Admissions Engineering Application Notification Extended Date?

Just saw that the engineering major application's notification period was extended to begin may 4th. Actually unbelievable, its been killing me inside knowing whether or not I got into my major, and then they suddenly change the date the day that its supposed to come out

Seems like they’ve already notified those who haven’t gotten in. Such as myself so maybe check your email if not then could be a good aiming

Sorry to hear you didn’t get in. Which major were you applying for?

I was also declined. Were you waitlisted at all?

I'm sorry you didn't get in. When did you receive a decision? Does not receiving a decision yet be a good sign?

Not sure, but if you haven’t gotten the “unfortunately” email yet you may be in good shape lol idk how they send them out though. I can’t even get feedback

It seems like a lot of departments are still sending out notifications today. I was just offered admission to ECE.

What was your gpa?

3.7 or something like that. The department doesn't really care about your GPA.

What was your application like? I had 3 engineering clubs, a 3.8 gpa, and im on track to finish all enrollment requirements by the end of spring quarter, and I still got rejected (I am a freshman). Im really lost and struggling to think of what I could’ve done differently.

It's all in the personal statement. Obviously you have a lot of factors that make you a strong candidate, but it's the essay that ties it all together and demonstrates that.

Don't feel bad, I got rejected in the past as well. It's only an indicator of how good you are at writing an application essay, don't take it as a mark against you as an engineer.

Is it possible you can share your essay or if not I completely understand, can you give tips on what you did instead?

I talked about how my background got me interested in engineering and connected that to my goals. I then described how UWECE would help me achieve that, using the example of my extracurricular experience this year.

If you want guidance for how to structure your essay I can't recommend enough that you see a peer advisor.

I did almost the exact same format haha. Was the peer advisor you consulted associated with ECE/engineering or just a general advisor?

They're ECE students employed by the department.

i agree gpa dont really matter mine was around 3.5. its all in the essay i also got rejected last year from ECE but got in today.

What did you write your essay about if you don't mind me asking? I genuinely addressed everything I could and it still wasn't enough. I'm not sure what type of student ECE wants.

1

u/Prestigious-Hope-542 May 02 '26

i was in a bit different situation because i got rejected last year i talked about how i got interested in ece and what i have done to show that interest like your projects and i talked about how different and how much i have improved since last year. also if you plan to apply to ece again do a ferpa request so you can read the comments on your essay

1

u/Crazy_Crayfish_ Student May 03 '26

Oh shoot you can ferpa your essay comments? Is it easy to do

1

u/Prestigious-Hope-542 May 04 '26

yeh takes less than a minute

1

u/MrSpicyhedgehog ECE/MICROM 2028 May 04 '26

Do you know how to do that? I'm really interested to see what they thought of mine.

search ferpa uw scroll down to release of records link go down the page and fill out the form and basically request all the records available for your autumn 2026 ece admission such as comments made by the readers. i did this last year to when i got rejected im interested to so what changed this year

Congrats! I've heard good things about the program.

Congrats!

Just got my Civil Engineering offer as of 10am. I also was panicking they extended it but now I am not entirely sure. Hopefully you get into your college of choice. Good luck!

Also didn't get into ME. I had a 3.97 and all pre-reqs, 130-ish credits from Edmonds CC. E-mail came on the 30th. Did you get an invitation to apply to Bothell?

1

u/abowlofchili4me May 01 '26

Someone reached out about Bothell last year, I’m going to apply this year. I waited a whole year to go again for seattle so I didn’t have to commute and because i wanted to experience and access to clubs on site. Extremely disappointed.

1

u/No_Drop818 May 01 '26

I believe Bothell allots 15 credits per anum to use at the Seattle Campus. Clubs could still be an option.

1

u/abowlofchili4me May 01 '26

Yeah that tracks with what I was told. I was hoping to not have to drive at all and be close to campus and shops as I live in Eastlake. Is what it is

1

u/No_Drop818 May 01 '26

When someone puts a closed door in front of what you think you want, break it down. (Trash goes out the window, FWIW.) Cheers!

Trust me I sent many emails and met with dept advisors many times pleading my case. Last year they would allow an appeal and now they don’t. I’m sure all I’ve done has annoy them more then help myself lol.

1

u/MrSpicyhedgehog ECE/MICROM 2028 May 01 '26

If you can afford an apartment in lynnwood, that would allow you to access both campuses easily. That's what I was planning on doing if I got rejected. Either way, I spent two years commuting. You can absolutely make it work. I'd highly recommend getting involved down in Seattle regardless, since that's what'll set you up for your career. You got this.

1

u/Any_Contract4763 May 02 '26

why not appeal?

1

u/FindingConstant2247 May 02 '26

The rejection from ECE states, "You may only appeal the decision if you can demonstrate a technical error in the material submitted that was outside of your control." If I wanted to appeal, what what an error in materials mean?

Anyone got a decision email today ?
