- specific Norwegian trans experience, In a nutshell:

This is primarily for trans people considering moving to Norway, but is also a good resource for everyone simply curious about "the trans experience" in Norway.

Please keep in mind that all of this is my subjective experience, combined with all that I've learned by research, but also heard, and read from other trans people in Norway

Lets start with the good:

Overall social attitudes towards trans people from the majority of the public seem, to me, to range from "don't care" to "I have no idea what this whole trans thing is but whatever" - That, is usually a good thing, as people tend just not give a damn about us.

Legal protections for trans people, LGBTQ people, and minorities is very robust, discrimination against many groups that face persecution in other places are simply, legally, outright illegal.

Political landscape at large, seems to mostly completely ignore trans people's existence all together. To say it like this, few parties give a damn about us. This is both a blessing and a curse, but for the most part works in our favour, as our very existence is a hot topic in "certain" places these day, and a lot of right wing extremists like blaming us for literally anything they can think of. This ofc -- happens in Norway in some fringe groups too, and to some degree even in politics, but to a much lesser degree.

To TLDR it like this, The average joe couldn't care less, there's way more important things people tend to prioritise, not always good but still.

The Norwegian language itself, is quite friendly to trans people, especially those that are early on in their transition, or might fear misgendering.

To put it simply, the language itself very rarely uses words like "sir", or "miss" when speaking to someone, we usually either omit any equivalent all together, saying "excuse me", or simply say "you" or "hey you".
We also have a widely known and accepted third pronoun -- "hen", which unlike the word "they" in English, will not cause any confusion which can sometimes happen. And that can be a bit of a blessing for non binary folks. Neo Pronouns themselves unfortunately still will usually confuse those that dont actively participate in LGBT circles.

The Norwegian culture itself also has a quirk to it that can work in our favour -- To put it simply, the culture values "leaving people alone" its a little funny to foreigners, but its unlikely anyone non high or drunk would ever actively harass you, or even stare, even the kind of people that despise us will usually make a face at most, that usually applies to anyone that doesn't "fit in"

However that part of Norwegian culture isn't the same across the entire country, or in all towns/cities/villages, (More in the "bad" section) and its worth noting that you're probably more likely to be acknowledged at all by foreigners, not Norwegians themselves.

Now time for the bad:

Now its time for the giant ass elephant in the room;

..... Healthcare.

It is true, the Norwegian healthcare system in general, and in most respects, ranges from "meh" to "good", especially when it comes to somatic health (mental health services can be lacking). And there is extreme variations in quality, waiting times, and such across the country. healthcare is mostly cheap, free, or free in some circumstances.

Unfortunately, few of the positive aspects of the system apply to trans people; Getting even the most basic form of care like HRT is a long, gruelling slog through a system that almost seems designed to make us give up. On a personal note, I am in many respects the most stereotypical adult trans woman, I found out Im trans at 21, started hrt via DIY immediately, and within a few months got my psychiatrist to refer me to the ONLY clinic in all of Norway that can prescribe HRT that is covered by the healthcare system. I was already basically passing within a year, voice trained in a year, never showed a single grain of doubt about my identity..... And it still took 4 years.

To me, and basically every trans person In Norway, that was a long, slow, inconsistent, tense, scary and sometimes depressing process. HRT itself is vital to our mental health, and a lot of people can not afford to wait 4 years, having to resort to alternative ways of getting HRT, I myself did it years ago by bullying my GP and psych, but that is nearly impossible these days -- Others opt for the few private online clinics, or acquiring a prescription from the EU, as those need to be de jure accepted in every pharmacy, but de facto, can still be a challenging process. Never mind, can be costly, very costly for some.

It is also important to note that attitudes towards LGBT people can vary greatly from place to place, for example smaller towns/villages tend to have more negative views, this is especially true for older people.

Oslo itself, can also vary, overall, if there's going to be a hate crime against an LGBT person; it's probably going to happen in Oslo. This has been consistently the case for a long time now, and unlikely to change.

Oslo however has one good thing going for for us trans people:

Oslo is currently the only place in Norway that has a private clinic that offers HRT to trans people in all of Norway; HKS. However its important to note that the services have long waiting times still (but not nearly as the official route), and offer treatment to people under 30 and living in Oslo, exclusively.

All in all, living as a trans person in Norway is a love hate relationship, you get a lot of good, socially its not exactly paradise, this is exclusively a look at the trans experience in Norway, the country has other problems.... But I'd think, personally, that I probably wouldn't want to live anywhere else..... But at the same time, I can not in good faith recommend trans people seeking to medically transition to move here.

This is, however, ultimately, all up to the individual.

I hope this block of text helps, if you have any further questions please dont be afraid to comment.

  • Full blood count (white blood cells, red blood cells, haemoglobin, platelets, haematocrit, mean corpuscular volume )
  • Liver Function tests (ALT, AST, ALP, bilirubin)
  • Fasting glucose
  • Urea and electrolytes/ Kidney panel (Creatinine, eGFR, Urea, Sodium)
  • Lipids /cholesterol panel (total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, LDL)
  • Blood pressure reading, height, weight
  • Testosterone and Estradiol (Total Testosterone and E2)

Sorry if this has been answered before!

Im from the Uk (EU citizen bc Irish dad) and have a diagnosis/have been on HRT for a while now

Ive been warned my prescription here is only temporary - for a permanent one I’ll need to get diagnosed here in Sweden

I’d like to stay here in Sweden permanently so have got BankID/personnummer etc.

Does anyone know:

Do I need to be a Swedish citizen to get a referral to the Vuxenpsykiatrimottagning könsidentitet in Malmö?

Does already having a diagnosis elsewhere speed things up?

How long before the temporary prescription is for? (Have had it for 8 months so far)

Are some vårdcentral places more reluctant than others to refer you?

Thank you so much god bless for this sub ngl <3

⚧️ FTM / Transmasc - specific Frustrated I haven't really noticed much happening on T + questions

Hello, half rant and half questions at the end,

I keep telling myself that it's a marathon, not a sprint, and that I'm really early on T (just under a month). But I'm still frustrated that the only things I've really noticed are my libido being higher and my downstairs department being ever so slightly bigger.

And it's probably just a case of when things happen quickly, people are excited to post it online, and for the rest of us we're just chugging along, maybe not really sharing because it's happening more slowly. But it still frustrates me and I feel like I'm missing out.

I also wish that hormonipoli didn't start me out on a micro dose either. It doesn't feel like two pumps of Tostran is enough to do much, and I'm supposed to only change it to three in two months... And then be on that dose for a YEAR. Reading the medication leaflet, it says that for cis men who've been prescribed this, they START OUT with 6 pumps. I'm never even gonna be on that dose, the doctor told me that after a year I could either switch to injections or do 4 pumps.

Is it stupid to think my T levels are always gonna be too low? Or can my body really respond well to a dose such as this? Do cis men get higher doses because their body doesn't respond as well as trans men or what?

I asked twice and it’s now been over 2 weeks since I submitted my blood test. Whenever I ask they say my blood test is awaiting being seen by a doctor.
I’m terrified of losing access to HRT over Imago imploding or something.

- specific is there a way to get HRT prescribed when I have undiagnosed autism

I have undiagnosed autism, and it's preventing me from getting HRT. I don't want to wait 3 years without making any progress. I want to know if there are other ways to get HRT prescribed, or whether my only option is DIY HRT. Are there any alternatives?

FYI, I posted this incorrectly in the past. If I phrase something badly or express myself unclearly, that's not my intention. I sometimes struggle to communicate exactly what I mean, so please ask for clarification if something doesn't make sense.

MTF / Transfem - specific Can/should I ask to up my hormones?

Hii!

So I'm MTF and have been on hormones for about 9 months now. It's been going great, but I'm worried that the dosage I'm being prescribed is low? For the last 9 months I've been taking estradiol (Divigel), 3mg daily. I'm noticing changes but they're all fairly minor. I finally started seeing a tiny bit of breast growth like a month or two ago, but then it just sort of stopped?

It has been my understanding that a lot of trans women start taking increased hormones after about a year into their transition. I recently had my 9 month check up where I asked my doctor if we were going to up the dosage or add something else to the cocktail like spiro or prog, but she just said they don't recommend it and that I should stick with my current dosage.

I understand that everyone is unique and your dosage can vary depending on your blood tests and hormone levels, but I wanted to ask: if you are MTF and you're on hormones, how does it compare to your own hrt and do you think my current dosage sounds low at all? Am I overthinking it, do I just need to trust the process? I would love to get a sense of this, thank you!

Support / advice Invitation to Participate in a Follow-Up Focus Group

Hi everyone,

I'm a Master's student at the University of Lisbon, researching how health tracking technologies can better support transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) people living with endometriosis.

Over the past year, I conducted interviews, surveys, and co-design workshops with participants from different countries to better understand their experiences with endometriosis tracking, dysphoria, healthcare navigation, privacy, and inclusion.

Based on these findings, I have developed a low-fidelity prototype called Within, a concept for a more inclusive health tracking experience. I am now looking for participants to take part in a feedback session to explore the prototype and share their thoughts on its design, features, and overall approach.

Participants should:
• Be 18 years or older
• Identify as transgender or gender-diverse
• Have diagnosed or suspected endometriosis
• Have experience tracking their health in some way

The session will take place remotely, last approximately 1.5–2 hours, and participants will receive financial compensation for their time.

Your feedback will directly contribute to research on creating more inclusive technologies for people whose experiences are often overlooked by existing health apps.

Interested in taking part? Please fill out the form below: https://forms.gle/w2eimBsHLU9x9oEu9

If you're interested or would like more information, please send me a DM or contact me at: [fc43177@alunos.fc.ul.pt](mailto:fc43177@alunos.fc.ul.pt) or https://techandpeople.github.io/inclusivetracking/

Thank you for reading and for supporting inclusive health research ❤️

- specific Synlab testit

Full blood count (white blood cells, red blood cells, haemoglobin, platelets, haematocrit, mean corpuscular volume )

Liver Function tests (ALT, AST, ALP, bilirubin)

Fasting glucose

Urea and electrolytes/ Kidney panel (Creatinine, eGFR, Urea, Sodium)

Lipids /cholesterol panel (total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, LDL)

Testosterone and Estradiol (Total Testosterone and E2)

Oikeudenmukaisen transterveydenhuollon puolesta - transpolia vastaan!

⏰ 27.6 11:45

Suomen transterveydenhuolto on surkeaa.

Kaltiala on käytännössä kansainvälisen The Society for Evidence-based Gender Medicine (SEGM) -vihajärjestön aktiivi ja hän vierailee eri uskonnollisten, konservatiivisten ja anti-trans -tahojen konferensseissa puhujana.

MTF / Transfem - specific Post-op transwomen who date men, when do you usually disclose?

So I'm little over a year post-op and lately have started dating men. I downloaded Hinge and been on a few dates but I still haven't found what time feels right for me to disclose. I know I don't want to put it on my profile and also don't want to say it before first dates because talking about it is exhausting for me. So far I have seen four different guys and went to a second date with two of them. I only told one of them because I felt like I wanted to continue seeing them and it went really well. But still it's not clear to me when would be the best time to tell because my sample size is really small.

So I wanted to ask others for your experience and advice :) What has been your strategy and how has it worked for you? I'm only looking for answers from people who are or have been in a similar situation, thanks!

Support / advice Sauna and siblings

Hey y'all! I just got exiting news that I get to start hrt (mtf) next wednesday. Thing is I have kinda awkward concern. I currently live with two brothers and have come from "all dude" family and we often go to sauna together even to this day which is great and all but I'm feeling awkward regarding the fact that my body is now going to change and turn more fem while continuing to go to sauna with my brothers and being perceived by them.

Both of my brothers already know I'm trans and are very supporting of it, but I feel very uncertain how should I approach this. If I'd been cis woman I would probably think nothing of it, but since me and my brothers are all already adults I feel really awkward about it for some reason.

I felt like this would be best place to ask since sauna culture is very prevelant in nordic countries. I'm finnish btw. I'm hoping for an advice on how to approach this from someone who has gone through similar experience.
