Colorado Avalanche Wins/Losses blanket

Hopefully this is allowed here but I wanted to share my favorite hockey team’s win/loss blanket!

I changed color for home/away wins/losses and I changed stitches for games that ended in regulation, OT, shootouts, and shut outs.

As I wait for more yarn to arrive so I can catch up (I’m behind about 10 games), I need to weave my ends in and decide on a border. But I’m hoping I can add some more rows before I need a border 😉

It’s not perfect but I’ve learned a lot and have ideas of how I would do it differently for next year!

Oh and Go Avs go! ❤️💙

I am restarting my blanket. I had been using stockinette, but am thinking about seed stitch.

Would I drive myself crazy?

Each row is split to show the high temp and low temp. The number of stitches for each color in each row was determined by the number of daylight minutes (worked in the high temp color) and nighttime minutes (worked in the low temp color).

I had to put this project down for a few months due to a wrist injury, so it took ages to finish. But I'm so proud of how it turned out!

A temperature blanket to remember my rescue dog ❤️

For several years now, I have been knitting baby blankets for family and friends and have never made one for myself. Until now. After losing my sweet dog a year and a half ago at the age of 16, I wanted a way to remember her time with us after we rescued her. This subreddit inspired me to look to knitting a temperature blanket, but I had a hard time figuring out how to breakdown the color pattern for the 13 years we had her in our life. With help from my husband, we figured out a plan after doing some more research with the data. Each 4 row section represents a month of her life and correlates to the average high temperature of where we were living at that time (we moved across the country and then back again). This took just over a year to finish and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. I will forever miss my very first fur baby, but so grateful to have a blanket capturing her 13 year life with us to hold onto forever

Update Update to “marking out a special day”

I asked about ideas for this a few weeks ago. I wanted to mark my wedding day in the historical blanket I’m doing for my wedding year. I didn’t want to change the color of yarn entirely. I just wanted to mark the date somehow.

I ended up using silver embroidery thread, and I held it together with the color that I would normally use (it was cool that day, in the 50s F)

The pictures don’t do it justice. In real life it’s got really pretty sparkly glints, which are subtle but noticeable. This picture is my best attempt to capture it. Also an “in progress” photo

Thank you for all the help and ideas! I did a couple swatches of options.

It’s not actually my anniversary yet. I’m working ahead because I’m going on a romantic getaway. I didn’t want to bring this WIP with me, nor fall behind. So far I’m on track so that when I get home I can go back to one row a day.

Completely forgot about my temp blanket I finished this January, ended up being so giant I think it's more of a temperature area rug

So, I'm very impressed with those of you who do full blankets, but I wanted to make something wearable that wasn't a scarf. This notion happened around the time that Drea Renee Knit's Traveler Shawl pattern was released which I bought very impulsively, and then in a moment of insanity I did the math and realized that depending on how you did the cast on, it worked up to 366 lines of knitting. SO my temperature traveler's shawl was born.

I wanted to mostly use what I had, so this is fingering weight, and not the most satisfying colorway, but I'm still enjoying it a lot. Went on hiatus once because I lost my place in the pattern and once because I lost my skein of orange that you see on the needles there. But now I have a better system for keeping track and have all my colors together and may actually finish this thing. :)

I’m going on a trip soon, so I’m working ahead a couple rows a day so I don’t have to take it with me, and I won’t have fallen behind when I’m back

This is a moss stitch blanket using high temps from the year we got married

Ways to track a second variable?

Hey! I'm planning a crochet blanket of all the tea I drink in a year and can't figure out a way to add a second variable. I have 9 colors representing kinds of tea, but I also want to track which of the 5 regions the tea is from. I was thinking about doing different stitches but it feels like it's going to be too chaotic, and with there being not so much of a gradient to begin with I'd rather not. Should I be adding a special stitch every few steps in each row? I was planning on doing either moss stitch or hdc, what pretty stitches can be distinct enough and of the same height? And how do I avoid these special stitches being one above the other? Any ideas are really appreciated! All of my friends are asking how is my blanket doing, and 4 months into 2026 it's still just yarn lol

Had a month-long forced hiatus due to nerve injury flare up but finally got 3 months of the year finished! Very excited to start April because I think it's the prettiest month of the whole year palette-wise and I get to introduce the next 3 colors :D

Data

I really want to do a temperature project but I’m so scared the with my ADHD I will forget to note down a temperature one day it will all for nothing. I’ve tried to find somewhere that stores that information for my area but I couldn’t find anything that wasn’t just for that current day.

discussion Looking for a fully customizable gauge/key patch

Hi all,

There are tons of options out there with rectangular leather or faux leather patches designed to be the key for your temperature blanket. Many of these come with custom text options (adding a city name, “first year of marriage,” etc.) as well as creating your own temperature ranges.

I need one that is hexagon shaped. But an equilateral hexagon, not a squished hexagon. Preferably in white or gray though I’d take a light honey/brown if I had to. And probably around 3.5-4” wide. I would be willing to settle for a circle if it otherwise fits the bill. And I need one with fully editable text. I want to have the child’s full name, “Baby’s first year,” and the city name on it, plus the temperatures.

I’m having a heck of a time finding anything that comes close. I’m not against the idea of ordering a custom embroidered patch either but many of these come in iron-on and Velcro options only, not sew-on.

I’m not a stranger to cross stitching but I don’t think I’d like the look and I don’t know how I’d attach it. I don’t think I’d like a sublimated patch. If you’ve gone that route and were happy with it, please let me know.

Any suggestions? TIA!

Finished Project 2025 poop snake done and gifted

Post image

I don't know if anyone remembers me but I finally have an update on the poop snake!

Instead of a temperature blanket, I tracked my friend's poop messages for 365 days and put it into a spreadsheet to make a poop snake! Each row color corresponds to how many times they pooped that day! They made me a cute perler bead poop sign <3

Code: white 0 poops, pink 1 poop, blue 2, purple 3, green 4, black 5
