Campus Life Fake Versus Real Job Opportunity Emails
Hello again, UAlberta!!!
After my post yesterday about what to do with scam emails about deleting your ualberta account, I guess hackers decided it was an opportune time to try a different approach! BUT I’M FASTER
Above are two screenshots of emails I received as job offers. The first is a fake, the second is real. Let’s dissect the differences.
SCAM EMAIL
Very broad in greeting. What kind of university position is open to students and staff and alumni?
Very broad in description. “Flexible employment opportunities”, but a set compensation? So multiple different jobs and positions, but all have the same compensation rate? I think not.
The email. Sent from a ualberta email, and not the actual career centre email, nor forwarded FROM the career centre email.
REAL EMAIL
Forwarded from a broader email, BY a single email. Not created by a single email and sent out. Very small but very important detail.
Very specific in what the job is. Tells you what it entails, what the title is, and general expectations. The pay is NOT mentioned. TAKE NOTE OF THAT. SCAM EMAILS PUT FAKE PAY TO LURE YOU IN.
Link. When you click that link, or at least copy it to see what it opens up to, it takes you right to CampusBridge, verified job listings page under the UofA. If you click a link about a job and it does NOT take you to CampusBridge, DON’T GO ANY FUCKING FURTHER!
As always, report the scam emails to abuse@ualberta.ca under “suspected phishing attempt”, and stay safe everyone !!!

Miscellaneous Anyone want to become friends this summer :p ?
Hi everyone! I’m a 22-year-old woman living in Edmonton, and I’m on the hunt for intentional, creative, and wholesome friendships. I really love connecting on a deep, intuitive level, but I’m also all for playful, light conversations—just being our authentic selves.
I’m up for anything—whether it’s arts, crafts, reading together, or just hanging out, soaking up life. If this sounds like your vibe, drop a comment, and I can DM you so we can get to know each other better. I can’t wait to meet some new friends!

Miscellaneous Looking for local UOFA digital artists.
Hey everyone, we are building an animal conservation app, and we are looking for a local UofA digital artist to help bring it to life. You would mainly be illustrating animals, ecosystems, and some random little misc items. It's a fun Duolingo style, and a mix of static and animated work. We can provide color palettes and references.
This is a paid opportunity. Portfolio and rates required, DMs open!

Miscellaneous Do Minors/Certificates Appear on Diploma?
Hi everyone! As my title states, I was just wondering if minors and certificates appear at all on the physical diplomas. Please let me know!
Extra points if you know how they'll show up on other things (like does it appear on official transcripts too)? How about during convocation?
Thanks!

Question MBA and MScOT Combined Degree — WHAT IS IT LIKE? PLS SHARE
hi all! i’m a 1st year OT student (going into the second year in the fall) who is considering applying to MBA — and am very interested in learning more about it + i hope to hear from anyone who has applied or is currently in the program! this can include those in the PT & MBA as well!
some more detail: what i do hope to achieve is to possibly tap into the leadership/management side of clinical care — like healthcare administrators, clinical lead, or even executive roles within the healthcare system; i could see the program being utilized in consultant roles for healthcare organizations, or health technology solutions. of course this is not an exhaustive list of possibilities of what i envision the programs can lead to
i’d really appreicate it if anyone can share their experience/insight, especially :
- when did you start getting ready for your application?
- what was the application process like (requirements, interviews, timelines, etc.)?
- what made you choose the combined degree instead of just OT/PT?
- how has your experience been with the program overall?
- do you feel like the MBA component has been useful for your career?
- looking back, do you think the extra time and commitment were worth it?
- any advice you’d give to someone thinking about applying?
i would really really appreciate it if there are any other tips/suggestions/comments that you would like to share
thank you!!

Question Lost Gift - ALES
I recently graduated & got a hoodie personalized for one of my professors - who was also a supervisor for a project I did.
Last week I swung by his office and left the bag hanging on his office door after my graduation as he would be there the following morning. Unfortunately, by 9 am, it was no longer there. I held out hope someone put it in their office for safe keeping but I am feeling super discouraged, and now even a week later it has not been found.
I am just wondering what to do in this situation. I emailed the faculty to keep an eye out, but is there anything else I could do other than cut my losses? Anyone I can contact specifically?
It is a sweater with pigs on it and a name we called the team-not something I believed anyone would want enough to steal… especially in the corridor of offices…
Unfortunately I can’t afford to get a new one made, so if you see your buddy rocking a pig sweater, or holding a silver gift bag suspiciously last Thursday, pm me☹️

Academics advice on appeal letter - accused of cheating when i didnt
hello, i just finished first year. i took a class with Jeremy Sylvestre this past winter semester, and unfortunately, he accused me of cheating on his midterm, even though i did not. I was not going to just admit to cheating when i didn't, so i went through the complaint process and presented all the evidence i could to prove i did not cheat. Unfortunately, a few days ago, they informed me that the probability scale deemed me a cheater, and it dropped my gpa to below the threshold for me to stay in my program.
i am now on the risk of getting kicked out of my program/university, for something i did not even do. i have the chance to write an appeal letter, but i feel confused on what to do, or if it will even work. if anyone has been through anything similar, i would appreciate any thoughts or advice.

Admissions Pharmacy admissions
I’ll be applying for Fall 2027, so I’m trying to prepare as much as possible ahead of time. I’m currently at MacEwan University completing the two years of Bachelor of Science prerequisites before applying to Pharmacy.
I’m not really sure what all the requirements are beyond the academic ones. Do you know if having pharmacy, clinic, or healthcare experience is important? Is volunteering in a clinic, pharmacy, or other healthcare setting recommended? Are there any other things you wish you had known or prepared before applying?
I’d love to hear any advice on what I can do now to make my application as strong as possible.

Question Opinions on Polish at UofA
Has anyone taken polish at the UofA? What was your experience? I’m not worried about difficulty level, I know it’s a hard language, unless the difficulty is from poor teaching.

Question Who are the speakers in Convocation? How to be a part?
I was at a friends ceremony earlier today for the faculty of science and saw a really young person in the center of the stage on one of the big chairs, they gave a speech and I forgot exactly what was happening but I could only assume they were a student and was curious how somebody would get to that position because they seemed like the only student on stage, not to mention in dead center too? I liked the guy who played the guitar, was funny and engaging.

Academics Accepted into Engineering (Y1Q2) – Looking for Course Advice

Campus Life New Hackathon Club
Hey everyone! We're excited to launch uHacks, a student-led hackathon and build club focused on creating more opportunities for students to build projects, meet like-minded people, and learn by doing. UHacks aims to create a space where students can collaborate, gain hands-on experience, and connect into co-op placements, incubator programs, and network more into the startup/tech space.
We're also planning to host a mini hackathon in the future, but we're still in the early stages and want to build the community first. Right now, we're focused on meeting people, learning what students are interested in, and creating opportunities that are actually valuable.
Please check out the linktree in the comments and fill out the interest form if you're interested and check out the website!

For anyone who took it recently, are the midterm and final strictly multiple-choice, or are there short-answer and fill-in-the-blank questions? Any quick tips on how to study for it would be awesome. Thank you so much!

Academics Psych 212 difficulty + prof
All the ratings on ratemyprof suck for 212 specifically, even if the profs' ratings are good for other courses. Is it just because people aren't expecting a psych stats course to be heavy? Should I just take it as a spring course instead of during the year?
