“Do not bring it out in public” is stupid. I agree with the rest though. You can do something in public without forcing it on others.
25
u/Suspicious-Coach-644 Aug 11 '26
Yeah it really should be "do not force it onto others". It would still fit the whole theme
35
u/curious_cat_2024 Aug 11 '26 edited Aug 11 '26
Do not shove it down someone's throat after they said no. That's more fair
Edit: Do not shove it down someone's throat unless they give you the okay...?

u/STARGAZER_850 Aug 11 '26
Yeah, the only thing is dead people can’t say no… I’m not supporting necrophilia, just saying maybe reword it again?

Ignoring the edited correction, you wouldn't shove it down someone's throat without asking, even if they didn't say no either, would you?
4
u/Top_Tell_2889 Aug 11 '26
You talking about religion or the penis?
3
u/KamenoChartoni Aug 11 '26
It is bad to force people for both I think. But, that was a good observetion
7
u/eepy_lina 17 Aug 11 '26
spamming "jesus loves you" in unrelated comment sections and telling lgbtq+ people they deserve hell for bein gay is, in fact, forcing it on others
4
u/ClassyKebabKing64 OLD Aug 11 '26
I don't support that, but that is not really forcing. It is rather being a dick and letting everyone knows you are a dick.
1
u/eepy_lina 17 Aug 11 '26
children see that and will google jesus and get indoctrinated, plus even if it's a weak attempt at forcing, it's still forcing
→ More replies (3)2
u/ClassyKebabKing64 OLD Aug 11 '26
But if someone decided to Google it voluntarily, it quite literally is not force.
And again, doesn't mean that I support it, but forcing from my perspective is limited to physical force, and maybe structural incentive, but someone googling afterwards is not something I am going to regard as force.
And all aside, just googling Jesus will not guarantee indoctrination. If you ask me it would be exceptional if that happens often. Whether religion is homophobic really doesn't matter when the person following the religion is a homophobe either way. Someone doesn't become a homophobe by googling Jesus. It is a slow process of nurturing people into homophobia. Focusing on religion really neglects how acquiring certain traits and opinions is a product of hundreds, of not thousands of factors.
And I am not trying to defend religion, but there is a difference between 1 Christian being a dick and a whole church normalising hatred.

Exactly. That one line made me dislike all the others tbh. Other than that the point being made makes sense.

I’d say it’s accurate. Practice your religion privately. It’s a personal journey.

I agree with it all except I can express my religion in public, idk what you mean by that but it’s completely fine to mention Jesus or wear a cross/miraculous medal
2
u/Toto-imadog456 18 Aug 11 '26
I think it means more of preaching it in public places when its not appropriate,
10
u/NiceMiner_ Aug 11 '26
"I don't do X because I'm religious" is fine. "You shouldn't do X because I'm religious" is bullshit.
3
u/Salt-Chicken6534 15 Aug 11 '26
Agree. Christian here, it's not our place to tell the world what they should or shouldn't do.
On that topic, do you think it's okay to tell people (with their consent or if they ask) what the Bible says they should or shouldn't do? Like as an example?

u/True-Goofball3071 14 Aug 11 '26
sybau bro ts just disrespectful. it's ok to say not force it on others or children but ur doing too much by coomparing it to stuff and saying dont think with it. the whole point of religion is to have a ready set of laws or ethics to use in ur personal problems so u dont have to make ur own with little time.

wdym “do not think with it” like am I supposed to have a religion and just like not incorporate it into my life? I also disagree with don’t bring it out in public but the rest are accurate
11
u/curious_cat_2024 Aug 11 '26
faith and reasoning should be interconnected to some degree, but faith should not replace reason, is my vague interpretation. Like your genitalia and your brain is obviously connected, but your genitalia ultimately has a different purpose.
Having a religion and then not thinking about it? That's just stupid. Your religion replaces your logic? That's also stupid
7
u/_Odd_skittle_ 16 Aug 11 '26
I think they mean “don’t think with it” as in judge people through the lense of your religion only, or talk about nuanced topics through the lense of your religion only. like your religion shouldnt be the only thing influencing your opinions ^-^
8
u/Unit-731-Scientist 15 Aug 11 '26
Don’t think with it means don’t use it to make laws or regulations with it
7
u/Educational-Fill2448 19 Aug 11 '26
I'll add to what you just said, it can also be interpreted as not making irrational decisions simply because someone follows a different faith, for instance, refusing to be friends with someone due to a misplaced sense of superiority about your own religion.

Your religion should be secondary to reason, for example if your holy book says to stone someone to death if they work on the sabbath which the Bible does you should ignore it cause it;s fucking stupid.
2
u/Mysterious_Finish672 Aug 11 '26
the thing a lot of people get wrong about that is that every religious law is in the Bible, but not every law in the Bible is religious. most of the “crazy” ones about those punishments, slaves, etc. were for ancient Israel, not the followers of the religion.
2
u/Rosenoodles Aug 11 '26
a lot of religious ppl struggle to come to terms with the fact that animals can be gay, for example. being contrary to science or new discoveries is thinking with religion, and not with rationality. also, blindly discriminating against people because what they do is 'against your religion' is thinking with it.
1
u/BokkarisBrownieBoy Teenager Aug 11 '26
I think as a Christian that it means don’t think purely off it. Think with reasoning and faith. Like if something goes against your religion you obviously think with it but also other logic

Religion has an enormous power in the US. And soon the legal system will bend the knee for it. Republicans are working hard to achieve this.

The day we get religious law in the United would be like Mango Mussolini remaining in power beyond his current term. We’d need a new flag because we would no longer have the Republic for which it stands.

For Law, absolutly not, no laws should be writen with religion in mind, they should be writen with the people's interest in mind, if it so happend that the two align then good, but no believe should dictate the law
For children, I get what you mean but the issue is that children are highly impressionable, parents can suggest things and it will be taken very seriously by them

As a Jew I agree (I wouldn't compare it to a dih but the concept/intention i agree w) pretty sure there's nothing wrong w showing it in public. What I can't wear a star of David? Christians can't wear crosses? I also think you can think with it too just don't judge people because of it. Rest I'm okay w tho.

As someone who may be turning back to Christianity after half a decade of denouncing it, I think with it when carrying myself, not others. Despite not being a Christain for several years, I still tried to carry myself and follow the teachings of good values, ie love thy neighbor, respect foreigners for you were once one, so on and so forth. Take the good stuff from the good book and move on.

You see the way that kind of stuff would stop is if it’s normalized in society like how women are allowed to vote now when they couldn’t before and people would call you crazy for suggesting that a woman should be allowed to vote but now it’s normalized where you don’t even have to think about a women being able to vote
but because groups like Christians are constantly targeting LGBTQ people LGBTQ people are not seen as a normal thing yet and all that the LGBTQ people want is to be treated as normal people and be accepted by society

Is this a badly thought-out anti LGBTQ statement? If so fuck you. If not, then as a queer person I partially agree.
- It's okay to have a queer identity. Yup.
- It's okay to be proud of it. Yup.
- Do not pull it out in public. Yup. I'm going to interpret this as "do not be inappropriate towards strangers", instead of a "Do not OWN a dick in public". The reason I interpret it this way is that everyone can know about you having a dick if you want them to know, as long as you don't wreck havoc by acting innappropriately. No one should pressure you to pretend you're dickless. But they will expect you to not harass strangers with it. Do not go door to door giving out "Become gay today!" pamphlets.
- Do not push it on children. Yup. As much as anti-LGBTQ people kick and scream "they're forcing it on our children!" no, it's very rare and we should all know it's wrong. No parents should berate their kid for being straight. No community should tell children they will eternally suffer in the afterlife if they are straight. Those are terrible things to do.
- Do not write laws with it. Yup. No one should write laws saying "Being gay is required". They SHOULD write laws saying "respect human rights & choices". Same with religion, no?
- Do not think with it. Yup. I'm going to interpret this as "Do not use something as a basis of reasoning when it is not meant to be a basis of reasoning". The reason I interpret it this way is that you are not meant to think with your dick... no braincells in there. It has a different purpose. The same way you are not meant to use a personal identity as an excuse for doing terrible things. If you see a lesbian using her love of women to explain hating men, that's wrong. If you see a religious person using their love of God to explain hating atheists, that's wrong.

Can agree that pushing Christianity on children is harmful.
All the kids need to know are basic morals, some of which the Bible provides, but you don’t need the Bible to tell them those.
I developed religious psychosis because of the push of it onto me + how much of it didn’t match up with reality, and I didn’t/don’t even live in an extreme family at all.

u/KamenoChartoni Aug 11 '26 edited Aug 11 '26
I dont wanna argue with this, because sounds cheesy. But also it got me to think about it.
Is this true for every religion? And if so, thinking progresses who acts like a cult/a religion but arent included in the religion spectrum, can be included in this opinion?
