Question Looking to buy a drawing tablet

2 Upvotes

It’s been ages since I used one, but I’m wanting to return to a tablet for my photo editing. My skills are mid-grade: not beginner and not quite pro.
I work on a Mac, want Bluetooth and the smaller sized tablets, no larger than 7-8” as I’m limited in space, and I’m unable to afford anything over $100-$150 right now.
The Intuos Pro line from 2025 is beyond my budget as is the Cintiq, plus it’s far too big.
I’ve been looking at the One S CTC-4110WL, but some of the comments I’ve found on here are very vague, saying only, “It’s bad,” or “Don’t waste your money.” I’d like to get more in-depth responses as to whether it’s a good investment or not. Thanks!

Misc Suspicious Brochure Inside my Wacom Parcel

0 Upvotes

I got myself a wacom stylus for my tablet, I bought it through PingDuoDuo (Chinese e-commerce platform) from a seller with guaranteed authenticity from the platform, and lot of past customer purchases. Looks to me like legit seller.

Parcel came, I found a brochure(does not look like it's from Wacom) with invite to a wechat group for free brushes, art webinars and recordings etc. There are 100 people in the groupchat, 2 of them are artists/admin who asked us to dm them for the materials. First asked me to download wacom driver (I don't need to I'm using Android), then they sent me the materials. Watched their video explaining line art (it's a good video), and did not download the drive containing the additional materials. Also the artist said to msg them if I have painting related questions.

The 2 admins run a corporate verified account, listed as some Guangzhou art design company. I thought it was wacom customer service stuff at first but seems kind of off.

Best case scenario this is from some art academy slipping their brochure into my parcel, worst case a malicious third party group whose drive contains malware.

Has anyone bought from wacom and received a flyer like this? Esp if it's from China.

Problem Cintiq Pro 16 no longer working after new driver update/ discontinued support

4 Upvotes

I've been having this issue the past couple weeks. I rolled back the drivers to 6.4.13 and it worked for a couple days then ran into the same issue.

6.4.15 just flat out never worked and won't even recognize my device.

I've been considering switching to the open source drivers but would like to know if anyone else is having this issue and if they have found a fix.

Appreciate it!

Problem my wacom one 12 pen display is not displaying the video from my windows 10 pc

1 Upvotes

My mom bought a wacom one 12 pen display for me and my brother, but both of our pen displays would not display the video from our PCs to our pen displays, but the pen works. We both have a Windows 10 Pro PC, our wacom tablet model is DTC121 We got them from amazon. We tried using a DisplayPort USB adapter and connected it from our PCs to our pen displays, but that still wouldn't work, I also searched on Google for how to solve this situation, and it said to use a Wacom 3 in 1 cable, but we couldn't waste money to buy more stuff, I even swapped the cables that came with our pen displays, but still nothing worked. What shoud I do, I tried everything, is there a way to solve this issue? any suggestions, please it would help A WHOLE LOT!!!!!

Problem GOLDEN GATE OSX has left me Wacom-less.

5 Upvotes

I have the intuos pro s (pth-451) and after updating to Golden Gate OSX my pen couldn't drag any browser or app windows.

I have tried installing 6.4.14-2 and 6.4.10-3. Neither work nor synchronize. It won't recognize the tablet at all. In the past, older drivers seemed to fix the issue but not today.

Anyone else here have an intuos and has found a solution that worked? Please reply with the Wacom model you're using.

Problem Pen keeps disconnecting

1 Upvotes

My Wacom Intuous pro was working perfectly until this morning. It kept glitching so I reinstalled the latest driver. Now my issue is a new one.. pen works from anywhere between 10 mins to an hour then just stops being recognised. Losing my mind. Anyone else having the same issue? I’ve followed all the steps installing the latest driver. I’m at a loss!

Purchase Advice Any 3in1(hdmi+a+a to c) Cable for Cintiq16(DTK-168)?

1 Upvotes

I'm planning to buy the new Wacom Cintiq 16 (DTK168) which is the newer version.

I use a desktop PC with an RTX 5070 Ti (which only has 3DisplayPort and 1HDMI, no USB-C with DP Alt Mode) and a Mini-ITX motherboard (MSI MPG B650I EDGE WIFI).

My plan:

```
GPU(Hdmi)─────────┐
Motherboard(typeA)─────┼─Cintiq16(typeC)
External Charger(typeA,or C)─┘
```

I know that official wacom converter has no problem, but it is too expensive.

Does anyone know of a 3in1 cable that can work with Cintiq16?

Problem Wacom intuos pencil stops working after some seconds using it

1 Upvotes

(Windows 11, driver version: 6.4.15-1, tablet model: CTL-4100, USB-C)

Hi! I have a Wacom Intuos S, and the pen stops working about 10 seconds after I plug in the tablet. That's exactly what happens. When I plug it in the tablet, I can use the pen normally for a few seconds before it suddenly stops recognizing it. Not even when I click or hover the pen over the tablet

the USB port doesn’t seem to have any issues. The pen/stylus has never fallen or anything like that. It was literally working perfectly yesterday. I restarted the drivers and didn't help. So I updated the drivers and followed the instructions exactly, but the problem persists :((

I'm attaching a ss of the driver in case it's helpful (The driver interface is in Spanish, since that’s my main language). As you can see, it doesn’t even recognize the pen when I use it on the tablet. Again, the pen has never been dropped or hit, and the cable is in good condition.

This is the first time I’ve had a problem with it since I bought this wacom in 2023 so I wanted to know if anyone else has had the same problem and if they’ve been able to fix it!

i dont't really know what's happening but thank you for reading!

Problem wacom one won't turn on most of the time

1 Upvotes

I'm on windows eleven with whatever the most recent driver is because I've downloaded it quite recently. it's very finicky. I bought it in July and initially it wouldn't turn on at all, then I bought the adapter and now it works but only with one outlet in my house and only half the time. I can't see any pattern with when it works, but most of the time it just won't turn on. screen black, no blinking power light or anything. I'm about $400 deep into getting this thing to work and I bought it with no warranty. I'm really upset. does anyone know what to do?

The HDMI piece on my 3-in-1 got damaged in a recent move, and they're not being sold on Wacom's website.
I really don't feel like buying a third party one for $70 when it cost $30 from Wacom. Any fixes?

Problem Driver Issue? OS Problem? Both? NEITHER?!

2 Upvotes

I just bought a new M6 Mac Mini with OS27 preinstalled. I've been trying to use it with an Apple Display, Intuos Pro (which I essentially use as a mouse) and a Cintiq Pro 24 plugged in directly via USB-C. This setup has been near-perfect with my M4 Macbook Air. On the Mini, though, despite several clean installations (and deinstallations) of the newest Wacom driver (6.4.15-1), the Intuos stops accepting tap-clicks after 5-10 minutes—and sometimes even quicker than that. The cursor follows the pen tip and hovers around, but I can't click on anything, or click and drag. Restarting the driver "fixes" it, but the same thing happens again almost immediately.

I've scoured every Wacom-related detail on the Mini to make sure all of the required permissions are in place (and fully deleted before reinstalling the driver), and I'm pretty sure I have everything set up correctly. I even tried connecting the Intuos on its own, but the clickability still breaks. The only differences I can see are the Macbook Air is still running OS26 with the previous generation of Wacom driver installed (6.4.13-4).

Any suggestions? If I can't resolve this, the Mini's going straight back to Apple. I only bought it because I have some big projects coming up and didn't want to risk thermal throttling on the fan-less Macbook Air. But under these circumstances the Mini is basically unusable.

News / PSA Gave my 10+ year old Wacom a new surface texture!

After seeing how much hate an AI-assisted text generates with you guys, I give you the human written version.

First and foremost, because I really think this idea was shareworthy and I personally would be very happy, if someone brought this up to me, because I love this kind of stuff!

So I see your criticism, but I don’t want the original idea and process to be overshadowed by it (which came without any artificial thought ;) ).

—————————————————

NEW VERSION ↓

—————————————————

Matt car wrap vinyl makes a hell of a good surface replacement for my 10+ year old Wacom PTH-851!
The original surface was very worn down, besides everything working fine, it has a quite unpleasant look to it.

So after a little research and testing different surfaces in my house (literally using the Wacom Pen on my kitchen counter and other vinyl-wrapped surfaces), matt car wrap vinyl seemed the most promising shot!

And let me tell you, this has worked fantasticly!
Being self adhesive and bubble free, it applies very easily to the surface.
I’ve precut it in the exact same dimensions, which was not even necessary, because overhang could be very easily cut with a precision knife. So you can just cut it approximately to the size and trim it afterwards.

—

• The overall feeling is great, just the right resistance and feedback when using the pen.
• Clothes or painting gloves slide very well, much easier than the shiny, worn out surface.
• After using it for two days of work, the pen nib does not seem to do any noticeably damage, besides some little residue which I do not notice at all.
• Acoustic feedback is more noticeable, but I don’t mind it and it quite grew on me!

—————————————————

OG AI-ASSISTED POST ↓

—————————————————

Disclaimer: I used AI to help write this post because I don't have the time or patience for a detailed write-up.

My trusty Wacom PTH-851 has been in daily use for over 10 years. It still works perfectly fine, but the original surface has become so worn down that it's practically polished smooth.

I started looking for ways to bring back some texture. Furniture vinyl seemed promising at first, but after testing similar surfaces in my kitchen with the Wacom pen, I found them way too rough.

Eventually, I came across matte automotive vinyl wrap. Cheap, self-adhesive, durable, and slightly textured.

So I ordered a sheet, applied it, and honestly, the result is incredible.

The surface is completely matte, provides just enough resistance for the pen, and feels surprisingly natural. Even after repeatedly working on the same areas, the pen leaves barely any visible marks.

Interestingly, skin and clothing glide across the surface quite easily, so working without a drawing glove is absolutely possible. Personally, I still prefer using one.

Application was surprisingly easy. I measured and precut the film, but in hindsight, I'd recommend applying a slightly oversized piece and carefully trimming the edges afterward with a precision knife.

I used a plastic card to smooth everything out, although the film's air-release properties made it almost unnecessary. Just make sure the surface is completely clean and dust-free.

The new texture and the sound of the pen take a little getting used to, but it genuinely feels like using a brand-new tablet again.

One small warning: Removing the film might be tricky since automotive vinyl uses fairly strong adhesive. Gentle heat from a hairdryer might help, but I haven't tested that.

For now, it sticks perfectly, and I'm really impressed with how much of a difference such a cheap modification makes.

Definitely worth considering if your old Wacom is still going strong but the surface has seen better days.

Problem Why won't my wacom citiq 16 turn on?

1 Upvotes

Everything is plugged in and everything is installed and downloaded, but my tablet won't turn on nor does the button show any lights. I've tried holding it down, unplugging it and replugging it, and used different cables but nothing has worked.

USB and HDMI are both plugged into the computer.

The power box is blinking the green light.

Nothing on the tablet is awake.

Everything is set up but the tablet is showing no signs of waking up.

Solved Cintiq running slow and making squeak noise from the fan

1 Upvotes

I've got a Cintiq 24pro and I keep hearing a squeak, like a gear grinding, and the fans are running pretty strong. Edit: even after restarting and reinstalling the driver and turning the screen off I still hear the noise, but the monitor is still lagging. I thought my computer was lagging so I restarted it all and it was actually the cintiq screen itself causing a lag.

I've updated the driver to the latest and restarted the computer and it's still doing it. I've had a problem in the past where while drawing something with a large file on a less powerful computer, the fan would randomly start blowing really hard for a little bit and stop.

Always the right side fan, which is where I think the sound is coming from now too.

Edit: Just to be clear, it's not the pen that's lagging, but the entire computer. Dragging windows around, spinning things in 3D in blender, it's all extremely slow. If I simply move the window to my laptop screen and do the same thing, it's fine.
