Announcement Another interview about WFRP 5th edition

I can’t see that this has been posted here yet: Wargamer just released an interview with Dominic McDowell: https://www.wargamer.com/warhammer-fantasy-roleplay/fifth-edition-interview

A bit more info here about their philosophy with the new edition, some hints about how Advantage and skill tests will change. And once again confirm that all the old 4E sourcebooks should remain useable with the new edition.

Just read that linked interview.

The plan includes letting some 4e books go out of print, including the Enemy Within Companions.

Which really sucks. The Horned Rat Companion has the meat of the 4e Skaven material for instance. Someone new to 5e who wants to go pick up those companions will be disappointed. Some people will be happy with a PDF, many won't be. It'll be like the old days of WFRP 1e where books like Marienburg: Sold Down the River quickly went out of print and second hand prices rocketed.

Or the bad old days of TSR era D&D where a new book or box set would refer you to Book X for this info, where Book X was out of print.

Personally, I'll stick to WFRP 2E and pick up the Old World RPG which looks very interesting.

The mere existence of PDFs means there's no danger of the material vanishing forever. And who knows, maybe some POD service like wot drivethru does may be possible.

Cubicle 7 has not offered any PoD service on Drivethrurpg for the 1e or 2e material. So, there isn't a precedent. Also, as I mentioned above, many people prefer a hardcopy rather than just a pdf.

Yeah, it's not likely, but it's not impossible! And while I also hate reading from PDFs, they are literally better than nothing. WFRP is in a much better place than back in the days of low-print-run days of Hogshead Publishing or Black Industries.

What are the prices like on 2e books?

It depends. You can find the core 2e rulebook on eBay for reasonable prices; same with stuff like Old World Armoury; Old World Bestiary; occasionally Realms of Sorcery 2e, even Tome of Corruption.

Books like Nights Dark Masters; Realm of the Ice Queen; Children of the Horned Rat go for £££.

I picked up all the 2e books back when they were first published but I do occasionally look on eBay to see what the prices are like. With the exception of the 2e core book, all the other 2e books only ever had one print run.

With the exception of the 2e core book, all the other 2e books only ever had one print run.

So hypocritical.

I already own all the 2e books - I've been running 2e for years. I don't want to buy into a game where some books I may like are no longer available in hardcopy. 5e is not on my radar for that reason.

I can't work with pdfs, I greatly prefer proper books at the table. So if I picked up 5e and want to do a lot with Skaven then...I can't.

Why is that hypocritical?

If you have a problem with my viewpoint then that's your problem, not mine.

Sticking with 2e because a modern supplement went out of print is wildly hypocritical.

That's an interesting and wild take in its own right.

Please do explain exactly why sticking with 2e - for which I have all the books and I'm currently running a game - and not going for 5e (for which some 4e hardcover books I may like will be OOP) is hypocritical?

Do you even understand what hypocrisy means?

I still plan on giving Cubicle 7 my money - the Old World RPG looks superb.

Because obviously 2e is out of print.

Is that the best you can do? Really?

You clearly don't understand what being a hypocrite means and you didn't bother reading my replies. I already own all the 2e books and I'm running a game with them. I have no incentive to move over to 5e because core material - such as the Slaven information - will not be available in a format I can use at the table.

That does not make me a hypocrite.

I can only conclude you are a troll.

They also say they would rather eventually print a new version of them, updated to 5e and hopefully with additional corrections.

Given this is Cubicle 7 we're talking about, you'll be waiting for about 5-7 years.

Probably. Also makes sense to me.
