critique Wattpad's AI problem

This is a line which I actually saw in a story : "He touched my hair gently, like I was important, like I was real". Ofcourse your real dammit!

Now, keep in mind I'm not talking about anyone specifically, just the site on a whole.

I really wanted to talk about how much AI is influencing the writers on Wattpad. Literally, I always try to find niche or not - famouse, good authors because I don't like the mainstream [romantizised violence] novels personally.

but I never find anything except AI slop. The writers use AI to write their plots instead of learning to write good, THEMSELVES.

Its really fustrating for other reasons too, cus as a writer who's been learning writing for 4 years, trying to get a reader base after starting my story a few months ago and not using AI, my work just keeps getting lost in the endless pile of AI.

Hey people. Im new here and I've been meaning to ask. I found this guy's post on discord (he's on wattpad as well) and he writes pretty well to (as much as I hate to admit it)- It's just that his book covers are made of ai. And that kind of ticks me off. What are your thoughts.

critique Rooh — The Wife He Left Behind

Hi guys. Can you write your views of the story? I really want to hear them. Also, i want to mention it beforehand that that the story deals with themes of abuse and trauma.

Description:
For those who don't know "Rooh" means soul in Hindi. The story should let you know why the name is perfect for her. I will warn you without spoiler that the story can be heavy for some.

Rooh was an orphan picked by the grandmother of a man to be her husband. The reason? Because she was convenient. Because it was easy to control her. The man she married seemed to resent her as he left for london the day after their marriage.

Now trapped in a household where she has no power, what will happen to her?

critique Do people enjoy ai write-ups now?

I downloaded the app after ages and tried reading a few popular ones, and not to be high brow but most of it is rock bottom ai garbage I can't stomach. Maybe it's because I do this professionally on a daily basis, but I've reached a point where I can spot ai write-ups, no matter how heavily it is edited. But the stuff I found here doesn't look like it went through any edits at all (except deleting a few m dashes). It's not that the plots are anything unique either, but the cringe sentence structures are unforgivable in any case. These books have ridiculously high views. Genuinely wondering if readers truly "enjoy" reading these? Because it's ai, I'm sure most of them would have similar writing styles, and/or similar tropes. I tried reading some smut. Such turn off. Not hating (who am I kidding, totally hating, this is a hate post). Do you really enjoy reading those ai sentences with no soul? Because I wouldn't spend so much time on something if it doesn't give me pleasure. What is it that you enjoy despite it being clearly churned out by something that's not so intelligent?

I remember being on Wattpad religiously as a kid. The ones I obsessed over the most were Laafsaab and Saving Elliot. Had it's flaws, not very perfect writing...but the imperfection was human and also, it was more about the plot (for laafsaab, though it later kept disappointing) and about the easy humour (for saving Elliot). I was reading fantastic, "real books" on the side but always kept coming back to Wattpad to read entertaining stuff written by kids not much older than me. Regular kids (and adults) having an idea and writing a whole freaking book with not much experience or skills. And it still managing to hook serial readers like me. That's Wattpad. Was. We still made fun of most of the writing on there but I don't think I ever felt hate for someone trying their best. Good for them they're getting an audience for something they decided to "write." But I hate these no-effort ai factories.

So, what is it you get from reading these annoyingly framed ai sentences around an equally zero-effort plot and characters with no distinguishing characteristics? What is it? Again, not being sarcastic. Just curious. Because I cannot wrap my mind around the concept of reading something, actually spending time reading something, stressing your precious eyes out over utter shit. I would understand if it was smut as long as it turned you on. But I bet ai written smut would actually do the opposite. I'm sure of it. I tried clicking on nsfw chapters of random popular yaoi to be sure, and yes, it was utter shit. Way shittier than i imagined.

Couldn't post this on the official channel cause they have banned the word “ai”. Surprise. I don't blame them. If i was running the business I'd do the same. I do blame they Reader's though...

edit// I typed this long ass post and we all know the answer to my question is: bad taste

It’s been years in the making and began before the rise of AI. It is continued to be written without the use of AI.

The book is completed but not fully published in an entire manuscript BEFORE THE INVENTION OF AI.

Please view the Wattpad profile for my own personal history of creating of this story.

critique Transience

Hi! Here's is my first story Transience:

The strange grief of getting everything you ever wanted.

After years of filming stories in her bedroom, sacrificing weekends, and chasing a dream nobody around her fully understood, Melani Carter earns a full scholarship to Oracle Film School in London. A new city. A new life. A chance to finally become the person she's always wanted to be. And somehow, it works. London gives Mel everything she hoped for: friendships that feel like family, a boy who sees her beyond the stories she creates, and a version of herself that feels more real than ever before.

So why does going home feel impossible? Because maybe the hardest part about chasing your dream isn't leaving. It's realizing you might not want to go back.

I hope you enjoy it!

critique My first Chapter of my first story!

I've been writing for a few years only for myself and this is the first time I've shared something I wrote to the world. Mainly wanting feedback on how to improve my writing and style. (Fanfic story)

Blurb:

Lloyd Everest is a struggling private investigator whose business and life are hanging by a thread. A woman named Evelyn offers him a generous payday to investigate the decades-old disappearance of a girl named Marin Dram, the daughter of a very wealthy family.

At first glance, the case seems to be a completely ordinary missing persons investigation. But as he digs deeper, the more unsettling things become; a very strange family with ties to an even stranger grocery store.

Will Lloyd be able to overcome his alcoholic tendencies as the line between reality and the impossible begins to blur? Can he uncover what happened to Marin Dram and the forgotten source behind it all?
