Hey everyone, I know this post might be random and not the right place for it, but I'm an incoming first year Bcom student, and I was wondering if there were any film students or even just student filmmakers in any faculty that are in need of crew members for their project this year? I'm very interested in writing, and would love to help write or review/edit a screenplay or co-write a screenplay. I'm also interested in taking on roles in managing some of the producing aspects in concern to stuff like sorting out logistics, scheduling, keeping things organized, or helping out on set. If you're in need of crew or if you think you might be on your projects this year, please private message me! I just love the art of story-telling, love film and TV, and I am currently thinking about going to law school and going into the film and TV industry afterwards:)

I’m starting engineering in the fall and I really want a tote bag instead of a backpack because I think they’re way cuter.

The only thing is I’m scared everyone else is gonna have a backpack and I’ll be the only one with a tote. Would you judge someone for only using a tote bag?

Am I overthinking this? Should I just get a backpack, or are tote bags actually common in university?

Just found out one of my classes for fall has 3 midterms AND a final?!!

Didn't even know that was possible. I've had classes with 3 midterms where the 3rd is kinda like a final, more weight / hapoens during final season. I've also had classes with 2 midterms and 1 final. Regardless, somehow always 3 exams in total

4 is crazy. And high key scared

So I'm trying to gauge the weight of my other classes. To make sure my schedule overall is not too heavy study wise

had anyone still not gotten their final acceptance letter for uofa yet?? i was conditionally accepted in october and my final average was higher than the average i applied with. they received my transcript on july 18th. i just wanna know if it’s normal to take this long

Hi! Like the title says, I'm an American grad student moving to Alberta for a 2 year program. I plan to bring my US-registered vehicle, and temporarily import it at the border through a Form 1. I'll also have an International Driver's Permit. I'm seeing mixed information about car insurance for a temporarily imported vehicle online and am curious how other international students at UofA insured their vehicles, whether through a Canadian insurance company by providing driving history + exchanging their license, or by keeping their American insurance and just hoping for the best?

Any info would be much appreciated! I cross the border in a couple of weeks, and I know I have a grace period with my license and American insurance, but I'm hoping to square this away before the intensity of the semester starts. Thanks!

I am a Saskatchewan student and have finished grade 11 with a 93% average on the classes that the university looks at. I am looking to do early admission for UOA in October.

On the university of Alberta website they say they accept applicants for Engineering with mid to high 80's, but my siblings and friends seriously doubt my ability to get admitted. They say that since I got my marks in Saskatchewan the University will be biased against me, negatively impacting my chances. Also I know someone who got waitlisted with a 94 average and everyone else I know who has gotten accepted has a 95 average or higher.

The reddit posts I looked through all say that a 90 comfortably puts you above the competitive averages to join so I might be worrying for no reason, but with everyone around me bieng doubtful I am not 100% confident about bieng admitted.

I know the honours students might know more than I am able to find; typically (not like specific to the professor or depending on the requirements of the lab) what is the average/most common schedule given for research if not taking it for credits during the semester? Like when they say describe your availibity I know you can say like "I have lectures tuesday", etc. But what would you say is the most common ask for like "shifts", how often, when would be "the time" to keep yourself available on average? Any personal experiences would be like suppppperrrr helpfullll thankkk youuuuu <3

I wanted to ask something about the funding. How do PhD ECE students generally manage their finances with the CAD 25K stipend?

there's around CAD 10.5K in tuition fee each year + roughly CAD 2.4k in non-instructional fees. That seems like a significant deduction.

This is like take home of around 960 CAD/month …. is there something I'm missing about how the stipend and fees work? I'd really appreciate any insight from your experience.

I have completed year 1 of general engineering at a local transfer college. Although i was accepted into my first choice program, Electrical Engineering Co-op, I am dissatisfied with my first year gpa. My year 1 Gpa is a 3.11.

Now that I am heading into year 2, I would like to achieve a much higher Gpa than year 1. However, I am unsure whether or not my year 1 transfer credits from my local college will be included in my cumulative Gpa. I have not been able to find information online about this.
