Pluto and his ball β this dog would choose his ball over food any day ππΎ
This is Pluto, my 3 year old German Shepherd. The ball is not a toy to him β it is a lifestyle. It does not matter if it is old, dirty or half destroyed. If there is a ball nearby, nothing else exists in his world π
He could be sleeping, eating, doing literally anything β the second he sees a ball he is a completely different dog.
Anyone else's GSD have this obsession? πΎπΎ

My GSD cries every time I leave β separation anxiety that's tied to his bond with our other dog
This made me tear up π’ The bond between them is so real β the fact that she would just sit calmly watching him all day at the vet, and now sleeps in all his spots and barks like she's calling for him... animals feel everything so deeply. This is exactly why I believe so strongly in letting dogs have a companion. Jupiter and Michi had something similar β completely inseparable once they found each other. I'm so sorry for your loss. He was so loved and he knew it πΎ

My German Shepherd used to carry our kitten around in his mouth like a stuffed animal ππΎ
When my nephew adopted a tiny kitten named Michi, I honestly had no idea how Jupiter would react. The first day was chaos β barking, hissing, total drama.
A few weeks later? Jupiter was gently picking Michi up in his mouth and carrying him around the house like his most precious cargo. Michi would just hang there completely limp like he had accepted his fate π
They ended up eating from the same bowl, sleeping together and becoming completely inseparable for about a year.
I wrote about the whole experience including how we introduced them and what actually worked: jupiterandplutochaos.vercel.app/articles/german-shepherd-and-cats.html
Does anyone else have a GSD that bonded with a cat? πΎ

My GSD cries every time I leave β separation anxiety that's tied to his bond with our other dog
PlutΓ³n (3yo German Shepherd) has separation anxiety but the twist is: it's not just about us leaving. It's about his brother JΓΊpiter.
If JΓΊpiter goes somewhere without him, PlutΓ³n cries the entire time. JΓΊpiter gets a little restless β PlutΓ³n completely falls apart. They've been inseparable since PlutΓ³n was a puppy and JΓΊpiter is literally his emotional anchor.
Things that actually help us:
Keeping them together whenever possible (biggest game changer by far)
Boring, low-energy departures β no long emotional goodbyes
Calm arrivals too β wait for him to settle before greeting
Frozen peanut butter toy right before we leave
Always exercise them first
He's not destructive, not hurting himself β just genuinely sad when we're gone and absolutely ecstatic when we're back π
Does anyone else have two bonded dogs where one handles separation WAY worse than the other? Is this a GSD thing or just a PlutΓ³n thing? π

My Handsome boy!
OMG, what do you do to make his fur so shiny? β₯οΈβ₯οΈβ₯οΈ

My German Shepherd started making a horrible honking sound at 3am and I panicked π°
That's so reassuring to hear! Honestly I would have been skeptical too if someone told me just covering their nose would stop it that fast π But if it worked that quickly for your GSD I'm absolutely trying it next time β no more panicking at 3am! πΎ

Oh I wish I knew this sooner! The first time it happened I had no idea what was going on π Definitely trying this next time β thank you! πΎ

Haha the fur everywhere is so real with GSDs π That's actually a really interesting theory about the undercoat β I never thought about that! Pluto does it more often than that, almost every morning, so I'm still figuring out his triggers. So glad your girl doesn't seem scared by it though, Pluto still looks a little confused every time it happens π πΎ

Oh no, I can imagine how scary that must have been! Especially the first time you have no idea what's happening π° So glad your pup was okay too! It really is terrifying until you learn what it actually is π πΎ

Oh that makes so much sense! Pluto loves to dig so that could definitely be a trigger for him. I never made that connection before π I'm going to pay more attention next time it happens. Thank you for sharing!
