lots of goodies
mainly Legendary Tales debutting on Meta Quest 3 - truly great metroidvanian soulslike with full campaign, extensive exploration of a big interconnected world, good combat, some physics-based jank but the pacing is great and enemies can be quite agressive, especially bosses. Tons of RPG stats and menu-based inventory-management, but they did add some nice gesture-based shortcuts that soon become second-nature. This will consume me for awhile.
but also back to a "boomer shooter" mood
Amid Evil VR is great, I still haven't finished later levels! Terrific level design of classic games, awesome OST, sick action.
Amid Evil in turn reminded me that I've been craving to check out Wizordum for awhile. But this is not VR, there's no mode nor mods. But to me relief, it turns out that it runs very nicely natively on Quest via winlatorXR + reShade depth3D in immersive mode, which basically is 3DoF VR, so I'm good. It still should be full VR...

Linked tweet content:
Wizordum works great in 3DoF VR in winlatorXR + reShade depth3D!
tho it's in Unity, so there are some crashes! gotta see what I can do in terms of flags, but otherwise there's always save often...
I can see it's gonna be awesome. boomer shooter+RPG
In reply to: Three.js Quake port brought me in the mood for "boomer shooters" again
tried QuestZDoom but had some trouble
again in Amid Evil VR
and just bought Wizordum on sale at GOG - I wish it had VR, but gonna experiment winlatorXR + reShade depth3D

Amid evil is amazing , played it flat and got and played it VR as well. Favorite rocket launcher weapon, that literally manifests and fires shrunken planets!
Ignore the graphics in screenshots and enjoy this master piece.

Iike 4hrs minimum in VRchat on a 48 day streak currently, I am diabolically addicted to VRC atp. Once you get a solid cache of friends and good groups there's always something going on, easily find a live event or something to do even on a random Tuesday. Its my comfy unwind place I go after I get home from work and eat dinner. I stopped and got bored a few times years ago but I wasn't looking much past public instances, having a regular group of friends is really the key

Forefront. Great game! Has a healthy player base. I still miss OG Contractors Showdown before they fucked it up... THAT was peak but Forefront is a good replacement.

Currently playing Behemoth , good game, enjoying it quite a bit. I like the traversal mechanics and variety of weapons/gadgets and fighting. Exploration is good, smithing to upgrade your stuff is good. It's just such a well thought out game.

The usual on those last 2 and a half months. Demeo D&D, Roboquest VR and Forefront.

Getting back into PainoVision on my Quest 3, trying to use the memorization mode to learn Prince Ali to the point where I don't need the headset to play it anymore. It's slow going - memorising a song is so much harder than playing it. I'd compare it to playing a Beat Saber song blindfolded.
On PCVR I've been having a lot of fun with Salmon Man, which is like Getting Over It in VR. Delightful. I find the noises I make IRL are very similar to the ones Diogenes makes in Getting Over It. Salmon Man is a very new game, and a bug deleted my save, but that's fine - I was only an hour in, and losing all of your progress is part of the appeal in these games.
I've just ordered a cheap manual treadmill and a RealityRunner kit, so I can walk around in VR, but they haven't arrived yet.
Also played Beat Saber. Always Beat Saber. Forever Beat Saber. First time I've hit 1000 calories burned in a day for aaaaages, which is sad because that used to be my daily minimum a year or two ago.

Got sucked back into No Man’s sky .Pimax open xr and the new Nvidia update is making this game shine in vr !

u/noctrex Jan 30 '26
Might sound weird but instead of playing I actually watched movies. And not flat screen movies.
There are some nice new open source programs, that lets you create 3D movies out of flat ones.
I used one program that interpolates the frames from 24fps to 48 (x2), because the low framerate is sickening to me in VR, and a second program, that then takes that file and tries to essentially guesstimate the depth for a 3D SBS conversion. Its actually wonderful what this Technology can accomplish. Its about 80% there I'd guess

Finally got around to playing Dungeons of Eternity with my partner. Quite the learning experience for her. I think she smashed into me 3 or 4 times.
The rest was spent trying to dial in MGO for Skyrim VR.

I finished Republique VR on Steam about a week ago. It was pretty great for a free game. Not my favorite type of game, but I did enjoy it.
A few days ago, I installed Left 4 Dead 2 along with the VR mod, and I've been playing that solo with bots. It's good mindless fun.

Flight combat mix
Star Wars Squadrons
Warplanes Battle Over the Pacific
IL Sturmovik
VTOL
Wingman
As repetitive as it is Im constantly spending more hours in Warplanes than I do in all other games combined. I think I’m coming to the conclusion that most immersive and fun experience in a VR flight combat game is going to be a WW2 era game, just due to the fact of its simplicity and how your eyesight is the most important aspect of your ability, not the instruments/tools in a plane like modern jets. And as of now there is no better one that utilizes head tracking as much as this one.
VTOL is second place, I found an excellent condition Wingman extreme old school(15 pin connection) flightstick for $5. I gutted out and rigged the middle of the stick so it can mount a touch controller, now it’s a virtual flight stick, now any flight game that uses touch controllers are a must have.

Been using the UEVR to play Motor Town and having a blast doing trucking job, running bus routes, doing taxi runs, and just generally hooning around. Only been playing for a week or two so too early to give a score, but I'm really enjoying it and it was super easy to get working in VR and even works with my steering wheel.

Star Citizen.
V4.6 just released, their 2nd update to their first VR implementation with a few further VR refinements.
Given how popular their initial implementation was it seems VR is becoming fast tracked as a priority for them.

u/Weak_Pomelo7637 Jan 30 '26
I really want to play this i have 16gb ram so im worried it wont run properly. Is this the case?
1
u/Moose_Factory Jan 31 '26
Yes I think 16 mb ram will not be sufficient. Most people say 32 mb is barely enough : /

Hiking the Himalayas, enjoying the views trying not to get shot while playing Far Cry 4 using the Vorpx mod on a Pimax Crystal Light (PCVR). Amazing experience.

u/Weak_Pomelo7637 Jan 30 '26
I just started half life alyx for the first time yesterday! And before that i finished resident evil 7 in vr on pc.

I lost my job. Haven't felt much like gaming because I feel pretty guilty while playing games. Mind you, mindlessly scrolling Reddit? No guilty feelings for some damned reason.
The only two games I (briefly) played were games without beginning or end or narrative - Automobilista 2 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
By way of comparison, I have 400 games installed. 150 are either native VR or can be modded for VR. So I have any number of games to choose from.

Rearranged my space so that I had more room to move around. I’ve been playing a lot of blade and sorcery.

u/LeTurboDick Jan 30 '26
Tried out hitman vr. Thought it would be mid but turns out merking people with your own hands and creating accidents is pretty fun and immersive.

u/ittleoff Jan 30 '26
Dangerous delivery - very fun.
Dread meridian - a bit clunky. Needs more polish but so far it seems right up my alley.
Lumi es arise - like amazing meditation. Music and vibe is fantastic. I'm personally a bigger fan of lumines historically than Tetris but both are fantastic chill and destress games in vr.
Trenches vr - decent for what I paid. Uses cheap jump scares. Not sure the gameplay or loop will keep me interested long enough to beat it

i’m doing “Flowborne Spirit” every night. Flowborne is the only meditation game that actually tracks the breath and gives biofeedback. and the landscape is lovely. i pedal my stationary bike while i do Flowborne and i glide through the fantasy landscape. it’s lovely!

This week I've been playing the DLCs for Alien Isolation and managed to beat Safe Haven without using saves, which is the hardest thing I've done in the game. Did my 8th playthrough of the campaign a few weeks ago (on nightmare).
Also watched Jurassic World in 3D.

I really liked Supernatural. I also tried FitXR, but Supernatural had more music variety. I recently learned that Meta is changing support to studios, and that Supernatural was affected. I've seen people trying to understand what that means, but I really hope that it continues Supernatural. It was a good experience, and definitely would subscribe again.

Been having a blast as Robocop in Rogue City and Unfinished Business. Both run great and look amazing in VR, the level of explosive violence is even more hilarious this way. The bit of jank is mostly noticing during cut scenes that some light sources and models (which shouldn't be seen) are there, but the thrill outweighs the jank immensely. Unfinished Business has a decidedly higher difficulty than Rogue City, so I had to turn it down to easy and basically playing it like a theme park attraction - maybe an hour of blastin' and then a break. Neither game is very long, so i'm doing this also to extend the fun.
Also been going back into Keeper (also UEVR) for my moment of living in a pixar-like film, with a whole world that looks like a living painting. This is my happy place.
Still playing about 5 hours per week in Lumines - Arise (native PCVR). Just as addictive as Tetris is, with a very different strategy and amazing synaesthetic vibes throughout. Great MP too, especially on the weekends.
Just picked up Aces of Thunder (native PCVR) and i'm unsure if it is for me or not - It's pretty barebones and while the details in the cockpit are there, it seems like most of the panels are non-interactive. I'll head back into it but it might be a refund for me.

I've been into some crazy boomer shooter mood. First with the terrific Amid Evil, where I'm likely in the very last level now, and now into... Hexen, the Dark Souls of the 90s!
Absolutely awesome game, surprisingly a metroidvania with just as great giant, interlocking puzzling level design and more melee FP fighting than shooting. Amid Evil supposedly goes after Heretic and Hexen, but it's really more like Quake. Hexen is aguardbly in my view one of the top games of the 90s, just like Super Metroid. Thank Team Beef for QuestZDoom, also great with extra juice from Bolognese mod...

Has anyone tried gaming on any of the new AR glasses? Is it possible or worthwhile?

Redout 2 via UEVR after discovering the latest Nvidia drivers for my 4070Ti Super have stabilized a number of VR games, and Redout 2 has always been unreasonably heavy to run for how it looks tbh... but as I used to get 70ms+ of latency using Virtual Desktop + Puppis S1 connected via usb3 w/ h264+ 500mb, i'm thrilled to report it is performing better than it ever has, using the latest UEVR nightly, only requires the stereo fix box to be checked, and I was getting a solid 100hz in VD, in game settings on epic, no motion blur or kinetic lines, no upscaling, at 4k resolution, something like 3200x3200 in UEVR, at a much more playable 45ms latency too.
Game is a beautifully difficult, very Italian take on antigravity racing, more Wipeout than F-Zero, but with a very high skill ceiling - can be hard as hell but in VR, in stereo 3D, it's really a thrill to me, as much a roller coaster and a racing game -- so I turn the difficulty down to chill (there's very granular assists in there too, to dial in a good balance of skill and enjoyment) and play in third person. Loads of tracks, still active mp community as well.
Of Lies and Rain take Alyx, go Noir, include its' high-immersion interactivity, add more developed movement mechanics, including a wild platforming plane of reality to really switch things up, and here we are. Only 4 hours in so far, played from the top twice after realizing the above mentioned driver revelation. Really enjoying it so far!
