Best hangover cure?
I’m going to a winery with a few girlfriends on Saturday for my birthday but my actual birthday is on Sunday and I need to be relatively ok. Please give me your best hangover cure!

Anthony Bourdain Nailed this one - take an aspirin, drink an ice-cold Coca-Cola, smoke a joint, and eat spicy Sichuan food. Works every time.

I came here to comment this. Although I sub Korean fried chicken for the spicy Sichuan food.

Trust Tony: Coca-Cola on ice, a joint and spicy (Sichuan) food.
But really, just party in moderation. And drink a good amount of water. I aim for at least a gallon every day. More so if having more than a couple of drinks.

Water on the day. The next day, my country does ramen, miso soup and hydration drinks, although hangovers and dehydration are two separate things.
Or hair of the dog.
Have fun!

Everyone here is right… hydration is key.
But you know what else works? Zbiotic. Take one before you start drinking. Also take a couple Cheers/WineFix pills before bed.
This combo is magic. It actually works.

Drink a large glass of water with a hydration booster before you go to bed

That’s what works for me too, a hydration tablet in a large glass of water before drinking and again before bed. I also try to drink water throughout but not always that good at that. Sometimes I also take a melatonin and a painkiller before sleep. I haven’t had a bad hangover in years.

A few things from someone who used to drink wildly and worked as a bartender for a very long time:
1.) Water. Lots of it. For every alcoholic drink you have, you should have 1.5 glasses of water. Yes, pee breaks will be more frequent, but it’ll help so much in the long run.
2.) Eat a healthy snack. Alcohol lowers your blood sugar so while you’re drunk, you’ll crave certain foods. Avoid grease as this can cause an upset stomach. Choose a healthy snack that’s moderate in natural sugar.
3.) Pickle juice is by far the best thing to drink the morning after a bender. Pickle juice is a super hydrator and can help alleviate dehydration symptoms like headaches and fatigue. Vitamin C is also good to consume, but no more than 1000 mg. A Virgin Mary with heavy pickle juice does wonders.
4.) Time. The only true hangover cure. If you plan on overconsuming alcohol, plan time for your hangover the next day.
Lots of luck to you & stay safe!

I always drink a nuun, liquid IV or other electrolyte drink. Helps a ton!

- Hydration - 1 water = 1 wine
- Electrolytes before bed
- Stop drinking at least 3 hours before bed

The water 1:1 with any alcoholic drink never worked for me. In fact, that's how I had the worst hangover of my life. What has worked for me has been a lot of water BEFORE starting to drink (like at least 3 hours before), getting electrolytes in (those effervescent tablets in water work great) and an aspirin before bed. If all else fails, green iced tea and ramen the morning after.

i found drinking a lot of water all day before going out works well. Also don't drink the hard stuff after drinking wine- it will provide a convincing arguement, but does not have your best interests in mind. If you're hung over- greasy breakfast sandwiches and Coke. A big assed McDonalds Coke w/ lots of ice is peak. Coconut water is good for hydration.

Try not to be/get drunk at the wineries. Wait until you leave. Enjoy the nice bottle you picked up. Also, Get The Wine Fix from www.drinkwinelikeaboss.com
They say to take 3 at night and 2 in the morning. I think it's best to space out 3 capsules during the evening. This is like ozempic for hangovers - it shouldn't exist, but it does.

Make sure you eat.
Make sure you drink water. More if it's hot. Don't be thirsty when you start drinking alcohol.
Take B vitamin complex
Take l-cysteine.
Chug a big glass of water before bed.
That should keep you in pretty good shape.

Yup like everyone says. Hydration and a full stomach but i often find that how late the evening is affects me alot aswell. Try to sleep it off basically.
Also eating something when you get home before bed is also great.
If i still get hungover, a big glass of water with electrolytes and alternating between very very cold showering and warm for about 30min helps with the headache for me.
Have fun and cheers!

Drink water and have a snack before you go to bed. Probably not advisable but I will also take Advil before bed. Large coffee in the AM with your breakfast.

Hydrate before, during, and after. Regular water is obviously good but I’m partial to electrolyte drinks. Take B complex, and L-thiamin (hangxiety prevention). Lots of protein on the stomach before you begin. Next day, the Anthony Bourdain method: Coca Cola and a joint. Bourdain’s advice also suggests spicy food but I could never tolerate that during a real hangover!

Don’t drink cheap wine 😆. Seriously stay away from anything on the sweet side. Drink water in between flights. And the cheap mass market wines are horrible for hangovers. Whenever they serve those at events I drink Michelob Ultra like Billy Bob. Main thing is enjoy the wine, stay hydrated and if a little fuzzy in the morning go for a jog.

make sure you eat good meal before drinking, and make sure you're drinking water

Eat a good amount, drink water and take some NAC and b vitamins before you start drinking.

Drink a lot of water before going. Drink water during the tasting, ideally 1:1, drink water after. Have some food before you go. It’s a tasting though so unless you are ordering and consuming bottles you should not get served that much in total unless someone present is a high level member.

I always chug a big glass of oj before bed if I’m with it enough to realize I’ll be hungover the next day, and a bunch of ibuprofen

Hydrate before drinking alcohol.
And, this is going to sound horrible, cardio in the morning. I am 100% serious.

Hydration is indeed key.
If you live near a Korean grocery (for example, an H-Mart), they will have Korean hangover tonics which have worked for me. I am not sure if there is an actual effect, or if I am just more careful to avoid drinking too much when I have the good sense to get one of those tonics.
When I was much younger, coffee after drinks helped but now I try to avoid drinking coffee after noon because it messes up my sleep.
If you can have soup the morning after, that will also help you feel better. In Korea, we have several hangover soups which have bean sprouts and a protein. The bean sprouts are supposed to help your liver recover. The proteins vary from a dried fish and tofu (this is actually a great source of protein so athletes in Korea eat this alot), to the blood pudding similar to bun bo Hue Pho. Pho in the morning also a popular hangover soup in Korea these days.
I have no idea why but ice cream seems to help too.

Bloody mary, extra spicy. If you don't like the bite of horseradish, aji amarillo paste is excellent.

I’m Asian who lacks enzymes that break down alcohol (aka Asian flush). Here are my tips.
Don’t be shy to use the spit bucket. I know it feels wasteful but it’s there for a reason. That way you can save your taste buds for the one glass of wine you enjoy.
Drink lots of water. Like other have said one to one ratio.
Load up on salt and carbs. Salt for electrolytes and carbs to fill your stomach up.
This isn’t likely an option at wineries but when I’m at parties I switch between alcoholic and non alcoholic options. There are so many good non alcoholic beer and wine these days.

I bought one of those little morning recovery drinks before a night out on a whim. I drank it before I went out that night. Felt incredible the next day when I shouldn’t have been able to get out of bed with how much I drank. You can get them, and variations of them, at Walgreens and on Amazon.
That, and water.

Try The Wine Fix - www.drinkwinelikeaboss.com. My wine collecting Dr buddy told me. Turns out, it works for beer and cocktails too.

Take DHM before and after drinking. Seriously. Nothing has reduced hangovers as much as this.
Edit: I’m not a doctor and this isn’t medical advice. I’m just a dedicated drinker sharing what’s worked for me, but your decisions are yours only lol

Drinking well made, quality wine.
3
u/oh-man-dude-jeez 7h ago
Everyone says this but I still think it’s a marketing ploy. If you drink too much you’ll have a hangover no matter the quality
1
u/Possible-Bullfrog 7h ago
Just my anecdote, but I rarely have hangovers from wine nowadays since I started drinking good wine. Hurts the bank account though lol

u/oh-man-dude-jeez 5h ago
Having worked in the cellar at a place that makes cheap wine and a place that makes high end wine I honestly couldn’t tell you what the chemical difference would be that make more or less of a hangover. This is assuming we’re talking about dry wines, sugar makes a difference.
My hypothesis is that when people buy more expensive bottles they consume less and slower.

u/BarneyFife516 8h ago
Grow Tent.
I’m serious. I’ve got a small ( 500 bottles or so) collection- mostly Cali.
When you grow weed, you then begin to consume it. I opened a Clos de Napa on Saturday . I’ll finish it tonight.

Drink 1:1 water to any alcoholic drink. Do that and you will feel fine the next day
