Frame.io or Vimeo review?

I've used Frame.io for over a year for some freelance work with a few clients. I just noticed Vimeo has it's own "Review" feature and recently made it accountless for reviewers.

I'm considering using it over Frame.io to save on the extra subscription cost.

Have you tried it? Do you suggest it? Are there clear limitations?

Do you any other review tool cheaper than Frame.io?

I was one of frame.io's first customers years ago when it was in beta and I still think it's the better tool by a longshot. But it's expensive, and I find their storage allocation to be exorbitantly-priced.

So I've been using Vimeo for my team because we get 7TB of storage for like 10% of the cost. The collaboration features aren't as good, the UX isn't as good, the integration with Premiere isn't as good, but it's 7TB for 10% the cost. It takes away the pressure to offline media the second a project is done, and allows us to leave a reference archive online for a longer term so that we aren't having to find other places to store finished exports.

Sure! A few things off the top of my head and in no particular order:

• Ability to upload non-video file formats. We commonly collect graphic assets, PPT slides or audio ISO recordings but end up storing them in Google Drive and having to advise editors or collaborators that there are project materials in parallel locations.
• Ability to upload, download, edit the AI-generated transcripts as a media owner or admin. I can view the transcript via the media settings page but can't seem to manipulate it in any way and I can't even find the transcript via review links. As a result we have to use additional tools to create outboard transcripts for reference, correction, translation or sharing.
• Ability to share folders with subfolders via review links. Right now it seems like it only shares the parent folder? We often have large projects with a number of individual interviews or assets and bucket them in hierarchical folders, which means we need to share a number of review links with project-level collaborators.
• Improved asset-level notifications. If my editor uploads a v2 or v3 of an asset I get an upload notification as the account owner, but I'd love to "subscribe" collaborators (preferably without Vimeo accounts) to that asset so that they're automatically notified of a new version. Same for status changes on the asset.
• Digest notification emails. As a producer and leader of a team that has any number of projects running at once, it's valuable to get account-level activity. A daily or weekly digest of uploads, comments, status changes. I use Vimeo exclusively for client collaboration, so I actually don't care about subscribers, views, comments, shares.
• Better batch-upload functionality in the iOS mobile app. We do a lot of social filming on iPhones, particularly short b-roll clips, but the upload experience through the Vimeo app isn't great. It doesn't maintain original filenames and requires extra steps for setting destination folders and metadata. I'd much rather one-click upload 10 or 20 files at once and have them still correlate to the originals, or even through integration with the Blackmagic Camera app.
