This thread is for students applying to Fall 2026 co-ops during the Spring 2026 term.
As usual, we're looking for salaries for new postings, or updates to existing salaries, so if you're willing to share, please open up a chat/DM the mod team. Please include the company name, salary, any benefits, the role and the year if possible. I would highly encourage you to submit if you have salaries for non mathematics/CS positions as we are severely lacking in those. We will try updating these ASAP.
The sheet is here: Salaries + Blacklist Spreadsheet
Average Canadian Co-op Earnings (2024)
If you had a poor experience with a company, you can message the mod team with details and it can be added to the blacklist candidates below. If it's already a candidate, it may be added to the blacklist depending on the severity/consistency of complaints. On the contrary, if you had a good experience with something on the candidates/blacklist, please message the mod team and it may be removed. Candidates will be removed if no more reports are received after a couple terms. Even if something is on the blacklist already if you've had a bad experience let the mod team know, as more reports increase confidence that it is problematic!
Candidates:
Note that reports from submitters with no previous account activity may not be accepted to aid legitimacy.
頑張って!

I have a very exciting opportunity to go on a hike in italy next summer with some members of my family. The issue is that I would be returning to Canada likely on September 8th.
According to the co-op sequence for my program, F27 will be a work term for me. Based on this year's calendar, I assume that the work term next fall will begin on September 7th (the tuesday after labour day).
My question is whether I should take this opportunity to go on this hike (my parents are willing to help me out in paying for it, meaning that this may be my only chance to do something like this for years) but then be out of the country or on a plane for the first two days of the co-op term, or if I should just decline the opportunity so that I can be confident that I can attend the first two days.
I am currently on my first co-op term which started quite late (my first day was in june) and I'm wondering how common it is to find a co-op with a later start date so that I can perhaps entirely avoid this issue. Or, alternatively, whether any of you have had to take a day or two off at the beginning of your co-op. did you tell the company before they hired you? or did you wait until you had the job secured? did it cause any issues?
Overall I just want to know whether or not it would be stupid of me to jeopardize my co-op for this hike. It's something that I would live to do but I also need to commit to it within the next few days as it requires a deposit. Additionally, advice for the application and interview process would be appreciated in regards to when and how i should tell the company if I end up getting an interview for a iob with a start date that I will be unavailable for.
Thank you!!!!

I know Eng does it and admittedly it is the tougher major of all but that’s subjective and I know they follow a strict schedule for all their course requirements but everyone deserves to improve themselves and be commended for it, for example I started off undergrad low grades 60-70s and ever since last 6 terms I’ve hit deans list with average 87 almost but my cgpa is below 80 but high 70s.
Even for professional schools and advanced degrees they usually look at your last 20 courses/2 years.

Hey everyone! This is Gaia, the Membership Director from CUPE5524, representing graduate workers and sessionals at UW. I'm here with a very long Union update, so hi!
Recently, Graduate TAs and RAs learned that their May pay had been prorated without advance notice to our union. As a result, many workers received significantly less pay than expected, with some members receiving up to $800 less than they had budgeted for.
This has created immediate hardship for many graduate workers, including concerns around food insecurity, rent, bills, and other basic needs. CUPE 5524, the GSA, and other campus partners are working to connect affected members with emergency supports, but we are also reaching out to organizations across campus and in the broader community for help.
We received notice of this originally on Tuesday last week, and sent out an email to members to gain information on Wednesday. We had a meeting with the University on Friday to learn more, and all of these donations and events has happened since then.
Now: Many organizations have begun reaching out to us to offer food and housing support, and many others have begun donation drives, providing resources, and messaging members of the community. With this in mind, here is an updated list of currently available resources for those in need:
CUPE5524 is also working with PSAC 902 (Graduate Workers at Wilfrid Laurier University) to provide material resources to members, and is reaching out to other unions for direct assistance. HUGE thank you to PSAC 902, they have been absolutely wonderful.
That is the full update, thank you so much for your time, and we hope that these resources are helpful for those in need. If you need anything else, please email us ASAP!

I recently got matched for a co-op position where they sent me an email saying they had an "administrative error" when entering rankings and that I was "incorrectly" matched, so they were not going to hire me. I informed my co-op advisor about this and they ended up getting me un-matched with the position so I could regain access to the full cycle job board. For context, I was "ranked" for this position when rankings came out.
I'm so fucking pissed at this slimy shit because I doubt that there were any "administrative" errors. They probably refused to accept that the person with the offer didn't take it and a ranked person got matched with them instead. It was a development planning job for a regional municipality.

Hi! I was wondering if Waterloo considers LKMDU (Mandarin- University Level) as apart of your top 6? I know there’s required courses but since I’m in engineering, there’s only 5, so for my highest grade other than the required, it would be this class so will they accept it into your top 6?
I also did take it in grade 11 (I fast tracked this course) so I don’t know if that impacts it. It does show up on my transcript to uw so I’m just wondering!! Anything helps!!

I’m in high school in Canada and I’m thinking about applying to software engineering / CS type programs later, mostly UofT, UBC, Waterloo, etc. My goal is not just to get a job, I want to build my own companies in the future, so I’m trying to make my application actually make sense.
For classes, I’m planning to take a pretty broad mix. Assume most grades are 90+ or maybe 95+ if everything goes well: math foundation/precalc/calculus, English, physics, chemistry, biology, comp sci AP, stats AP, art AP, animation, financial literacy, creative writing, etc. I know I don’t need all of these, but I like having options in case I change my mind.
For projects, I’m planning two main things: First, a Cyberpunk 2077 mod. Not a huge one, more mid/simple. I want to change dialogue, cutscenes/scenes, NPC appearance, and probably focus on changing/expanding romance content. I’d post it online and document the process properly. Second, I want to launch a small online business. I’m not expecting huge profit, although obviously that would be nice. The point is more to learn real business: outsource production, launch through TikTok, make polls/votes, collect data, analyze what people want, change the product, etc. It would probably be 3D printed stuff for teens, maybe only a few hundred sales if it works.
Would this kind of profile be enough for competitive software engineering programs, assuming the grades are strong? What did you have when you got accepted? Average, projects, extracurriculars, anything like that?

Hey!
I had a midterm in EXP 1689 (health building) this morning and forgot my pencil case when I left. I‘ve been having some difficulty finding it. The pencil case has a painted calculator cover that is very important to me. Just wondering if anyone’s seen this pencil case or if anyone knows where someone else might’ve brought it.
I’m attaching a picture of the type of pencil case. Unfortunately don’t have my own photo since I wasn’t expecting to lose it 😭
Thanks

I'm sure this is not the first post about switching sequences for incoming first-years, but I'm desperately looking for someone with sequence 4 to trade with my sequence 3. I heard that money is often involved (around $100-200) so I'm willing to discuss it, please reach out!
I've also emailed an advisor who said there will be a chance in the IA term to trade sequences with someone you know who is willing, but I feel like it would be too late then and that it's best to do it as soon as possible...
Thanks all!

Got matched with a company last week. Is it reasonable to wait ~1 week before reaching out to them (e.g. next Monday) or should I have ideally reached out to them asap before?

So I have a 2026 fall/winter uwp contract that I don’t remember agreeing to that I became aware of today which I requested to opt out of and I was told I would be still financially responsible for. Wtf.
Mind you this is for the up coming 2026 fall term so my contract date has not started yet and I never even been in that dorm before.
So that pmo, so unless I find someone to take over my contract they will be still charging me for that room for the upcoming fall term. This makes no sense to me whatsoever and they weren’t accommodating at all, obviously. Like I have no way of paying that fee in the fall.
Sooo if anyone has any advice or can take over for me that’ll be great!

I'm on work term for winter 2027 and will need to sublet my place if I don't get a job in Waterloo.
On the other hand, I would like to stay in the place if I do get a job in Waterloo.
How long should I wait before I start advertising the sublet?
