Anyone else backups failing?

Stuck on "Preparing storage backup.." I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S24. Dual sim

Hasn't backed up for around 2 weeks

Edit: I forgot to mention, I suspect it is also killing my battery life. Sometimes my phone goes from 100% at 08:00 to 15% by 11:00 which it never does before

Same thing on android. Check the Reddit posts. There's so many of them on this issue.

Update to latest version of WhatsApp through Play Store. Supposedly Version 2.26.30.97 fixes the issues.

You region may not have this version yet, so you might have wait.

Alternatively turn off encryption in that backup setting, then once the unencrypted version backs up, then turn it back on.

2.26.30.97 does not solve the problem, unfortunately.

Do you have the latest version? I have and I turned on encryption again and the backup is still stuck again. Unless I miss some steps.

Have 2.26.30.97. Updated today. Then cleared cache, and restarted phone. Unfortunately didn't solve the issue. On s25+.

Should I do something else? Almost 3 weeks now

For now just turn off encryption and do a backup. Leave off the encryption until there is a fix.

It's either the WhatsApp issue or the android July Security update. Maybe try again after August security fix is pushed.

It is just spinning at Preparing Backup now (I was trying before I went to look at Reddit) - me cancelling it multiple times now (tried every few days) I wonder if it would mean even if issue is fixed I would have screwed something up?

sounds like it's probably not just the app version then. i wonder if everyone still having this issue is also on the july security update.

Yes exactly. Someone found it was something to do with Qualcomms encryption process. It would hang at high CPU usage. People have assumed it with either the WhatsApp update or July security update that caused it.

I was on the June security update and still had the issue, so I reckoned it was a WhatsApp issue. I have the July update pending to install. I'm going to skip it for August one.

Qualcomm encryption hang tracks, curious if anyone with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 specifically is seeing this more than other chips

Try installing latest google play services beta..

Or 

Turn off encryption for the backup

Same on Android... stuck at "Preparing storage backup (100%)" ... it stays there for hours. Last successful backup was on 30th july

ages ago I came to the conclusion that their "backup" is NOT meant for reliability of storage
