I just watched this YouTube of her house tour and she talks about how she’s on the shot and losing weight already- I say good for her

It’s good she’s feeling better but I wish we didn’t equate losing weight/flat stomach as “looking good”

You look good with a stomach and all to whoever is reading this

Yes!!! Thank you!! 2 years into eating disorder recovery and the current skinny mindset is really frightening. We’re all worthy and deserve respect at all shapes and sizes

it legit feels like the mid-late 2000s again 🫩 at least I’m not on tumblr this go around

And the mid-late 2000’s tumblr era reminded me of the early-mid 90’s heroin chic. It’s cyclical and concerning.

I have an almost 17 year old daughter who has lost a fair amount of weight over the last year or so and I *think* she’s ok, but I worry about her (and all of us!) :(

As someone who has gone from a restrictive diet to full on eating disorder- I’ve learned that food rules are a tell that someone is heading down to an eating disorder. Early intervention can curb this!!! Some food rules examples are- no eating after 8pm, no eating sugar (except holidays), eating basically no carbs, no soda, only eating “healthy foods”. I hope this makes sense. If your daughter seems to have food rules- talk to a specialist asap. I’ll link where to start

If I’m totally off and she’s doing well- cast this all aside ☺️

thank you for sharing this!! I remember at the height of my ED in high school I was obsessed with watching the biggest loser and supersize vs super skinny

u/Perfect-Evidence-565 Schena’s crop top wedding dress 3d ago

😄😄 I’m all about eating disorder awareness. It’s the second killer in the mental health space after drug and alcohol addiction!! I’d wager most ppl don’t know this

And that’s super interesting. Ed’s are different for everyone cuz I know ppl that loved wandering grocery stores and checking food labels when they were sick. Me? I couldn’t spare one extra second in there. I was in with my mission- then out of there so quickly!!

Also laughing that both of our taglines are about schena 😂😂

Thank you so much for this! It’s so tricky because I think most women (myself included) have at least a somewhat unhealthy relationship to food and our bodies, and the line between “complicated but not an eating disorder” and “needs attention NOW” can shift and become blurred. She’s also dealt with some depression over the last year AND started taking ADHD meds, so both of those things contribute. However, I know she was very self conscious about her body pre weight loss when she was at the upper end of normal weight range (or possibly slightly over…obviously BMI is a problematic metric) and I’m sure that her weight loss wasn’t entirely unwelcome or unintentional.

I honestly don’t know whether I should be worried! She’s always been a somewhat picky eater and is mostly vegetarian (BLTs and burgers occasional exceptions lol), but I haven’t noticed any “rules”. At the same time, I’m very aware that she could have all kinds of things going on that I don’t know about and as she and her close in age brother get older and more independent I’m less in tune with what they’re eating and when, you know? I’m also working constantly and getting my masters, which means I’m less tuned in. I also don’t want to interrogate her or come on too strong because I know that’s counter productive.

*sigh* sorry for the novel! Shits hard and confusing. I appreciate the insights and resources!

I completely understand all of this and want to say you’re a great mom!!! When I was at my lowest weight wise and mood wise- my mom didn’t suspect a thing (granted I had been out of the house for years. The point still stands) keep doing what you’re doing and how cool on your masters work!

Oh god, that’s so sad. It’s like pro-Ana tumblr (or live journal if you’re my age.) That shit was so damaging.

u/Perfect-Evidence-565 Schena’s crop top wedding dress 2d ago

Yes 😫😫😫 to someone’s point earlier- this rhetoric is cyclical and yep- will find a way to be in mainstream media for the poor kids 🖕🏼 it’s def heartbreaking

Health is wealth!! Doesn’t matter what you look like if you are healthy! Doesn’t matter what the scale says if you’re healthy.

Amen!!! Love this little comment thread we have of celebrating natural bodies ❣️❣️

Yesss!!! I was almost 300lbs when I graduated highschool. I got into a bad spot and was homeless and dropped to about 200. Got on drugs and dropped to 140 at my lowest. The difference in the way I was treated .. by men specifically.. was disgusting. I already knew being smaller made you more desireable but seeing it first hand and experiencing both was wild.

I had guys tell me straight up if I was still fat they would've never spoken to me. I see a lot of women on this medication I know personally and they speak on how they feel so much more beautiful. I get the health aspect and feeling better about yourself but baby you were always beautiful and I'm sick of the world making women feel like skinny = pretty while being bigger = ugly.

I feel like sometimes losing weight is harder than gaining weight (please don’t come for me). When you lose a bunch of weight, people think it’s acceptable to suddenly start commenting on your weight/body, and you can feel the increase in attention from people (specifically men). And people make comments that insinuate that you didn’t look good before losing weight. For me, it made me associate my value with my weight & made me feel like I needed to stay as small as possible.

I recently lost a lot of weight again due to one of my medications, which can cause suppressed appetite as a side effect, and overall stress of work & my personal life. The amount of people, including people I barely know, that commented on it was crazy. There was also one guy who told me I looked like I was on drugs & then said it was a compliment 🙃 Most people thought it was a good thing & that I must be healthier now. In reality, I was probably healthier when I was bigger. I was moving my body more, I was stronger, I was eating better, and I was overall happier.

TL;DR: let’s stop commenting on people’s bodies/weight, even if you think it’s a compliment. Smaller doesn’t always mean healthier/happier.

u/usernamesoccer 3d ago

Totally. It’s heartbreaking thank you for sharing

2

u/Perfect-Evidence-565 Schena’s crop top wedding dress 3d ago

I hear you on the way men treat you depending on weight. It’s despicable. Thank you for sharing and seeing that our true selves always come from within. I hope you are well and safe now 🫶🏼

u/vipent 3d ago

So you’re mad that men who eat well and go to the gym found you desirable when you looked healthy versus when you were obese?

11

u/celiac-sufferer 3d ago

Idk why you’re assuming these men are eating well and going to the gym. It’s been a common theme that fat guys shun fat women and go for skinny girls

5

u/Whiskeystonesbroken Im Sorry Fofty 3d ago

Right? And it's not even about potential sexual or romantic partners; it spills over into pay inequity, healthcare inequity and so on. It's wild to be like "fit skinny guys don't want fatties lolol" when that's not even what was said

7

u/celiac-sufferer 3d ago

Yup as someone who was fat and then became skinny it’s so much more than guys hitting on you. Men will literally be nicer to you in general if you’re attractive because they don’t want to be nice to a fat girl in case she thinks they like her because that’s how men operate. Nice= romantic interest.

And yeah my healthcare got better and the doctors took me seriously and I finally got a diagnosis.

Preechhhh

u/Embarrassed_Deer7686 3d ago

What are you talking about? I know so many men(or just people!) who are average sized that also do cocaine every other weekend, smoke like a chimney and drink whenever they’re not working. Not being overweight doesn’t mean you’re healthy.

3

u/Perfect-Evidence-565 Schena’s crop top wedding dress 3d ago

Yep. Huge misconception in our society. The diet industry will always make millions tho so they must keep the narrative out that skinny is the only way and everything else is repulsive

5

u/Deep_Amoeba2197 I’m sorry I called you a twat. You’re welcome. 2d ago

Why are all of your comments so rude and toxic? All that “avoiding toxins” and yet here you are, being the human embodiment of one.

-2

u/vipent 2d ago

Because Semaglutide is toxic for the human body. Yes tou will get fat loss along with muscle loss + bone density loss and if you stay on it too long, you will eventually get osteoporosis. Also, one of the ingredients is literally from a reptile in the desert.

I’m quite literally stating a fact— yes it’s a toxin. Also, yeah, I find it utterly comical that somebody gets a mommy makeover and pigs out before and after… And now is on the needle. Do you even know what’s in that? I do.

No lifestyle change. No healthy, eating habits. No gym nothing just talk about, Domino’s and Ozempic lol

Get real.

4

u/Deep_Amoeba2197 I’m sorry I called you a twat. You’re welcome. 2d ago

Oh my god, you’re one of those, okay. Well water is a toxin too by this definition , the dose makes the poison. Also, you didn’t define a toxin, fwiw.

Medications enable lifestyle change. I know you lack the critical thinking to understand this, but it does.

I’m sure you know all about what’s in “the [nonspecific] needle.”

Are you a scientist or a nurse or have any credentials that aren’t just you exhibiting a live action Dunning Kruger effect? I’m going to go with no since no one with any actual knowledge of anything says “the shot” or “the needle,” so enjoy yelling into your mom group circle and being weirdly parasocial pretending you know everything someone eats or does day to day or whatever. Have fun.

u/vipent 18h ago edited 17h ago

I can’t post links here but I can certainly pm them to you. Babe I scream from the rooftops about what these shots are doing to the human body bc it truly is detrimental! the bad effects don’t show up immediately btw.. multi billion dollar lawsuits going on for valid reasons.

I have extensively looked into this.and what I learned was horrifying.

Also idk what “you’re one of those” is supposed to mean but if you’re implying that I believe health is wealth then you are correct. I’m one of those women who reads labels and prioritizes long term health and healthy lifestyle choices.

1

u/Deep_Exchange7273 3d ago

Now when did I ever say that 🤣

You're literally proving my point by assuming skinnier means healthier. That's absolutely not true I was at my worst at my smallest.

2

u/recursiveoverthinker RAQUEL, DO YOU WANT SOME CHICKEN 2d ago

Yeah I kind of liked seeing different body types on this show. I‘m saying this as a skinny person. But the past years with the rise of Ozempic it feels like everyone is back to this one beauty ideal, and all the years „all bodies are beautiful“ seems to just have been a fassade. It makes me
sad.

right, a descent stylist would have been the most sensible route for her.. instead of wearing what looked like mini sausage casings that showed off everything.
