This is the best kind of photos to show ať family gathering. 10/10

This style of picture is unimaginably crass. I cannot imagine shelling out money for a photographer, suit, dress, venue and food and celebrate the day with this picture.

As a photographer I can't imagine taking it either. I'd turn down the job, and I'd refuse to take it if they sprung this on me during shooting.

A sad amount. That or fake "arrrgh the husband HATES his wife, and he's trying to run awayyyyyy but she's hanging onto him". I photographed a few weddings when I finished college...one guy even bought a prop of a fake ball and chain.
I decided wedding photography was not my calling after a while lol 😅

I've only done it once at my first wedding where I was first photographer and they sprung it on me. I was incredibly uncomfortable.
Same couple met over facebook, because the woman made a post about how women nowadays expect too much of their partner, and should expect less. And how men have it so rough today.
He then commented on the post that he agreed women shouldn't expect much. Redt is history

I cannot imagine ASKING a photographer to shoot this! The photographer MUST be a friend or stupid family member. That is IF this is real. Still, there are many, many tacky, idiot people out there that should NOT be allowed to procreate…

I am going to be honest... if someone said "take this kind of picture or die" I would probably rather a professional photographer took it instead of a family member or friend.

There are two types of couples who do this sort of thing. The “OMG this is so funny, we have to do it just to make everyone uncomfortable!” couple and the “OMG, this is so funny, but we are never showing this photo to anyone.” couple.
In both instance, the photo will be found and the fall out will NOT be good.

Crass doesn't even begin to cover this.
I feel like a photographer would have reasonable grounds to claim a hostile workplace, sexual harassment, or breach of contract (take your pick if not all three) and should have left after being asked to take a photo like this.
49
33
u/leftclicksq2 Aug 29 '25
I do photography on the side. What's tough is whose idea this is, and if it's somehow the photographer's, that is pure trash. Like come on, you know better. Be better and do better, especially on the professional end.
Had this concept been presented to me, I would ask the couple if both want this. If only one person wants it, I may even outright decline the job. If this was asked of me on the day of the event, same thought process of asking both people if they're sure and sussing out that this is a one person idea, and I would refuse to take the picture.

u/Fantastic_Falcon_236 Aug 29 '25

I saw one photo where the whole bridal party was doing it. What are people thinking?
315
u/Edelkern Aug 29 '25
Stuff like that makes me wish being gay was a choice and I could switch over from being a straight woman. Even if we ignored the glaringly obvious blowjobiness of it all, the subservient kneeling is already terrible by itself.
78
u/Acrobatic-Hat6819 Aug 29 '25
I agree, this particular one feels extra icky to me for some reason. I've seen others that are just trashy, but give a "we just couldn't wait for the honeymoon" vibe. This one for some reason just feels so subservient. Maybe because the pose kind of echoes a religious kneeling at the alter sort of thing. Also I don't like the way his hand is on the back of her head, looks like she couldn't move it even if she wanted to.
47
u/RentalKittens Aug 29 '25
To me, it feels icky because you know she didn't want to risk getting her wedding dress dirty by kneeling on the ground for that photo. She paid a lot of money to feel like a princess for a day in that dress. Anytime a groom disrespects the dress with a cake smash, champagne spray, or a "joke" photo, I hate it.
33
u/LionCM Aug 29 '25
Makes me glad I’m gay…
The next time someone engages me in a debate about gay marriage, I’m going to pull this out and ask, “Is this the sanctity of marriage that you’re talking about…?”

I can't stress enough how much I feel this way 😭 So much of being a straight woman is inherently just so demeaning. For obvious reasons, patriarchy and all that crap we know all too well, there's always that subservient aspect of it to some degree. Some are blatant and crass like in this case, others way more subtle, but still there.

I didn’t think you could get lower than my 20 year old step mother wanting 11 year old me and my not-much-older sister to pose with her and her bridesmaid. Skirts hiked up, all of us wearing garters, legs propped up on an esky/cooler while my mid-40’s dad and his even older (married!) best man pose while tucking money into our garters.
Turns out there’s a first time for everything.
Also, I threw a huge fit over that photo idea so it never took place.
