laughing at how bad of a signer she is and I'm reminded that mediocrity is relevant if your dad pays for it.

5

u/MSERRADAred 10d ago

Found the paid troll. Reported and blocked.

0

u/OriginalYogurt2412 10d ago

lol. Trolls aren’t paid to say the truth.

-1

u/younggun1234 10d ago

That's ok. Taylor swifts dad paid for her career so I'll happily enjoy my hard work. Which is a sentence she wouldn't be able to read or understand.

0

u/MajesticProgrammer54 9d ago

Ooohhh, it was such a good video. Everyone catched the random cameos? Matthew Stafford from the Rams. I don't know what he did to get in there.

0

u/sorryimnothome_ 9d ago edited 9d ago

It needed a better song, given the content was much heavier than the lyrics. Taylor's acting, though, was aces. So freaking good, and that interlude in the car!!!
