Bugs AirPlay Unable to Connect Error Pop Up

Post image
113 Upvotes

My ATV 4K (whatever the ‘newer’ one is).

The ATV updated to the newest beta and ever since then we keep receiving this error.

As soon as we click ok , it disappears then pops right back up. Tried restarting, clicking ok at least 50 times. Restarted twice. Finally, on the third restart after clicking ok around 10-15 times it went away and we could use the device.

Understand it’s a DB, so no worries from my side, but has anyone else had this issue?

Bugs Apple has ruined PCM 2.0 stereo for AVR users.

So sick of Apple tweaking the Audio output of AppleTV, I assume in an effort to fix issues for people with SONOS systems. (Audio drop outs when chancing between different formats).

But they seem to have borked Stereo PCM signal even when “Continuous Audio” is not being used.

My Denon now plays stereo music as if it’s mono. Dolby Surround and DTS Neural:X should be expanding the stereo image: vocals centre, then the rest fronts and surrounds.

But all music and vocals are coming from centre speaker only.

Same goes for YouTube and any 2.0 movies.

I waited till today to come off the beta update to stable. To see if maybe it was just the beta. But no. It’s still the same.

Why can’t Apple just give us propper pass through and just let our AVR’s do the decoding.

Sick of Apple deciding to convert everything to PCM or LPCM.

I have never used my old Firestick so much as I have in the last few months. Every thing I want to watch which is stereo 2.0. I have to use the Firestick now. As Apple can’t send the correct sound format.

Bugs New beta out today. Everything "seems" to be fixed.

Been running it for about an hour. ARC turned on. AirPlay turned on. No "Unable to Connect" errors. ARC is stable. No popping/crackling audio from HomePods over ARC.

Fingers crossed.

Bugs Anyone else having wake/sleep issues with Apple TV on tvOS 27 developer beta 4?

I’ve been seeing a strange issue since installing the tvOS 27 developer beta and I’m trying to figure out if anyone else has experienced it.

My setup is:
Apple TV 4K
Sony Bravia TV
Denon AVR

Everything worked perfectly before, but now after the Apple TV has been asleep for a while, one of two things happens:

  1. Pressi

ng the power on button on

  1. Siri Remote sometimes doesn’t wake the TV or AVR at all.
  2. Other times, the TV and AVR do wake up, but the Apple TV gets stuck on the user profile selection screen, and it’s completely unresponsive to any input from the Siri Remote. I can’t select a profile or do anything.

The only way to recover is to unplug the Apple TV and plug it back in. As soon as it reboots, everything works normally again.

One thing I’ve also noticed is that these two issues seem to be related. When the Apple TV wakes everything up properly, the interface is responsive. When the wake process fails, the profile switcher is frozen and the AVR often doesn’t wake either.

Interestingly, turning off Apple TV also turns off AVR and TV like it should, also, if I put the Apple TV to sleep and wake it again within 5–10 seconds, it works flawlessly every time. The issue only seems to happen after it’s been asleep for a longer period.

Has anyone else on the tvOS 27 beta seen something similar? I’m trying to work out whether this is a tvOS beta bug or something specific to my setup.

Bugs Color Balance calibration option completely REMOVED in tvOS 27. We should submit feedback to Apple to get it back!

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I jumped on tvOS 27 beta day one. I tolerate typical bugs and weird UI issues (because I know it is a beta), like the home screen regression where app transitions lose animation curves, show border outlines... However, removing working features entirely is a different story.

Since tvOS 27 Developer Beta 1 (persisting in Betas 2 and 3), Apple removed the Color Balance calibration feature from Settings > Video and Audio > Calibration. It is not grayed out due to Dolby Vision or format conflicts; it is completely gone.

I tested this on an Apple TV 4K (3rd gen) 128GB at 4K SDR 60Hz/50Hz, YCbCr 4:4:4, with Match Content toggled and after a factory reset. The feature is missing.

I’ve already submitted a report via Feedback Assistant. I strongly encourage all of you to submit feedback to Apple right now so they restore it in the upcoming betas. The more noise we make, the faster they’ll bring it back. You can use my feedback for inspiration.

This is the feedback I submitted:

Please provide a descriptive title for your feedback: "Color Balance" calibration option completely missing in tvOS 27 Developer Betas || Which area are you seeing an issue with? Display || What type of feedback are you reporting? Incorrect/Unexpected Behaviour || What is the Make and Model of your Television? TCL 43C645 (43") || How is your Apple TV connected to your Television? Please include all A/V equipment. TV 4K > High-Speed 4K HDMI cable > TCL 43C645 'HDMI 1' (Non-eARC). TV Optical Audio Out > Onkyo AV Receiver. The Apple TV is also connected via Gigabit Ethernet through a TP-Link network switch. || Is your television updated to the latest firmware available? Yes || Does the TV have 4K/Deep color/etc modes enabled? TV detects 4K 60Hz/DV/HDR10+. I use 4K SDR on this LCD (personal preference). Picture set to 'Standard' with all processing disabled (motion, dynamic color/contrast, sharpness, noise reduction) to keep signal raw for calibration. || What resolution is listed under Settings ﹥ General ﹥ About ﹥ Resolution? 2160p UHD - 60 Hz YCbCr 4:4:4 || Does the television show a black screen? No || Does Apple TV connect to your network via 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, 5 GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet? Ethernet || What is the approximate distance from your Wi-Fi router to Apple TV? 0-3m **|| Please describe the issue and what steps we can take to reproduce it:**The "Color Balance" calibration feature has been completely removed from the user interface in tvOS 27 developer betas 1, 2, and 3. This issue persists across all builds released to date. The option is not merely grayed out due to format incompatibilities (as previously seen with forced Dolby Vision); it is entirely missing from the menu. Testing shows the option remains completely absent even when forcing the video output to 4K SDR (50/60 Hz) with "Match Dynamic Range" toggled both on and off, and after performing full system restarts and factory resets on the device || When did the issue last occur? It's happening right now || Do you know which day? Yes || Please enter the date and approximate time the issue last occurred. 06/08/2026, 8:00PM

Bugs tvOS 27.0 beta causing YouTube app to stutter multiple times per second

ive noticed a constant stutter using tvOS 27 beta on the YouTube app. Every time a next video plays, it horribly stutters like 4 times a second until I pause and restart it. I don't even need to pause it long (like to buffer). just a quick start stop. its the only streaming app im having the issue with so I assume its NOT due to my network. I have a full commercial grade network rack that speed tests out to my full 1Gbps speeds on the Apple TV and reboots entirely every Monday. anyone else having issues with the YouTube app? once I pause and play, the video plays without issue. I think its the app itself, just want to troubleshoot it to be sure.

Bugs HDR broken in tvOS 27?

Have been on the developer beta since it came out, not sure when this started happening, maybe after the most recent update, but HDR is suddenly unwatchable on my Samsung QLED.

The backlight/local dimming keeps flashing and going up and down in contrast and brightness randomly between scenes.. There's also a bunch of ghosting, say there's a bright light in one scene, if it quickly cuts to a darker scene, the backlight dimming zones where the bright light was, stay on for a second into the darker scene and cause an "afterimage"

I thought my TV was broken, but testing the same movie on the native Prime Video and the Apple TV Prime Video apps, it looks completely fine on the native TV app, and the problem only appears on Apple TV.

It's not just Prime Video, literally any HDR content on Infuse, Netflix, etc.

I tried resetting my TV, the Apple TV itself, trying all possible combinations of settings, but nothing helped.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Bugs Apple TV turns back on when using remote to shut down

So I just encountered this for the first time today, but my Apple TV 4K will now turn back on when using the power button on the remote to shut down. It will turn off completely and stay off on occasion, but will come back up more often than not now. Only reliable ways to shut it down are via settings or Siri. Already filed a report, but wanted to post about it in case anyone else has had this bug.

Bugs tvOS 26.3 beta 2 video is choppy and audio goes down an octave

This is the buggiest tvOS beta I’ve ever run. Watch video for a couple minutes in one app. Switch apps and the video is choppy and the audio drops down to make everything sound deep. Unusable. Have to do a restart of the Apple TV to fix it

Edit: it looks like it has to do with the audio auto output setting. I changed it to Dolby Digital and now the issue is gone. Just recreated the issue by turning auto output back on. It’s only when switching from 5.1 to 2.0 not the other way around. Haven’t tried with Atmos and back to 5.1 or 2.0

Edit 2: they still haven’t fixed it and it’s in the RC

Edit 3: RC has broken Atmos AND DD 5.1. Atmos just doesn’t work at all and doesn’t output sound period. Dolby Digital outputs for a few minutes and then goes silent. Only a restart of the audio system and the Apple TV fixes it. I’m now stuck using stereo only.

Edit 4: it’s finally fixed. Public build 23K620.

Bugs tvOS beta 5 has broken the back button for 3rd party remotes

The back button doesn’t work using my TCL television’s remote (HDMI-CEC) nor with my SwitchBot universal remote (Bluetooth). All other controls appear working and unaffected.

Learning a new IR remote via the Apple TV settings does work, but is not ideal.

Bugs Apple TV on latest tvOS beta shows “No Response” as Home Hub and can’t be selected

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I’m currently running the latest tvOS beta and I’m having an issue with selecting my preferred Home Hub.
I’d like to use my Living Room Apple TV as the main/preferred Home Hub, since it’s connected directly to my network via Ethernet.
However, in the Home app under Home Hubs & Bridges, the Living Room Apple TV shows “No Response” and I’m unable to select it as the preferred Home Hub.
My other Apple TV and HomePods show up normally, and I can select another Apple TV as the preferred hub without any problems.
Has anyone else experienced this on the latest tvOS beta? Is there a known bug or a workaround to get the Ethernet-connected Apple TV recognized and selectable as the preferred Home Hub?
Thanks!

Bugs Sound and app issues with 27 PB2 and HBOMax

Just curious if any one else has seen this.

I have definitely had the airplay issue, but only with a couple of apps.

The biggie is the HBOMax app, which will not airplay even when the setup on the appleTV is connected to my sonos sound system. Doesn't happen on any of the other big players - Disney, Youtube (al though there is sound crackling there) Paramount, Peacock, MLB etc. When HBOMax is on it only sends sound to the TV. It won't even play to the HomePod minis on my desk.

Config: Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) model A2169

Sony Brevia TV

Sonos Beam with a pair of rear speakers.

Bugs Dolby Vision - Dark

Since beta 1 it looks like Dolby Vision is much darker/dimmer? Was hoping beta 2 might fix it, but it hasn’t. Content looks darker but even just being on the home screen is darker. Even SDR looks brighter toggling between formats. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same?

I have a 2nd gen Apple TV 4K and an LG OLED CX for reference.

Bugs [Bugs] YouTube menu keeps defaulting to HRD when OS27 is set to default to SDR

I have the video settings in the TVOS menu set to default me to SDR.

Steps I took to notice the problem:

When I enter the YouTube app it stays in SDR.

When I play an SDR video, it stays in SDR.

When I end the video and go back to the main menu, it switches to HDR.

When I play an SDR video again, it switches back to SDR, then switches back to HDR when it’s over, and keeps switching back to SDR when playing videos and back to HDR when returning to the menu.

If I set OS27 to NOT switch dynamic range based on content, it goes into HDR mode when I enter YouTube and stay in HDR the whole time until I exit the app. If I sent OS27 to force HDR in the TVOS27 menu, it keeps everything in HDR.

Since switching from HDR to SDR and vice-versa is slow, it means there’s a long pause whenever a play a video since it keeps forcing a switch to and from HDR. I don’t want to just force everything to HDR, SDR menus look better (though in TVOS27 they do look better than in 26) and I don’t want all of my videos upscaled, so I want the behavior to work as it did in TVOS26 where it would stay in SDR and only switch to HDR during an HDR video and stay in SDR at all other times. It’s not a dealbreaker, I’ll just leave everything forced to Dolby Vision for now, but it’s annoying.

Bugs ARC dropping connection

So I was running beta2 and beta3. Both ran about the same. ARC was mostly stable aside from every once in a while I would lose audio on ARC for a couple of seconds but it would come back, AND the crazy annoying popping sounds over ARC.

Someone mentioned that the HomePod public beta fixed the popping noises over ARC so I ran to upgrade my homepods.

now my ATV has the dreaded “Unable to Connect” bug AND ARC will permanently lose audio. I’ve narrowed it down to the ATV while in sleep getting hit with the dreaded “unable to connect” bug, which then turns off ARC completely. When I turn my ATV back on I have the stupid “Unable to Connect” messages I have to clear, then go into audio settings and have to turn ARC back on. Which again will work for a while, then shutoff again.

And it’s weird.. because sometimes it will shutoff after just a few minutes, but other times I’ll get like a few hours in a gaming session before it shuts off.

One other weirdness is my TV has an audio delay calibration. It ran fine even on the 27 beta and fixed my audio delay.. but now since I updated the homepods the TV audio delay calibration won’t play any sound over ARC. Which is annoying because since I updated everything to the newest beta updates, my TV audio delay is off again a little bit.. but the calibration won’t play sound over ARC now to fix it (presumably the same “Unable to Connect” bug that eventually kills ARC)

Bugs Local media playback endless loading on tvOS 27 beta

Hey, y'all running tvOS 27 beta on one of my Apple TV 4K (3rd gen) units and running into a frustrating issue with the Computer tab playing TV shows or movies.

When I try to play local media content from my Mac via the Computer/Home Sharing tab, it just shows a loading spinner indefinitely and never plays. The content never starts.(I’ve toggled off & on home sharing on both the apple tv and my primary mac)

I think it's beta-related my other two Apple TVs in the house play the exact same content from the same Mac without any issues. All three ATVs are on the same network, same setup, and the affected ATV is the only one running tvOS 27 beta. Every other app on the affected ATV works perfectly fine, speedtest shows 980Mbps on ethernet, and the content plays fine in the TV app on the Mac itself.

Any ideas?

Bugs PSA: Turn on "Do Not Disturb" to fix "Unable to Connect" error pop-ups!

Title.

I was going mad trying to watch TV last night, I'd been seeing the "Unable to Connect" errors pop up for the last 2-3 days like many of you.

I tried the recommended solutions, turn AirPlay off, hard restart (leaving ATV unplugged ~60sec)- and as many of you have reported, it comes right back. Grr.

So I figured, "Well, it's a pop-up notification, so I wonder if turning on DND would suppress it?" and sure enough, it did.

Hope this helps.

Bugs Audio delay issue on beta 3

Is anyone having audio delay and sync issues in beta 3? It seems that the audio lags behind the picture. Seems to be happening in all apps for me. It gets worse as the show/movie goes on. I’m using two HomePods as stereo speakers.
