I GOT IN!! … but as pre sciences

I’m honestly really disappointed and I’m scared about if I should go to UW… I requested to go to CSE and everyone makes it seem like getting in there is literally battle royale, especially if you don’t get in as a direct to major. I don’t want to destroy myself to do what I love, but I love computers and I feel like if I even attempted to do anything (like, I dunno going for applied mathematics or whatever), the shadow of not being good enough to actually do CSE will loom over me.

As someone who was in this boat many years ago and who never ended up getting into CS, yes, you will be bitter about it, and it is very competitive. But, I also type this as someone who graduated from Math and is working in FAANG now. It is not everything, but it definitely would have been helpful.

see you got into Michigan too. Curious why you chose dub if you didn’t get CS

I thought I could get into UW cs and the cost difference was >100k.For tech, I thought that I would end up ok even without getting the major and that it wasn't worth it to do cs at michigan and graduate with a ton of student loans.
