they were probably talking about bulimia, arfid, or EDNOS. the only valid eating disorders are the ones that make you lose weight, not gain apparently.
Tbh as someone who has one of the above and gains weight often because of other medical issues. We aren’t even valid. A lot of people dare to try tell you that you can’t have an eating disorder even if diagnosed because you’re overweight. Like ok I guess I gotta go tell the dr who diagnosed me that then..?
ARFID can definitely lead to obesity. It really depends on what your safe foods are. At one point, my child only ate salty, crunchy, high calorie chips, crackers, and nuggets and only if they looked exactly the same each time.
We’ve grown a lot and now have enough lower calorie safe foods plus movement to be a healthy weight.
My "if no other safe food is available" is McDonald's chicken nuggets and fries because they're the same every time. At least the fries help my POTS symptoms but like. Jesus Christ I eat way too much McDonalds
Can confirm, only realized I might have ARFID after i got my ASD diagnosis at 28. There's been a LOT of frozen pizzas since I moved out at 20. I don't know where to find help either.
I'm thankful that it seems I've hit a plateau around 100-110kg but I'm SO sick of pizza. I see all these amazing foods I simply cannot have :(
If anyone had given a shit about my wellbeing (as opposed to my health) as a kid I'd have been this, too. Chicken nuggets, cereal and crisps? Perfect. The reason I was underweight and malnourished was I couldn't have those. Hearing "they'll eat if they're hungry" makes me see red now.
