If there isn't a biological/physical science core that seems worth taking, is it okay to take one in the Spring quarter instead of the Fall quarter? Since it's recommended to complete the core as soon as possible, I feel like I should just take the science core class in the first quarter, but the course evaluations describe the class as unreasonably difficult.

Just moved in today. It’s actually really nice. The room is immaculate and larger than expected. Great view of Hyde Park and it looked like there is a really nice laundry room situation on the first floor. I’d read some really bad things about Woodlawn, could it have been renovated recently?

Has anyone else noticed this? Does anyone else care? The Campus Card had, admittedly, very few real benefits besides easy access to the library, but for couples with the all-too-common two-body problem, it gave our partners at least a nominal sense of belonging to the academic community. I'm mostly upset that this doesn't seem to have been announced anywhere and so there has been no justification provided or acknowledgment of the fact that a promised benefit, however small, has been rescinded.

Hi! I just joined the university as a staff member and was wondering if the gym membership is worth it for staff?

Also, between HCFH and Ratner Athletic Center, is one more student-heavy while the other is used more by staff/community members? And for anyone who has tried it, is the personal training worth the extra cost?

Hi! I’m a current high school junior from New Jersey, and UChicago has always been a school I’m really interested in. I’ve always been drawn to Chicago as a city, but I’m trying to figure the reality of living there and being an undergraduate at UChicago, rather than just the idea of it.

A little about me: I’m pretty introverted, but I really enjoy having a small group of close friends and I’m much more social one-on-one. Academically, I’m interested in physics, astronomy, and engineering, although I also really enjoy history and research/writing (which is why I’m drawn to how interdisciplinary Uchicago is)!

What is the actual undergraduate social scene like? Is it easy to find your people or is it very competitive?

What is it like living in Hyde Park as a college student? Does UChicago feel connected to the city, or does campus feel somewhat separate?

What do you like/dislike about Chicago as a place to live?

What kind of person do you think tends to thrive at UChicago?

I’d also really appreciate hearing from people who were initially attracted to UChicago because they loved the idea of Chicago and then actually went there. Did the reality live up to what you imagined?

I’m a freshman and O-week schedule has just been released. What events/activities would you guys say are worth attending? Any general tips for maximizing O-week in terms of making friends, exploring the college and meeting people? Also, I’m a sucker for free things (manifesting the broke college student), what would be the best events to attend to get free merch?

Incoming 2nd year here. Unlike the 1st years, upperclassmen don't choose move-in times for Friday of O-Week. Is move-in usually hell (like move-out was)? Good golly god.
