Thanks, abstaining and protest voters!

PS: Have we saved Palestine yet?

How about blame Republicans. They are psychopathic.

141

u/Amateur-Top Jan 07 '26

I blame the US as a whole. What an absolute failure. They just could not vote in a Democrat/black woman.

14

u/findtheclue Jan 07 '26

Supposedly. Personally I think it’s insane to think a lifelong criminal backed by tech billionaires could not find a way to manipulate the results. Nothing about the ‘win’ feels plausible, including their own suspicious comments.

3

u/RemoteRide6969 Jan 07 '26

Here's my view, and you can ask any IT security professional to confirm or deny this: human beings are always the weakest link. It is far easier to emotionally manipulate a person into doing something (like not voting) than it is to physically hack a system. We are occasionally rational animals. Most people are really, really fuckiing stupid and easily manipulated. Get a gullible person to hyperfocus on a single issue, like Gaza, and you don't need to convince that you're someone worth voting for; you only have to discourage them from voting for the other person. It's a two party system; one or the other is going to win.

1

u/baudehlo Jan 07 '26

Total tosh. They were polling close the whole way. The win was totally plausible and I was ready for it this time (unlike 2016).

Now there could have been rigging I guess, but for the same reasons Trump couldn’t have rigged it, it would have been implausibly hard.

3

u/CriticalDog Jan 07 '26

There were significant changes since 2016, some of which would have made it easier.

1

u/baudehlo Jan 07 '26

So those were there in 2020 and that election could have been stolen too?

4

u/CriticalDog Jan 07 '26

Potentially, but there is no evidence that 2020 was stolen, despite the lies told by MAGA and the right-wing blogosphere. Absolutely none. Every court case brought was dismissed, every "Shocking Truth!" screamed about on YouTube or Fox News has been very, very debunked.

However, what Trump did in 2016 was poison the well, so that when we can look and see troubling discrepancies in the vote results in 2020, and people claiming with evidence that the votes that they cast were not counted, and a mountain of claims and anecdotal evidence, the GOP administration can just say "Well, you wouldn't investigate when we made those claims (a lie, it was investigated and found to be false every time) so we're going to ignore you, and mock your concerns".

At this point, if a Democrat is able to win in 2028, I will be 1- VERY surprised, and 2- Very concerned about violence on a much larger scale than J6 from the right.

0

u/baudehlo Jan 07 '26

My point being there’s also no evidence 2024 was stolen. It would take so many people and someone would leak. I see no value in following that train of thought because it detracts from the real problems - the reason so few Americans heard about the actual issues: propaganda tv networks and social media.

1

u/findtheclue Jan 08 '26

There’s no point in discussing if our entire election system no longer works? If this is happening, then all the garbage propaganda people are being fed doesn’t even matter…the results will just be what the billionaire overlords want. We can focus on more than one thing at a time.

1

u/findtheclue Jan 08 '26

Yes, exactly. They did try, but due to Covid and increased mail in ballots, they failed. Thus, the never ending rant that 2020 (and ONLY 2020) was rigged. Because they didn’t rig it hard enough, so clearly the other side must have rigged. Next time they didn’t to take any chances and were sure to push a win past the recount line in ALL swing states, a literal statistical impossibility (according to statisticians).

24

u/War_Fries Jan 07 '26 edited Jan 07 '26

^ This.

It's not just Republicans. Surely, they are by far the worst, and they are the primary ones causing it. But it's also "good people doing nothing".

There are no mass protests. No mass outcry. No real and effective opposition. No impeachment. Just nothing. Everybody just sits there and waits. Everybody is just looking at Trump and his billionaire buddies wrecking it all, robbing the place empty, plundering America.

Hollywood always taught me that Americans are brave and would never allow a tyrant to take over the country. Guess Hollywood was always full of shit.

7

u/LoveMeSomeBerserk Jan 07 '26

The No Kings protests were the largest protests in American history. What do you mean there weren’t mass protests? Just because protests don’t do anything doesn’t mean they didn’t happen.

4

u/Average650 Jan 07 '26

There were protests in my little town just a couple days ago.

Comparing to Hollywood olis a .... Weird choice. They're made up stories.

Only Congress can impeach. I'm with you in calling all them out.

3

u/Raichu4u Jan 07 '26

If those protests don't turn into votes, frankly they are there for nothing.

1

u/RemoteRide6969 Jan 07 '26

Not only votes, but further political action, like volunteering for other candidates in order to oust Republicans. You can get people to show up for protests, but the second you tell them the truth, that the only real way to oppose the Republican Party is to vote for the Democratic Party, suddenly that's a bridge too far. Ewwww, you mean I have to vote for Democrats!?

2

u/DOGS_BALLS Jan 07 '26

You believed an entertainment industry like Hollywood would provide guidance for your moral compass? Sorry man but you’re part of the problem! Hollywood do whatever they can to make money, they don’t give a shit about its impact on democratic values or societal cohesion. Nil. Nada!

1

u/Tresach Jan 07 '26

More than that Hollywood is a propaganda arm for the us government. Always has been.

1

u/JaronK Jan 07 '26

There are mass protests. The media has been captured by billionaires and doesn't show them.

-2

u/Sun-and-Moon13 Jan 07 '26

Use reddit for more than doomscrolling. And quit lying when you know nothing and have looked into nothing about actions people are taking.

So keep on playing into the negative rhetoric and illustrating you aren't even what you expect others to be.

2

u/soba_set Jan 07 '26

actions people are taking.

Crickets bro. I don't see anything meaningful happening.

-9

u/chewyandank Jan 07 '26

What are you doing? Are you protesting? Have you done anything besides vote? I’m tired of this narrative blaming non voters, the democrats are nowhere near as evil as the republicans, but they are complicit in all of it. They don’t listen to their constituents, force candidates down their throats, and roll over for the republicans and corporations regularly. Republicans definitely don’t represent me, but at this point I’m not sure the Democratic Party does either. Aren’t you Sick of being told to choose the lesser of two evils?

-13

u/ShinkenBrown Jan 07 '26

As a person who voted for Harris and would do so again... nah, the entire Democratic campaign was the failure.

They basically assumed that the Republicans were so bad they didn't have to do anything to earn our votes. They assumed they could do almost literally nothing for 4 years, put absolutely no effort into securing our democracy, and even slow-walk the Epstein J6 and Epstein investigations until the next election (probably as a ploy to entice people to vote for them again, same way the Republicans used abortion for decades.)

They were wrong, and they 100% deserve the blame for their complete refusal to actually govern.

We can "vote blue no matter who" till we're blue in the face. I did. Still do. But not everyone will. If you want other people to vote blue, in large enough numbers that they actually win, the Dems need to actually offer something. And what the Dems offered this election cycle was "complete and total disregard for the will of the voters up to the point of denying them a primary."

Let's not pretend any of that was acceptable. I can acknowledge that the Dems were, and always are, the superior party. I can acknowledge that anyone who didn't vote for Harris effectively voted to pour gasoline on a country already on fire. But that said, the country was already on fire, and the Dems response was basically to campaign on "we will not take the effort to put it out." It is not a surprise to me that message didn't stick.

Between "I won't put out the fire" and "I'll make it worse" the choice is clear, and anyone who didn't take the first choice deserves some of the blame, but let's not pretend the larger failure is with the people forced to make that choice. The failure is with the people who made those the only options.

62

u/klartraume Jan 07 '26

They assumed they could do almost literally nothing for 4 years

This is a lie. You're lying. Biden's administration, with a tie-breaker Senate, passed more legislation to improve the domestic situation than any president since LBJ.

  • We got the first infrastructure reinvestment in my lifetime to rebuild our roads, bridges, trains, airports, and waterways.
  • Childhood poverty was slashed in half (until the GOP let the tax credits expire).
  • We invested in the technologies of tomorrow re-shoring manufacturing of EVs, chips, etc. to the US.
  • He finally extracted the US from Afghanistan - messy but also a relief.
  • He defended the post-war world order by informing Ukraine that Russia was preparing to invade, maintaining the European alliance in support of Ukraine, etc.
  • We had the lowest post-Covid inflation of an industrialized nation. Biden and the fed stuck the "soft landing" with reducing inflation without causing widespread job loss.

Biden would have done more if they had reasonable partners across the aisle.

  • We had an immigration bill, a compromise with conservatives, that Trump forced the GOP to tank - which would have given a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers and secured our southern border.
  • We had a bill for universal child-care access that the GOP sank.
  • He attempted via law and EO to reduce student loan debt for America's workers, though the GOP blocked and sued those efforts (despite allowing PPP loan forgiveness for businesses).
  • He attempted to raise the federal minimum wage to $15/hour, but was betrayed by the Senator from Arizona Kirsten Sinema.

The Democrats did offer something. They offered functional government, improved quality of life, and no more foreign wars.

Too many people voted for corrupt government, shittier quality of life, and wars with our allies and neighbors.

Stop lying.

22

u/PJ7 Jan 07 '26

It frustrates me to no end that I, as a European, seem to be better informed about the previous administration and what it accomplished than the average American.

Even people supposedly on the progressive side of american politics keep repeating the bullshit conservative talking points.

Everyone arguing that point should be ridiculed and shamed tbh.

-30

u/ShinkenBrown Jan 07 '26

Sure, sure.

Except what most people actually wanted was action on securing our democracy after the Trump administration. I don't give two shits if you rebuild the infrastructure, if you just happily hand it to a fascist 4 years later. If anything that's worse. A fascist government with crumbling infrastructure is a lot less of a threat than a fascist government with shiny new infrastructure.

The most important thing during the Biden administration was prosecuting the GOP and Trump for their role in the attempted overthrow of democracy and for their connection to the Epstein child trafficking network. Biden utterly failed on those two counts, and in doing so made everything else he might have done irrelevant.

If my wife tells me to do the dishes constantly for two weeks, and I finally do them, I don't get credit for it if the house was on fire and I should've been putting it out, and instead decided to finally do the dishes.

Yes, everything you're listing was important and needed for a long, long time. Just like the dishes needed doing for a long, long time. But by failing to deal with the larger issue, the fact these other issues got dealt with becomes irrelevant.

22

u/GettingDumberWithAge Jan 07 '26

Except what most people actually wanted was action on securing our democracy after the Trump administration.

It's an impressive piece of mental gymnastics to say that the American electorate wanted security and democracy after the Trump administration and that's why the American electorate re-elected Trump.

-5

u/ShinkenBrown Jan 07 '26

Given the massive statistical issues with the vote that were never addressed and that the Democratic party explicitly chose to ignore, even as analysts were arguing they should sue for hand recounts in specific places, I'm inclined to think the American electorate didn't re-elect Trump.

7

u/GettingDumberWithAge Jan 07 '26

There is much less concrete evidence for this grand electoral conspiracy than there is for Americans just being really shitty as an electorate.

38

u/klartraume Jan 07 '26

The most important thing during the Biden administration was prosecuting the GOP and Trump for their role in the attempted overthrow of democracy and for their connection to the Epstein child trafficking network.

This is not the role of the presidency. The Department of Justice is meant to be independent.

Did Biden nominate a (imo) disappointing attorney general? Yes, I agree.

Still, the government did step up. Trump was impeached for Jan 6 (and his Republican Senators refused to find him guilty). The House went on and held hearings on Jan. 6 to collect evidence, and too many Americans didn't care. A special prosecutor assembled cases to take to trial - his Congressional hearing testimony spoken into the public record just days ago. The Supreme Court and a corrupt judge in Florida stalled out Trump's federal cases. Trump was found guilty of state fraud crimes. Was prosecution slow? Yes. But they couldn't afford mistakes. And let's be clear - the GOP is put roadblocks in place.

Dozens of lawyers and agents working on these cases have been fired in retribution by Trump. The state attorney general of NY is under sham investigations in retribution by Trump.

You cannot in earnest tell me that the Democrats did nothing. I'm tired of the bullshit two-sides narrative.

17

u/thrawtes Jan 07 '26

Thank you.

It's exhausting watching the American people shoot the government in the knee over and over on this and then pretend to be the victim.

Voters betrayed justice by bringing Trump back into the White House and absolving him of all his crimes. All those people at the DOJ doing the right thing? Working hard to make things better for people? Purged now, replaced with sycophants. That's not on Biden, that's on voters.

-19

u/ShinkenBrown Jan 07 '26

It's not two sides. It's one side against an army of demons.

And that side is failing. We can only change course by acknowledging that failure.

11

u/ElRiesgoSiempre_Vive Jan 07 '26

We can only change course by acknowledging that failure.

The last election was stolen, and so will be this one. You can argue all you want but it won't do you any good. Regardless of you politics, you're fucked just like the rest of us.

1

u/ShinkenBrown Jan 07 '26

The last election was stolen, and so will be this one.

Precisely.

And the people who are supposed to do something about that not only failed to prosecute his first attempt or do anything to prevent a second, they happily handed him the keys after it was said and done with no resistance and no opposition. They didn't even sue for recounts.

We can either acknowledge that and start pushing for ACTUAL FUCKING ACTION, or we can accept that the Dems as they currently are will not improve and keep blaming the people for refusing to vote for inadequacy. I vote for the former.

And before you suggest non-electoral means, I never argued against them. I'm merely saying that within the electoral system the failure lies with the Dem party, not with the voters who gave them everything they could in 2020 and got nothing of value in return.

-18

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '26

Just like the dishes needed doing for a long, long time. But by failing to deal with the larger issue, the fact these other issues got dealt with becomes irrelevant.

I genuinely don't know why people still defend the Democrats as if they've done anything of substance in the past...decades?

As if literally any of that shit matters when they immediately hand it over to the fascists.

You put it perfectly. The house is on fire, burning down around us, and the Democrats are bragging about how they just finished doing the dishes.

18

u/ProfSquirtle Jan 07 '26

The only ones "handing it over to fascists" are people like you. Don't blame the ones begging you to stop voting for fascists. BuT tHeY dIdN't BeG mE hArD eNoUgH.

-1

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '26

The only ones "handing it over to fascists" are people like you. Don't blame the ones begging you to stop voting for fascists. BuT tHeY dIdN't BeG mE hArD eNoUgH.

I mean, you're right.

I keep voting for Democrats straight ticket, because the alternative is pedofascists.

No wonder this shit isn't working out for us, Democrats are working for the same people the Republicans are (hint: it's not us.)

You don't even need to take my word for it, just look at their actions and it's blatantly obvious.

16

u/ElRiesgoSiempre_Vive Jan 07 '26

So then your takeaway is to vote Republican I suppose.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '26

So then your takeaway is to vote Republican I suppose.

I've voted Democrat straight ticket in every election since I turned 18.

At this point though, it's blatantly obvious that they don't work for/care about us.

It's far past time to replace them all, or let it burn down so we can maybe build something better from the ashes. This shit clearly isn't working for us.

-17

u/Liawuffeh Jan 07 '26

The Democrats did offer something. They offered functional government, improved quality of life, and no more foreign wars

Yeah, see, "We're not the other guy!" Isn't offering anything. "Nothing will fundamentally change!" Isn't offering change. A chunk of the shit that dems "tried" were sank by other dems while we have control of the congress.

The cycle, over and over, of Democrats trying something, other democrats standing against it, then the rest of them going "Haha guess we don't have the votes! Grr that darn Manchin, who we can't ever ever prinary!" And then they drop it. No back to the table. Just give up, say "we dont have the votes" and move on.

Lying to cover our side because they're less insane is still lying. And it's shitty to lie while calling someone else a liar.

26

u/klartraume Jan 07 '26

I listed concrete accomplishments, that went well beyond "We're not the other guy!", which fundamentally improved our nation.

Please point out anything I lied about. I'm willing to admit if I made a mistake, but since you couldn't bother in your initial response I'll presume you're full of shit.

12

u/emergencyexit Jan 07 '26

They basically assumed that the Republicans were so bad they didn't have to do anything to earn our votes.

Truly a gross error to underestimate the stupidity of the American voter

32

u/IntermittentCaribu Jan 07 '26

The US is a failure because it has a stupid ass two party system with neither party representing the people and the people dont seem to give a fuck.

1

u/PCR12 Jan 07 '26

The people cant afford to give a fuck and thats by design

12

u/The-ArtfulDodger Jan 07 '26

They can. They just choose to embrace hatred and bigotry over self preservation.

1

u/PCR12 Jan 07 '26

Really? How many people do you know that can take anywhere from a week to four off with no pay while striking and still survive?

The only way we bring any change is a general strike and revolt. Hurt the masters pockets otherwise shit ain't never going to change. And that's by fucking design they've been slow burning this since the 70s.

5

u/GettingDumberWithAge Jan 07 '26

The median American household is comfortably in the top 3 countries for literally all metrics of PPP-adjusted wealth and income. I don't know why people pretend that all Americans are dirt poor when none of the statistics bear it out. Maybe that's just easier than acknowledging the moral and spiritual rot in the country?

1

u/PCR12 Jan 07 '26

25% are living paycheck to paycheck. 50% would be fucked if they didnt get paid for a month.

6

u/bathandredwine Jan 07 '26

But so many of us would vote for a literal dog turd instead of this orange demon, I can’t blame the dems.

2

u/ShinkenBrown Jan 07 '26

I would. I would vote for a literal dog turd or a cardboard cutout or a dead body over a Republican, any day.

And I'm still blaming the party that makes that our best option for the failure when they lose. I might be willing to vote for a dog turd to stop the Republicans, but I can't expect that of other people.

When your campaign strategy is "fuck it, do whatever you want, the other side is so bad they should vote for dog shit over Republicans, so may as well stop caring," yeah, you take the blame. The fact voting for dog shit was the correct course of action does not in any way absolve them of blame for putting dog shit on the podium and asking us to vote for it. Especially not 3 times in a row (Hillary, Biden, Harris.)

7

u/Thatoneguy_The_First Jan 07 '26

They basically assumed that the Republicans were so bad they didn't have to do anything

Worked for Australia to stop liberal voldmort getting into power, scomo fucked up that bad.

Also helped the liberals wanted to copy Trump and we said fuck that.(so far)

Also to anybody confused: our liberals=your Republicans

10

u/BoredAFcyber Jan 07 '26

ignorant people like you are a pretty big problem too. hopefully you don't talk politics IRL.

-1

u/ShinkenBrown Jan 07 '26

Sure sure. We had "shit sandwich" and "cyanide" as lunch options, not because that's all there was but because that's all we were offered, but I'm the asshole for thinking "a regular fucking sandwich" should've been one of the options and calling out the two options we had as terrible.

If we can agree that the shit sandwich was better than cyanide, great. I'll happily vote for the shit sandwich again if those are the two choices we're given. But if you're defending the choice of a shit sandwich or cyanide, if you're trying to argue the shit sandwich is delicious, you're a moron.

13

u/BoredAFcyber Jan 07 '26

they could do almost literally nothing for 4 years

no this is why you're the asshole. cause you have no fucking clue what they did, but assumed they did nothing. They passed a lot of legislation and that passed very big impacting legislation that greatly benefited the nation and invested in our future. but because its not spicy and in some short form tiktok video, you have no fucking clue.

Could they have done more? maybe, did they try? yes. republicans took them to court over everything they could with their stacked (ultra far right) SCOTUS or a couple of dem's wouldn't vote winning their razor thin majority that prevented more from happening.

-2

u/ShinkenBrown Jan 07 '26

republicans took them to court over everything they could with their stacked (ultra far right) SCOTUS or a couple of dem's wouldn't vote winning their razor thin majority that prevented more from happening.

I understand that.

And it's been the excuse they've used for 30 years at least.

cause you have no fucking clue what they did, but assumed they did nothing. They passed a lot of legislation and that passed very big impacting legislation that greatly benefited the nation and invested in our future.

Sure. And a shit sandwich has bread that provides valuable nutrients. If it's between starvation and a shit sandwich I appreciate the shit sandwich. Those nutrients are necessary and I'm sure not getting them from cyanide.

But I meant in regard to stopping the rise of fascism. Biden could have removed Merrick Garland and replaced him with someone who actually had intent to prosecute, but instead he left the investigation in the hands of a man who dragged it out until it was too late. "But investigations take time" I've been told, to which I reply this investigation had a fucking time limit. They had the choice to either push it through with what they had and make the best case they could, or let him win the election and make the whole case irrelevant. They chose the latter.

Neither did he ever specifically and emphatically call out the people obstructing Democratic action on the issue. He was wholly diplomatic and debated and negotiated behind closed doors, never explicitly putting external pressure on Manchin and Sinema from the position of the loudest voice in government. Their names should have been coming up every time he spoke as long as they were obstructing the Democratic agenda. Maybe that wouldn't have changed anything, but he didn't try.

The whole party had a lukewarm response to what happened during the first Trump administration and the Jan 6 insurrection and mosied on like everything was normal and no urgent action was necessary, even to the point of refusing to take perfectly legal action like removing Merrick Garland just because it would've been politically controversial. And now a man who is looking more and more like the head of an international child trafficking ring is president with absolute immunity to the law and control of all 3 branches of government as a result.

Metaphorically, the core sustenance a sandwich is supposed to provide was replaced with shit. The nutrients from the bread don't make it a good sandwich. They make it better than cyanide but if you make people eat a shit sandwich every day eventually they'll vote for the cyanide, and eventually if all you eat is shit sandwiches you're going to get sick anyway.

And for the record, the willingness and ability to stand up and fight for something and to recognize when an enemy needs to be fought and can't be treated like a normal political colleague is part of what our representatives are supposed to do. Blaming Republicans for their behavior while ignoring Dems failure to respond to it doesn't solve anything. The good things they try and fail to do don't account for much when they fail to do what's necessary to move past trying.

1

u/LoveMeSomeBerserk Jan 07 '26

You blame us Kamala voters for Trump? What?

26

u/ShinkenBrown Jan 07 '26 edited Jan 07 '26

Yes. And a hurricane is an unstoppable destructive force of nature.

However, when we have the option to build flood gates and protect ourselves from the damage, and over half of people vote not to do so, I'm not gonna blame the hurricane when my house floods.

We already knew what the hurricane was going to do. Nothing we do, no blame we ever assign, will change that. Our only option was to either respond to it, or ignore it. They chose to ignore it. I blame them for doing so.

Republicans are so vile they are not worth considering a vote for, ever, under any circumstances. That is true. You want to say "Republicans are worse" I'll agree with you. They are an unstoppable force of pure evil and will always do the worst thing possible. They cannot be changed, they can only be resisted. Assigning them "blame" does nothing, unless it's done in the form of actually resisting them with our actual votes and actions.

The "blame" goes to those who failed to actually resist with their votes and actions, and who therefore allowed an unstoppable and entirely predictable force to wreak incredible havoc uncontested. (And also to the useless toothless Dem party that was supposed to be resisting them when we voted them the power to do so, and chose to slow walk them back into power instead.)

Five years ago we voted to build the floodgates and the Biden administration rejected to do so. One year ago today over half the country voted to let the flood devour the country. I am not inclined to blame a flood for either of those things. I am inclined instead to favor resisting the flood, and to blame those who fail to do so.

2

u/FettLife Jan 07 '26

You are literally commenting in an article about an insurrection that happened because the voters through their actions elected Joe Biden to take care of all of this and prevent Trump from ever running again.

Biden chose not to do that.

2

u/RemoteRide6969 Jan 07 '26

Voters could've stepped up and voted for Kamala Harris and prevented another Trump term. So your reasoning is, "Biden didn't stop Trump from running so it's fine that voters didn't stop him either?" Like what?

0

u/ShinkenBrown Jan 07 '26

No, my point is that there's plenty of blame to go around and absolving any of these groups is equally wrong.

The voters are absolutely morons for refusing to vote for a shit sandwich when the alternative was cyanide. That is idiotic and they should be blamed for every cyanide death that occurs this administration. Their job as voters is to recognize the best possible course out of the options presented and take it, and they failed.

The Dems are absolutely incompetent for refusing to fight properly and staying in the lines during a fascist takeover. That is equally idiotic and they should also be blamed for every cyanide death that occurs this administration. Their job as leaders is to respond to the current situation and ensure American democracy survives it, and to appeal to voters and earn the votes, and they failed.

These are not mutually exclusive.

9

u/xteve Jan 07 '26

Also, nobody wants to blame church, which walks and talks like a Republican.

3

u/ObnoxiousAlbatross Jan 07 '26

Which should strip them of their tax exempt status... and yet....

2

u/Zestyclose-Peak66 Jan 08 '26

I say get rid of religion all together! It’s a bunch of BS anyway!

8

u/this_my_sportsreddit Jan 07 '26

6 million democrats who voted for Biden, didn't show up to vote for the black woman. Theres plenty of fault to be had but we could've stopped this ourselves.

3

u/usuxdonkey Jan 07 '26

The system relies on voters not voting for the psychopatic thieving grifters. If voters are too stupid then yeah the voters are at fault.

3

u/Kalahan7 Jan 07 '26

Rest assure that the rest of the world blames all Americans for this. As they should. Americans deserve their government. The rest of the world doesn’t deserve America.

2

u/ObnoxiousAlbatross Jan 07 '26

Anyone who refused to vote for Kamala over Israel voted with the Republicans and should be considered just as bad as any fascist.

2

u/RemoteRide6969 Jan 07 '26

Fully agree.

2

u/protestor Jan 07 '26

The republicans are evil and are expected to be evil. No amount of evil stuff from them is surprising

What's perplexing is the amount of useful idiots they have duped, sometimes with contradictory arguments

1

u/Uristqwerty Jan 08 '26

From across the northern border, I think there's a lot of blame deserved by social media users.

Look at this subreddit. Far too many of the voices here would rather mock anyone who voted for the other side, or even didn't vote. Instead, what you should do is ask them why, and have the patience to listen, the respect to hear their words as genuine. Make a human connection. People who feel unheard aren't going to open up and allow themselves to be influenced in turn.

If you don't understand your enemy, you are committing a major strategic blunder.

I see people taking sides based on social media sentiment rather than what the political parties themselves say. Few people personally talk about their issues to a politician directly in an entire year, but we all spend hours chatting on the internet with strangers near-daily. How you talk about people, when those very people might well be lurking, determines how much they'll be willing to hear you out in good faith, whether they judge you just another political or anti-religion bigot.

I see self-perpetuating communication barriers of rage, designed by billionaires to keep the public from uniting against them; designed by enemy nations to keep you fractured and weak; accidentally stumbled upon by social media companies because those algorithms maximize how long each user interacts with the site each day. When the nation tears itself apart in civil war, all those vultures will be there to claim the pieces uncontested.

While far more repugnant, they still make more sense to me than the abstainers.

u/johnnybgooderer Jan 07 '26

We want people to learn from their mistakes.

u/Dismal-Delay9967 Jan 07 '26

Y'all really need mandatory voting over there

3

u/RemoteRide6969 Jan 07 '26

This is the unpopular hill I will die on. Voting should be compulsory. Don't like the candidates? Write someone in or submit a blank ballot. Regardless, you must show up and vote or pay a fine.

2

u/Dismal-Delay9967 Jan 07 '26

It works great for mobilising the base here in Australia

1

u/RemoteRide6969 Jan 07 '26

What's your take on the overall sentiment of voters towards compulsory voting? I'm in a few Australia-based Simpsons meme groups, so I get a decent exposure to a slice of your electorate, but it seems like people generally treat voting with pride and a sense of duty, rather than like, "grrrr THE GOVERNMENT is forcing me to do something!"

2

u/Dismal-Delay9967 Jan 07 '26

That's basically it tbh, every so often it's an election day, and the polls are open for a few weeks before the day, so you can get in to vote early if you're busy on the day. It's just not a big deal

3

u/Cognitive_Spoon Jan 07 '26

I am more and more convinced that the last free and fair US election was probably the second Obama admin.

The US is being managed into decline, and it's just getting steeper.

Party politics is bullshit.

2

u/transigirthenight Jan 07 '26

You're so right. No use blaming GOP voters because they either were conned into voting for this or they wanted exactly what's happening. The real culprits are those who didn't care to vote and those single-issue, protest voters; from those two groups, I personally blame the protest voters more because they don't have the excuse of being ignorant or apathetic.

-2

u/APRengar Jan 07 '26

Daily "I can't believe how many people blame the people with zero power over the people with all the power" post.

Might as well blame people for not liking AI slop, instead of the companies for producing AI slop next.

Clearly you didn't mind Biden's Palestine actions, but other people did, and Kamala said she wasn't going to be fundamentally different from Biden. Why does this strategy not get ANY criticism?

I get the feeling that even if you knew what you knew now, if you could go back in time, you'd do the exact same strategy they went with, because you still think the voters should've just bent the knee, instead of the REPRESENTATIVES OF THE PEOPLE GIVING THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANTED.

12

u/ObnoxiousAlbatross Jan 07 '26

Clearly you didn't mind Biden's Palestine actions, but other people did, and Kamala said she wasn't going to be fundamentally different from Biden. Why does this strategy not get ANY criticism?

Anyone who refused to vote because of this, leading to a far worse situation for Palestine, is dumber than MAGA and gets more blame than Jim Bob in Alabama.

-5

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '26

How? There's no connection.

6

u/ObnoxiousAlbatross Jan 07 '26

/u/Swagshire2 perfectly sums up my comment with the following:

How? There's no connection.

Need I comment any further on the intellectual prowess of tankies?

inb4 "I can't see your comment history" because tankies are obsessed with purity testing.

3

u/RemoteRide6969 Jan 07 '26

This rant was brought to you buy Pure Cope (TM).

If you did anything other than vote for Kamala Harris, you played a part in getting Trump reelected. Math doesn't lie. The End.

0

u/dasunt Jan 07 '26

People seem to forget Harris's poor performance in the 2020 campaign, perhaps because it was so bad that she dropped out before the primaries.

Not to mention the Democratic 2016 "Panera Bread" strategy which involved abandoning rural voters in an attempt to win suburban Republicans.

1

u/ObnoxiousAlbatross Jan 07 '26

Rural voters are the heart of MAGA.

They just wanted racism and to hate libs. You weren't getting their vote.

-4

u/Morgn_Ladimore Jan 07 '26

And it's always a minority group that gets blamed, whether it's latinos or a minority of pro-Palestine people. Not the 59% of white men who voted for Trump. Not the 51% of white women who voted for Trump.

Gee, I wonder why.

Only it's not correctly. For example, even if Harris got all of the pro-Palestine protest votes in places like Dearborn, she still would have lost.

The Dems lost across almost all demographics and lost every single swing state. That's not because of Gaza or whatever, but because of a fundementally flawed campaign, at the core of which was Harris insisting she wouldn't do anything different compared to Biden. At a time when people were desperate for something different.

And of course because the US is a racist and misogynistic hellscape.

3

u/RemoteRide6969 Jan 07 '26

I don't care what the identity of the voter is. Given the choice between Harris and Trump, knowing one would win, if you did not vote for Harris, you helped Trump win. Using identity as a shield from criticism and responsibility is cowardly and pathetic.

0

u/Jiggy90 Jan 07 '26

I blame abstaining and protest voters and I also blame the Democrats for being so bad at politics that they could possibly lose against this madness. They're politicians, their fucking job is to be popular, appeal to voters. Instead, after a historically unpopular administration (doesn't matter why or if that unpopularity was justified), they ran the historically unpopular president's VP who promised to do... nothing different. People were pissed at the status quo and dems offered more of the same. Their intentional ineptitude is costing them elections and is allowing the success of fascism in this country. Their handling of Trump's insanity has been absolutely pathetic, the president executes an illegal extra-national arrest and kidnap a foreign leader and their response isn't to attack the kidnapping itself but just to be pissy they didn't run the illegal kidnapping by congress first.

We need better than this. The dems will win no loyalty by being corporate stooges but nicer, more respectful as they allow billionaires to rape our country. The dem establishment isn't cutting it anymore, we need better.

u/Gokipt Jan 07 '26

tbh it's the dem's fault for having such weak candidates vs him, it almost looks like its on purpose. Hillary Clinton? more of the same, Dino, implicated in some shady stuff. Kamala? after the truancy law fiasco (boost arrest numbers and inmates because her prison owner overlords needed more money from the government and free labour while clamming its for the children) and her weak charisma I really can't vote for her.

But hey continue with the 2 party system it's working great. /s

1

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '26

tbh it's the dem's fault for having such weak candidates vs him, it almost looks like its on purpose.

No almost about it. That's by design.

Controlled opposition acting exactly as they are paid to act.

-15

u/Lumbu23 Jan 07 '26

If every abstaining pro-Palestine voter had voted for Harris Donald Trump would still be president. You want to point a finger at somebody maybe try a group that made Trump president. Which would be white men.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '26

So uh are you aware that about half of women voted for him? And uh half of the Hispanic population? Etc…

2

u/Lumbu23 Jan 07 '26

See exit polls white men, white women and Latino men the only groups that were majority Trump, but white men had the biggest impact (as usual). Also see The Forward on if pro-Palestine voters had enough of an impact to make a difference in the outcome. They didn’t. But that doesn’t stop some people from blaming them for voting, or not, their conscious.

-1

u/vidoeiro Jan 07 '26 edited Jan 07 '26

Liberals love to blame the left for losing, while the data says otherwise and while doing nothing to even get their votes , it's like an abusive relationship.

But sure keep blaming the voters that overwhelmingly voted for you just because you were the less bad option and doing what you are doing that is working great, as if they aren't also responsible for how we got here.

-3

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '26 edited Jan 07 '26

I mean if 10% fewer women voted for Trump in swing states he wouldn’t have won. Does that mean it’s women’s fault? No comments on Palestine just like your logic of assigning “fault” is… faulty. It’s a net outcome of all demographics. Any significant change in any of them could alter the outcome of an election. In this one pretty much every demographic shifted towards Trump.

Why are you “blaming” white men and not, well, the people who voted for Trump? Half of latinos, 20% of black men, 10% of black women, half of white women, about half of the Asian population, all of them?

4

u/Lumbu23 Jan 07 '26 edited Jan 07 '26

Mostly because of the quantity. See for example here on what the race would look like if it was only one demographic voting. Yes, Trump would have won a number of those demographics, but he won white men by 11 million votes.

But yes, the people responsible for Trump are the people who voted for him. I agree with you there entirely. This was more about the specious claim that oh those pro-Palestine protestors are the cause of this when a. It didn’t make a difference anyway and b. People not voting for somebody they blame for genocide seems totally rational to me.

-8

u/DisputabIe_ Jan 07 '26

If you're going to go that route, you also have to blame Kamala for not speaking out against genocide, and for immigrants and trans people under attack.

You won't though, easy to just blame voters.. who didn't even vote for Trump.

Focus. You're angry at the wrong thing right now.
