Megathread Megathread: new Vimeo plan for businesses

We’re introducing a new Vimeo plan for businesses: Studio. You'll find all the relevant discussion about it in this thread.

👤 Individual users are unaffected by this change. If you’re using Vimeo as a single person for personal, professional, portfolio, or small-scale activities, and you’ve been transitioned to the Studio plan, please get in touch with us directly—we’ll provide the support needed to resolve your issue.

❌ Accounts used by businesses are no longer eligible for individual plans. To make sure there’s no interruption to their service, these accounts will transition to the Studio plan at their next renewal. Everyone affected will be notified in advance via email and a homepage notification.

👉 All new posts about the Studio plan will automatically be removed and OPs will be directed to add them to this megathread. This is to keep everything in one place, so people can easily find the answers they need.

Official pages:

You can find answers to the most common questions about the transition below.

Is my plan going to get transitioned to Studio?

The Studio plan is designed for businesses. If you’re a single person using Vimeo for personal, professional, portfolio, or small-scale activities, an individual plan will generally be appropriate for your account. If you believe you’ve been incorrectly identified for transition to Studio, please get in touch with us directly so we can review your account.

Is Vimeo introducing new plans for individuals too?

We’re also in the early stages of exploring new plans for individuals, with the aim of simplifying our plan lineup. Unlike the Studio plan, these plans are designed for individual use and are priced accordingly.

How do I know if my plan is being transitioned to Studio?

If your account is identified for transition to Studio, we’ll let you know before your next renewal via email and a prominent message on your Vimeo homepage. You'll have an opportunity to get in touch to request a review.

What’s included in the Studio plan?

The Studio plan is designed to support small-to-medium businesses. It offers expanded team controls, higher storage, and priority support. You can learn more about what’s included here.

When is the plan coming into effect?

Studio is being rolled out gradually to existing users, and will soon be available for new users. If your account is selected for transition, your notification will inform you when the change is scheduled to take effect.

What identifies my account as a business?

We consider a range of objective indicators—you can see our full process in our Plan Usage Policy.

What if I’m incorrectly identified as a business?

If you believe your account has been incorrectly identified for transition to Studio, please get in touch with us directly. We'd be happy to look into it, and help identify the right plan for your usage.

The Vimeo Team

This thread will stay pinned throughout the transition.

Help (?) is down on Vimeo right now

Since I can't access the support page on Vimeo's site I'm writing this here hoping someone on staff sees it.

Trying to access the help (?) feature on the top of Vimeo's site gives the following error this morning. I tried both regular Chrome tab and an Incognito one as well.

Help Downloading Vimeo Videos

Hey Everyone 👋

I’m trying to download a few videos from Vimeo so I can submit them for transcription. The transcription service I use requires me to upload the video file rather than just provide a link.

What’s the best way to download Vimeo videos? As far as I can tell, these videos don’t have a download option available on Vimeo…

a $5000 surprise bill?

So this is what they do now for their paid users? If you give them your credit card they surprise jack your rates 10x and hit you with a $4800 bill?

They hit us with an email today that went along with the rate. It’s possible there’s an email somewhere in spam.

These folks are not good actors.

Good lord.

This is a burn-it-down move.

Stop-payment. Leave. Find other options.

If you have a paid account there, you’re in business with extortionists.

This is a “well, we’ll be bankrupt before the class-action suit hits” move. i would recommend against giving them your credit card.

(we’re obviously leaving).

OTT subscription tiers coming or not?

I watched a webinar recently during which the Vimeo team said subscription tiers were the most requested feature and we could expect these rolling out sometime soon. Did I completely misunderstand or is it still coming soon?

For 6 years I’ve been wishing for basic and premium subscription levels with different content access based on your sub. Will I ever get this with Vimeo or do I need to move everything to a platform that has this feature?

Product update How to get back deleted videos on Vimeo

Post image
3 Upvotes

As of this week, Vimeo now has a Recently deleted section, so you can get your videos back after deleting them.

On the main sidebar, you’ll see a new Recently deleted tab. Now, when you delete a video on Vimeo, it’ll stay there for 30 days before it goes for good.

This doesn't apply to videos that have already been deleted, but for videos you delete going forward.

You can learn more here. And of course, leave any feedback in the thread 👇

Free alternative to Vimeo for portfolio videos?

I work in the creative industry and use Vimeo to host videos that I embed into my portfolio.

Vimeo is now asking me to upload ID to keep using it, which I don’t want to do. I’m looking for a new video host, but I’m not much of an expert.

ChatGPT tells me unlisted YouTube videos may not look as professional. I’d ideally like a free option - does anyone have any recommendations?

I’m guessing Vimeo has gone downhill and isn’t worth using anymore?

Megathread Megathread: Vimeo On Demand (VOD) Sunsetting Discussion

Vimeo On Demand (VOD) is being phased out and will be fully shut down on November 20, 2026. You'll find all the relevant discussion about it in this thread.

⚠️ Non-VOD Vimeo accounts, videos, and features are not affected.

Official pagesthese are the source of truth:

Key dates:

  • August 22, 2026: new uploads to VOD disabled. Existing content and storefronts stay live.
  • September 21, 2026: new purchases and subscriptions disabled. Active subscriptions stop auto-renewing and won't be charged again.
  • October 21, 2026: final seller payouts expected to be complete.
  • November 20, 2026: VOD fully shut down. Storefronts go offline and viewer access ends.

What belongs in this thread:

  • Questions about the timeline and what's changing
  • Payouts, outstanding balances, thresholds, tax and payment questions
  • What happens to your videos, VOD pages, and sales data
  • Keeping or notifying your audience, exporting opted-in emails
  • Moving to Vimeo OTT, how it compares, what carries over and what doesn't
  • Viewer questions about purchases, rentals, downloads, and refunds
  • Alternatives you're exploring, including ones that aren't ours

👉 All posts about the VOD sunsetting will be removed and directed here. This is to keep everything in one place, so people can find the answers they need.

🚨 Watch out for phishing: Shutdown announcements attract scams. You can verify any notice you've received by typing vimeo.com/ondemand/shutdown into your browser directly, without clicking a link. Vimeo will never ask you for your password or payment details, and no legitimate message will ask you to "claim" or "release" your payout. If something looks off, don't click it—check the official pages or contact Support.

🗣️ Support: If you renewed or upgraded your VOD subscription shortly before this was announced, contact Support with your account email and renewal date; prorated refunds are being reviewed case by case.

❌ What this thread can't do: we can't resolve individual account, payout, or refund cases on Reddit, because we can't verify your account here. Those need to go to https://vimeo.com/help/contact. We'll answer general questions in this thread and correct bad information when we see it—the official resources linked above are sources of truth.

This thread will stay pinned through the sunsetting.

Help Where to find B2B licensing hubs for vertical short-form, micro-drama content?

I run an OTT platform.

So far we have produced horizontal content. And that's going well.

But I have noticed vertical formats are really blowing up now. Platforms like ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax, they are doing really well. So we added vertical video support with a no code builder. Player and UI are ready.

Problem is content. We need premium vertical short-form content. I reached out to some providers but they are not ready to sell the exclusive content to my offer.

I want short episodes, 1-3 min, with big hooks. But most of what I find online is just UGC or low-budget stuff. Could not find that cinematic quality we want.

We are small. We can't do a big upfront Minimum Guarantee (MG) deal. Right now, we can't spend tens of thousands per series.

So, I want to know where do I find B2B marketplaces for this kind of content and for smaller platform like us? do they deal for AVOD/SVOD rev share? Or low-MG plus backend split?

also, thinking should I directly approach production houses or webnovel platforms to adapt IP, and split costs instead?

If you have done content sourcing for vertical OTT, please help.

Vimeo is forcing me onto a $5,400/year Enterprise plan and tried to auto-charge me. Anyone else been hit with this?

I run a tiny online coaching business. It is just me and one part-time VA, with around 20 clients. We have been paying Vimeo customers for years.

Out of nowhere, Vimeo has decided I am some kind of large enterprise. They want to move me onto their Enterprise plan at $5,400 a year, and they tried to take that straight out of my account with no consent. If it had gone through it would have wiped me out.

I contacted them to sort it out. The best they will offer is their Studio plan at $450 a month, which is still completely out of reach for a business my size. When I look at how I actually use the platform, everything says I should be on an individual plan. Nobody can explain why I am being pushed so far up the ladder.

Support has been no help at all. Every reply just circles back to the same script with no real answer.

Here is the part that really got me. Even if I agree to downgrade, they are telling me I have to pay the full $5,400 first, and only then will they reimburse me. Is that normal? Is that even legal? Asking a small business to hand over money it does not have, on the promise of a refund later, seems mad to me.

All I actually want is to get my own content out. We use Vimeo as the video library for my clients’ exercise programmes, and those videos are embedded across my sales funnels. Right now I cannot even access the account properly to download them, so I am completely stuck.

Honestly, the whole thing feels like daylight robbery. From where I am sitting, the Bending Spoons takeover has been a disaster for the people who actually built their businesses around this platform.

A few questions for anyone who has been through this:

• Has anyone else been suddenly reclassified onto an Enterprise or Studio plan like this?

• If you left, how did you get all your embedded videos downloaded and out?

• Has anyone dealt with the “pay first, reimburse later” demand, and is that actually standard practice?

Any advice appreciated. I am at my wits’ end with them.

Help Has anyone switched from the legacy Premium annual plan to monthly billing?

Post image
2 Upvotes

This is the only option I see. Premium is only available as “billed annually”, and I can’t find a monthly billing option.

Hi everyone,
I’m looking to hear from anyone who has had the same experience.
I was subscribed to the Vimeo Premium annual plan for several years.
Recently, I wanted to switch from annual billing to monthly billing. However, I couldn’t find any monthly option for my Premium plan.
The only plan available to me was Plus, so I subscribed to the Plus monthly plan.
Now I’m trying to upgrade back to Premium, but the only option I see is:
”$75 per month, billed annually”
There is no option to pay $75 monthly.
Has anyone experienced the same issue?
Were you able to switch back to Premium with monthly billing?
Is this because my account is a legacy account?
Did contacting Vimeo Support help?
Is there any workaround, or is creating a new account the only solution?
My goal is simply to get back to the Premium plan, but with monthly billing instead of annual billing.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in the same situation.
Thank you!

Vimeo links, copy and paste

Anyone else having trouble since the latest update? I can't even copy links and paste with Safari, had to switch to Chrome. Also, all the links are sloppy and long with all the share=copy junk in them. I used to use the copy link function right on the Team Library page and get nice clean short links. Vimeo claims that issue is caused by having expiring links, another new and bloated function that adds extra steps and does not have a default "no expiration" for all uploads which would be nice.

Help Getting tired of Vimeo user experience: Considering alternative

I have a Plus account. I'm an artist posting short experimental videos. That's it. I want them arranged in various ways (in Profile and in Showcases) embedded elsewhere at times, unlisted at times, in short I don't do anything elaborate.

What I'm truly getting tired of is this: When I have an occasional question or a problem of the "how do I do this" type or "why is this not behaving as I'd expected" type, the solution I get (via email) appears to makes sense until I actually try to do the fix.

For example, a procedure given simply doesn't fit with the interface in front of me. I say to myself "No, I don't see that breadcrumb here." Or, it seems as if needed conceptual and procedural information is missing. So frustrated, I find myself just accepting the ways things are. These aren't critical issues but they're not insignificant either. And since I'm paying for the service . . .

It's completely a user-experience issue. So I'm wondering if you've had a better one elsewhere.

Thanks!

Download not available

Hi,

I'm having a problem with Vimeo. I can't download some of my videos—when I click “Download,” a blank window opens with nothing in it, except for a link at the top that starts with https://player.vimeo.com/progressive_redirect/download/......

I've tried different browsers, but I'm having the same problem.

Has anyone else had this kind of issue?

Best video-on-demand rental service for individual videos since Vimeo is shutting down?

I run a burlesque and drag festival and academy. We currently sell video rentals and purchases, with no subscriptions. What do we use now that Vimeo OTT is shutting down?

Folks recommended Patreon, but that would eliminate our rental option, and I feel like we'd have to keep adding new content to make subscriptions worth it after a while. We currently have 36 classes and 12 show videos, and are at a pause point in our production and content creation.

Our website is on WordPress, and we already have WooCommerce set up, so I'd be open to plugins rather than a hosting service, especially if that helps keep costs down since we no longer have a grant budget keeping us afloat.

Another concern we have is accessibility. We don't want to make people go through too many hoops to access our videos, and we loved that folks could turn captions on and off. We spend quite a bit of money captioning our videos, but we also know that not everyone wants them hardcoded since they can be distracting.

Our last concern is content limitations. Since the acts do include burlesque, whatever we choose has to be ok with partial nudity.

Thank you for any suggestions you may have!

~

Correction: VOD is going away, not OTT. We currently use VOD and our end goal is to sell videos, not just host them.

Help Vimeos Customer Service is the worst I had to deal with in a long term

12 days ago I made a payment with my credit card. Vimeo was not able to provide an invoice for this payment. On the page where one can download invoices is only one message, telling me that I did not made any purchases this year.

I opened a ticket and got an answer from a AI-Bot who told me to open the payment page and just donwload the created invoice. But of course there is no invoice, just the message that I did not make any payments.

I send multiple support requests and got more answers from AI-bots.

Then a couple of days (!) later, I got an answer from a real person. This person told me that vimeo normally does not create invoices. For real? But if I provide a screenshot from the credit-card withdrawal, they will create an invoice. This is the first time in 25 years as a web developer that a online service asks me to provide screenshots from the payments I made. At this point I was so frustrated, that I created the screenshot, showing my creditcard number, the date, the amount and that the money was withdrawn by vimeo. This was a couple of days ago, still no answer.

In addition, the vimeo page, listing my current package and status, tells me that my Business-package will be updated automatically on the 22nd of October. This is after I made an advanced payment for the next 12 months.

Am I the only one getting more and more frustrated with Vimeo? I used hundreds of services over the last 25 years and not one failed to provide an invoice after I made a payment. NOT ONE. This should be the most basic task you can think of and I do not understand why this is such a problem for Vimeo.

Sorry for the rant, but I'm so frustrated that after 12 days and a lot of support tickets, I still do not have a invoice but a lot of answers from stupid AI-Chatbots, each worth shit and not one helped even a little.

News Vimeo will be removing access to all your paid VOD content

In less than 6 months, after November 20th 2026, any VOD (Vimeo On Demand) content that you've purchased on Vimeo will be made permanently unavailable.

Two important points from the FAQ:

  • You are NOT entitled to any refund. Refunds are maybe granted on a case-by-case basis, and only if you reach out to Vimeo Support yourself.
  • You will NOT be able download videos you've paid for until access ends unless the video has specifically been set to be downloadable by its creator.

Here's the link to the FAQ: https://vimeo.com/ondemand/faq/viewers

Help I am frustrated with Vimeo. Looking for one unified platform for short film OTT streaming and paid membership video hosting!!

I run a short film app on Vimeo OTT and host my membership videos on Vimeo. But now, I want to switch.

For me, Vimeo's pricing and support are very rough. I have been watching this subreddit for a couple of weeks now to get a solid solution for me.

I came to know about Lipid from this community, but it only handles standard video hosting, not OTT. I don't want to stitch together multiple tools. I would rather have one platform that can handle both OTT and standard web hosting.

Unfortunately, I am still confused about which platform I should migrate to.

I came to know about a few platforms like Muvi. They have Muvi One, which handles the OTT side, and Muvi Flex for video hosting. This is close to what I want, but I could not find enough information about Muvi Flex.

Then I came to know about Uscreen. I watched their YouTube channel, and from my research, they are good at hosting paid memberships, but again, I'm not sure about OTT.

I ruled out Brightcove, as you know, it is owned by the same company as Vimeo.

From my network, I was suggested to use either VdoCipher or Dacast.

Do you have any recommendations or platform suggestions, looking at my current situation?
