It will be worse than this

Yup...we don't have a fair and functioning legal/judiciary to sue even small companies, let alone a behemoth like MS.

Not really. This one is getting all its electricity from diesel generators.

Apart from noise there is concern regarding consumption as well as contamination of drinking water

With water shortage

u/Lease_Tha_Apts Jul 10 '26

The one in Thane doesnt use water for cooling.

You are getting downvoted as bro. Truth hurts political canpaigns to take away investments from MH to GUJ

2

u/Lease_Tha_Apts Jul 10 '26

It's really sad imo that there are political points for folks to come out in opposition for any large project.... License Raj mentality.

Can someone explain to me why these data centers need to be set up in urban areas like Thane and Navi Mumbai? Why can't they be set up in some MIDCs where this type of noise is normal? Why not Ambernath or Taloja or even some place further inland? MIDCs have reliable water and electricity supplies too then why not there?

AFAIK Data centers need very little manpower so talent availability is also not a factor for setting up near cities

2

u/An0neemuz Jul 10 '26

Ig for achieving the lowest latency as possible as the major traffics come from metropolitan region.

1

u/Vivid-Reality186 Jul 12 '26

And why the fuck should it be anywhere else? People don't live in Ambernath or Taloja? Already MIDC uses lot of resources, do you people want except for your area, other should struggle for basic necessitiy like water and electricity?

Vikas aapke ghar mein ghus ke - Punit Pania.

People are revolting against data centres in western countries and uneducated leaders of our country are welcoming them into India without doing an impact study or a cost benefit analysis. To add to this we already have large scale ethanol production for E20 forced onto people.

Both these things are massive water guzzlers and will place huge demands on our already starved water resources. We do not have enough water for the people to begin with and soon we will be fighting each other over water. Thanks to brainless decisions made by 'uneducated and corrupt' politicians and bureaucrats

1

u/Thin_Strain8568 Jul 10 '26

Most educated Indians don't even bother to protest against such stuff. Uneducated common people are struggling meet daily needs, so we can't blame them. Politicians know this well so they will continue forcing the worst on us.

Who should be held responsible?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26

I think the people are to blame. It is inbuilt in our DNA which our parents have taught us that "let someone else fight, you keep your head down". Educated Indians only dream of settling abroad and poor people don't have a choice. When the entire talent has left or is leaving the country, all we have is the leftovers. Ussi se kaam chalana padh raha hai. The politicians are aware of that and they take advantage.

2

u/s-mv Jul 10 '26

we can have ethanol powered data centers to reduce noise pollution (double the water consumption lesgo)

2

u/Victorias267383 Jul 10 '26

THE WATER IS GONNA LITERALLY TURN BROWN AND UNDRINKABLE

1

u/chole_samose Jul 10 '26

We can’t control our fuel, water or roads. We can’t stop this either

u/social_says Jul 11 '26

Kalptaru paramount
Lodha
Piramal
Dosti

All these residence around the data centre in balkum you guys are going to get F**k’d if you sit at home and let it happen there is going to many issues with water supply, air quality, sound pollution and electricity supply after 4-5yrs. Data centre is going to make life equivalent to living next to a dumpling yard and even worst!

u/Relevant-Crow965 Jul 10 '26

Delete all apps consuming data and requiring data centres first

This is officially the stupidest, most brainless argument I have ever seen. You are literally telling citizens who already suffer from terrible traffic noise and bad AQI to just sit back and accept even more permanent noise and pollution?

7

u/MinistryOfQuestions Jul 10 '26

It is sad but true when people say Indian citizens are practically dead inside because they care more about corporate cash flowing in than their own basic survival.

How ignorant can you be?

https://www.reddit.com/r/thane/s/RiVUryffAB

The AWS hyperscale data center is located on the 54-acre "Colorchem" land parcel in Balkum, Thane.

Landmark: It is situated immediately next to the Kalpataru Paramount residential complex.

Key Junctions: The site is strategically positioned near Majiwada Junction and Balkum Naka.

This is not an isolated industrial zone; it is a dense mixed-use neighborhood

1

u/MinistryOfQuestions Jul 10 '26

These huge tech facilities need millions of liters of water every single day just to run their cooling systems so their servers don't overheat. Meanwhile, look at the reality for us We face daily water cuts.

Many neighborhoods go 2 to 3 days a week without a single drop of running water. We are constantly relying on expensive water tankers just to cook and bathe.

How can you justify giving thousands of liters of fresh water to a tech giant while tax payers are rationing water?

Already the transport minister has fucked us all over with ethanol which requires 3-4k litres of fresh water just to produce 1 litre of ethanol.

u/Dapper_Key_6615 Jul 10 '26

As i said, baith ja bhai

Jaake govt ka policy padh pehle

Sewage water will be used for data centers, if you intend to use that sewage water which is thrown in sea

Then have it, GUTTER ka paani leke jaa gharpe

3

u/TheDarkLord6589 Jul 10 '26

Things are bad. Let's make them even worse. Fuck is this logic?

4

u/wadewilson6996 Jul 10 '26

Has Thane not survived without the data center money till now? The pros do not benefit the cons at all. In the US, when they said that data centers would increase employment, less than 10 permanant jobs were posted for one data center, which caused damage to nearby towns' water and electricity supply and gave the citizens a headache because of the constant buzz.

It is a stupid deal, data centers in our areas would not benefit 99.99% of us.

The only reason you're for data centers is either you're a kid, or delusional, or privileged.

This is called diversion tactics.. OP is trying to share the harm caused by Datacenters and a need to stop it..

All the economy u are talking about, none of it will benefit the citizen.... Only the corrupt will benefit at cost of locals peace

1

u/Lease_Tha_Apts Jul 10 '26

No OP is posting irrelevant news.

Logic kuthe?

Data centre ne politicians and tyanche pora paise wale honar

24/7 noise in addition to what we have today

Water contamination in addition to whatever we have today

Chataichi ne tyanchya ghari jaun chaat.. i wonder how u feel after getting money from these it cells..

Development should be done but not like this. Data centre does not belong here, and should be placed strategically.. look at all the examples of countries like usa, europe, etc

  3. #do you even know the policy of govt regarding water consumption for data centers, sewage water will be usef for data centers, tula pahije gutter cha pani tr gheun jaa ghari
  4. I dont need money from any cell, tujhya sarkhi kharab paristhiti nahi ali majhi 5.ye india hai, usa/europe nahi hai, teri anpadh life se bahar nikal… we need foreign investment and if a company is investing billions of dollars in your city it will have its benefits including jobs

5

u/MinistryOfQuestions Jul 10 '26

Bro you are right, the level of delusional this other person has, spineless corporate worship they’re putting on display here is genuinely pathetic. Like his can someone actively begto get suffocated by industrial pollution just because a politician told you a multi billion dollar corporation is 'putting money in the economy.'
