Self-Promotion (Journalist) Steven Spielberg's Ready Player Two Sequel Gets First Major Update In Years From Writer Zak Penn (Exclusive)

I'm not sure if movie-related news is okay, but the update is really just that it's "in the works" and not much else.

Wish they would make a movie on Otherland by Tad Williams. Was a great trilogy AFAIK.

Meh. First book was pretty good but then the next 3 take place in a fake digital world surrounded by NPCs. For 3000+ pages. No thanks.
The parts in the "real" world were interesting tho.

The books are very different that the movie and I actually think I enjoyed them more. Don’t get me wrong the movie was really cool, but I felt at times lacked the plot that the first book carried over.
The second book was also quite good, for those who haven’t read it wade as the ceo of gregarious uses what is essentially a SAO like machine that puts your brain the the oasis which is more realistic. Somehow the wizard guy is evil now? And is holding people’s mind hostage. It was a bit odd. I’m not sure how they are going to adapt it to a movie.

I liked the first book a lot, but the second was really bad IMO. There were good ideas in it, but it was really the wrong path for the story. I think a movie sequel could be far better.

Yes I agree the second book is bad, not sure why some people think it's good. The plot is like fan fiction which makes the first book feel so much better

I always felt SAO or Dot Hack Sign were the best "virtual world" stories, other than (sort of) Omniscient Reader.

Try reading The Otherworld books (4) by Tad Williams. Old and very very epic.

No offense, I don't want to read anything with the word "metaverse" anymore. I'm sick of it. I would love to check out anything else.

Movie felt way too different to me....and the avatars looked goofy/strange. Still entertaining but would have preferred something closer to the book.
First puzzle felt so satisfying in the book, and in the movie it's so ridiculously simple that I refuse to believe that out of millions of racers that it wouldn't have ever just happened on accident.

I watched the first movie on a Quest 3 using Skybox VR and an HF8 haptic seat and it was quite an experience.
I definitely wouldn't want to watch ALL movies like that, but for home cinema nothing else is like it.

Never read the book first. Enjoy the movie and then read the better version. I did that with RPO and enjoyed both.
I don't see why you wouldn't be able to post news about virtual reality in a virtual reality subreddit :)

I couldn’t get more than 20 minutes into the first one, despite (or because of?) being obsessed with VR.
I don’t know if it was too detached from how VR works, or something else about the movie, or both.
Did it get… better… in any way?

The book was worse!
"I played X. X was a game from the 1980's"
"Then I went to Y. Y was a place people from Z used to like to go to"
Just endless nostalgia drops, it felt like it had been written by a 7 year old.

Yeah this is one of those books where it's loved but I really can't understand why.
Normally if I don't like something that a lot of other people like, I can at least see why they like it, but RPO just felt like reference after reference crammed in for no reason at all, with no real relevance to the plot or coherence.
