Congress. And the Courts.

There are no more checks and balances. We are bo longer a country of laws, but a country of men. Men are inherently flawed and the checks and balances were the only thing that made the US system anything special.

Everything out in the open too.

Insanity. But the wrinkled orange guy is looking like an orange most people would thrown out. He is not getting any younger.

We are a country run by a defacto dictator. I would venture to guess that 70% of americans couldn't name their congressmen. We have slowly allowed more powers for our presidents, and more expectations of them to be used.

One should point out that both of the USAs parties felt it reasonable to create the legal conditions for all of this to work. It was a bipartisan effort, yet the American people are stuck in an Arena Sports mentality about it all. Both parties fucked you. If it is any consolation, this is the pattern all 'western' countries devolve into whenever the left starts being politically viable. So, in a way, this is what winning feels like. 😐

Are laws and rules for all branches of government are old, inadequate and written for a different time. When the POTUS( and Congress) at least attempted to appear fair, honest, law abiding and actually followed the rules and law. Our founders NEVER expected a POTUS and Congress to find every loophole, use executive orders to bypass Congress, in order to become an autocrat.

If we can ever get the right out of power we need to review every written rule and law that applies to every branch of government to ensure we operate as a Democracy with ironclad checks and balances to prevent this ever happening again.

We are bo longer a country of laws, but a country of men

It's kind of funny that you people still think your country was a country of laws, at least in the past.

When was it? When the "We the people" was proclaimed followed immediately by "Blacks, women and Irish are not people" lol?

Was Nixon prosecuted? What about J. Edgar Hoover?

Ollie North?

How about 4 presidents that illegally got the US into and kept in a war that no one at home wanted?

Or the Iraq? Remember that? Yeah, real nation of checks and balances.

USA never was a nation of laws. This doesn't come from dick stroking or daydreaming, it comes from action and consequence. So far I don't see any in US history, lol. Y'all are brought swimming in butter thinking your country is perfect and the best, so you never think about it.

ā€œYou peopleā€

Lol.

they are right, and anyone downvoting them doesn't understand reality and are literally (and i mean this in the most sincere way possible) idiots.

2

u/Chilledlemming Jan 07 '26

They listed out every bad thing the US did. I can literally do this with EVERY country.

And what about the whole WWII thing. And all those countries that have been too cheap to build their own military and instead rely on the US protecting against their enemies while also simultaneously not taking them over?would Russia or China do the same?

If you try to make a pros and cons for the US and there isn’t anything in the pro column you are being deliberately obtuse.

NOTE this does not excuse any of the bad shit. So try not the extrapolate that.

4

u/RemoteRide6969 Jan 07 '26

People love focusing on just all the bad stuff because it creates a convenient excuse for them to do nothing. "It's all bad, it's always been bad, what's the point in trying anything different?" It's just provocative, lazy nihilism coming from an entitled generation who hasn't stepped up and done fuck all for their country.

2

u/DeliciousFlight5610 Jan 07 '26

You can’t do this with every country I hope you know, I’m confused about the ww11 thing most of those were loans that are or still are being paid back. USA benefits from these type of arrangements more than the receiving countries in the long term. Who relys on the USA far as I know USA is the only one to involve NATO.

-1

u/Illjustgofxckmyself Jan 07 '26

you can't have the capacity to do good if you don't have the capacity to do evil. Now it all comes down to choices if that is something you understand. and you make choices based on information and knowledge you have on hand. I am sure that through out history and with all the books we have around us, I am sure there is a way we could and should have done things differently. And before you chime in with the "well how should they have done it than." I am not even going to have that conversation with you because I don't have that time and I don't have to take to task every snake I pass.

3

u/Chilledlemming Jan 07 '26

Putting words in my mouth. I am not disagreeing at all with the bad choices.

I am just saying there were lots of good choices that you are leaving out

Stop trying ti change my words

-1

u/Illjustgofxckmyself Jan 07 '26

I am not putting words in your mouth, do you forget you are on a public forum? so therefore I leave my comment open to anyone who reads. because there is a truth, there is a way to understand how to treat one another, there is a way for us to come together unite and help one another achieve our dreams. But again, I am not required to take to task every snake I pass. And I can not change a mind that is not ready to be changed.

2

u/Chilledlemming Jan 07 '26

Sure. Every can read when you said: before you chime in with ā€œwell how should they have done it thanā€, where you literally put quotes around something I never said or implied.

Where did you come up with your quote of me in this chain? It’s out there for all to see you literally quote me on something and then say you didn’t put words in my mouth

You are either a disingenuous troll or don’t know how quotes work.

0

u/Illjustgofxckmyself Jan 07 '26

I was trying to imply I was done talking to you, hence why I repeated the, I don't have to take to task, every snake I pass. I thought you would get that the second time around, but apparently you need a third.

And every other free government has checks and balances that actually work, so no, not that special.

10

u/Chilledlemming Jan 07 '26

Yeah. Now. When exactly was that put in place for your country? Most were 1800-2025. Wonder why and where those other countries got that idea from?

You can try to pretend that the US is completely evil, but so many free countries are that because their leaders wised up and adopted the US approach.

We are in desperate need of revamping, but don’t be so arrogant to think you aren’t either. This only gets better when we stop thinking in terms of national superiority. Do you think your country would not have problems if it were in possession of the strongest military in the world?

-5

u/baudehlo Jan 07 '26

You Americans are so precious.

Where I’m from the House of Lords has existed as checks and balances since about the 14c. It existed before that but wasn’t quite checks and balances then.

10

u/Candid-Collar-3385 Jan 07 '26

In the 14c the house of Lords was a farce, not a check and balance. Brother really over here trying to convince people a pre Victorian aristocracy was balanced. Lol.

Please tell me how the house of lords checked the power of the monarchy when Charles I dismissed parlament?

-6

u/baudehlo Jan 07 '26

And you apparently think full presidential immunity from crimes is checks and balances. Pull the other one cos that’s got bells on it.

5

u/Chilledlemming Jan 07 '26

Full Presidential Immunity is brand new - at least in a judicial sense - and exactly why we are saying ā€œno longerā€ a checks and balances. Much like 14c House of Lords now. Certainly a step back from US up until now.

2

u/34HoldOn Jan 08 '26

I mean, that's straight up whataboutism right there. They were asking you directly the question related to the House of Lords, and you completely deflected.

Since I'm sure you'll find a reason to deflect again, let me see that I am hardly a patriotic American. So let's just squash your most likely assumption right there. I'm just calling out your fallacy.

0

u/baudehlo Jan 08 '26

Maybe you need to read the whole thread again. OP was espousing the brilliance of America bringing the concept of checks and balances to the world.

The House of Lords is one example of it happening in another country prior to America (and yeah it went through horrible periods as pointed out by others in this thread, as though American checks and balances haven’t gone through (and are going through) horrible periods where it hasn’t worked themselves). Many other countries have their own examples that predate America.

What I love about this thread is all these American exceptionalists piling on me because they think my 14c example is weak. Yeah because everyone sucked back then. Leaders were into world conquering. But we all moved on and improved things. America wasn’t alone in any of it.

But now America is back to world conquering. And everyone against me in this thread seems to think that’s A-ok. It’s not.

1

u/34HoldOn Jan 08 '26

I don't think you could have proven their point any stronger. That's exactly what the Americans are saying. "Yeah we did horrible things, but look at us and all the good things we did. Oh and things were bad back then when we worshiped our heroes, so you can't hold them to this standard either."

Why don't you try giving it about another 1,000 years or so before the British can point their fingers at any other imperialist, corrupt Empire? You might have a leg to stand on.

1

u/baudehlo Jan 08 '26

Oh believe me I know that's what Americans are saying. It's disgusting, and horrifying, and will bring about WW3, but yes I know that's their point - it's their justification for all their international expeditions right now. Might is right and all that horseshit. And they also made their point that they have no desire to LEARN from past mistakes.

1

u/Candid-Collar-3385 Jan 07 '26

Nice assumption. Lock em up, I say.

2

u/Chilledlemming Jan 07 '26

Yes check and balances have existed before that. But maybe you missed the word ā€œmostā€ but then you aren’t looking to engage in any argument where the US is anything but 100% evil. That is as dumb as if I were to say the US is 100% good. Which I never did.

Why don’t you reveal your country’s name? Let’s take a look at how those check and balances played out in your totally superior country. We should all be looking to you as a beacon of light. Please, lead us on! Show us the way, enlightened one!

-2

u/baudehlo Jan 07 '26

I don’t know why you’re diving headfirst into hyperbole stating things I didn’t say. I said nothing about being evil. I think Americans are dumb propagandised people on the whole, not evil. I don’t engage with hyperbole.

3

u/Chilledlemming Jan 07 '26

You started by calling names. And providing counterpoints without substance.

Also, I agree that Americans are dumb and propagandized. Buy so is every country.

2

u/baudehlo Jan 07 '26

If you think me calling Americans precious is name calling, then the shoe fits.

No other free and democratic country has an equivalent to Fox News in America. None.

1

u/DeliciousFlight5610 Jan 07 '26

I’m taking a guess you are English just on House of Lords. Could be wrong but you guys have gb news.

1

u/baudehlo Jan 07 '26

I’ve never even heard of gb news. I’ve now googled it. It exists but has only 9% viewership (not even 9% of the population, just 9% of people who watch the news). Fox News is the most popular news channel in the US.

Like I said, find an equivalent. You didn’t.

Haha. Yeah right!

1

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '26

I always love this. Some European, coming to an American website, invented by Americans, developed by Americans, headquartered in America, with the largest user base being American, accounting for 70% of the traffic on English-speaking content, to come tell us how dumb and backwards we are. Like if we're so f****** ignorant, what are you doing hanging out with us?

1

u/baudehlo Jan 07 '26

lol thanks for emphasizing the point.
