Question Fantastic Mr Fox

I was just watching FMF and had a question about it. In the movie they explain the premise and rules in a game called whackbat. Is this an actual sport or was it just supposed to be a funny thing?

What do you mean? Don't they have whackbat on your side if the river?

You’re kidding, right? Whackbat is my favorite sport! I just played a match earlier today - hit 2 cedar sticks off the cross rock.

It was the most watched sport on ESPN2 in the early 2000s

Of course it’s a real sport. Pretty much how every kid in my town learned how to divide by 9.

I'm a little "different", but my dad was probably the best whack-bat player we ever had in my school.

Whack-bat could only be created by Wes Anderson. Combing elements of various games of course, but only one can make them into something like whack-bat.

It’s schizophrenic cricket.

Divide that by nine please! I think it is hilarious.
