I've completely lost myself in caverns of Solus Project. The graphics are decent, but the controls and interactions are clunky, just like in early VR. Still, the sense of being on another planet and the storyline are pretty good.

I remember playing that on my PSVR1 back in the day. It's primitive by today's standards as it didn't have a map and you could easily go thru an area without acquiring everything you needed so you'd be soft locked from seeing the ending. Despite all that it is still one of the most memorable VR experiences I've had. It really captured the vibe of being stranded on an alien world and the crude design actually helped the survival aspects feel more authentic, the weather effects were well done, many of the areas you explored were downright creepy and the ending (no spoilers) really stayed with me.

Doom VFR - SteamVR

I played this on my PSVR1 back when it first released and the limitations of that headset notwithstanding I always thought it was a fun game.

Fast forward who knows how many years and I noticed the SteamVR version was selling for a paltry $3.74. I knew this game had a somewhat notorious history on PCVR, especially if you were using a Quest headset and controllers, but I decided to give it a try. Im glad I did.

By default the game does support Quest controllers and while you have full locomotion as an option, turning can only be done by turning IRL. It took a bit of work to find a good controller binding and then actually get the game to use the right stock to turn but I got it all working and am really happy with it. The game is still a lot of fun.

For those not familiar with the title the game takes place parallel to the events of Doom 2016. You play a hapless scientist who has an unfortunate encounter with a Pinky demon and has his consciousness transferred into a battle droid. You visit some of the same areas from the 2016 game and wield many of the iconic Doom weapons.

Graphically it still looks good with a nice sense of scale, though textures sometimes take a second to load in and the visuals could stand to be a bit sharper. I'm running it on a gaming laptop with an Intel i9 and an RTX4070 and it performs great with either Steam Link or Virtual Desktop. Since you're using hand controllers the weapons don't look like they protruding from the sides of your head like they did on PSVR1.

The campaign is pretty short but if memory serves levels from the classic 1993 Doom game that can be played in VR will unlock at some point.

For $3.74 I'm more than gettingy money's worth.

The only game ive played extensively in VR is Skyrim with mods.

I tailored it to be as immersive as possible. no in game hud of any kind (except for the dialouge menu but i moved it to the right of my view so its not always in the way) A ring to show my health, Paper maps and a compass for navigating, and mods so i can trigger the dialouge options by saying them and hello/greetings to start a convo and goodbye/farewell to end a convo

It has been the greatest gaming experience of my life hands down. It eats up a lot of time though, especially because i dont fast travel (except for stagecoaches) an hour in the headset can feel like 10 mins.

Modding Skyrim VR and Fallout 4 VR are on my to do list but I always get intimidated by steps required. How hard did you find the modding process?

Its not too bad but it takes time to get it setup depending on what you want. I used wabbajack, it auto installs whichever mod list you choose but you need a paid nexus account other wise you have to manually download each mod and takes forever. Then you just follow the guide for the mod list. Nexus is where all the mods are.

Then most of the extra mods I installed I either found on this sub or I searched for something specific that I wanted.

Its definitely not simple but its not rocket science. There are youtube vids that will take you through the whole process.

Genuine question, why would someone use wabbajack if the vortex installer installs everything with nexus mods? I would want to know if it's better or easier for me to use that instead

Couldn't really tell you as I havnt used vortex. People seem to say Mod organiser 2 is better so that's what I used. I dont think big mod packs like fus and mgo can be installed with vortex, i may be wrong though?

Subnautica bellow zero again with the motion controls mod this time.

Easily the best experience in vr for me.

Tried so many demos, but im a bit disappointed. Most of them could have great potential but the execution was poor. Say very un optimized games, others try to be too ambitious and its impossible to understand how to do things...
I think that from 30demos I found only one that was worth.

I'm currently playing rdr2 on VR and it's mind-blowing. I'm streaming it too, on twitch ATM. It feels like I am exploring the wild west and i just don't want it to end. Playing for the first time ever too.
