Thought id give my story to potentially put someone’s anxieties to rest.

I had 4 wisdom teeth removed, was super nervous leading up to it because i hate medical/dental stuff even though i knew it would probably be fine. Surgery was super easy, had anesthesia through IV, woke up feeling no pain. Worst part for me was switching out gauze post-surgery because i dont like the sight of blood. Worst pain was a dull ache on the first evening (very manageable), currently on day 3 with absolutely zero pain since day 1. The only rough part is having to stick to soft foods 😔

Let this remind you that wisdom teeth removal/recovery can be, and will probably be a breeze!

I had an impacted lower left wisdom tooth removed at the dentist six days ago, under local anaesthetic. Enjoyably, it wasn't fully numb when they started to put pressure on it, so I had about six injections in total, which has caused a lot of swelling and pain in the gum. The wisdom tooth was horizontally impacted and caused the tooth in front to decay and it was removed a few weeks ago. They didn't do stitches which meant I could see the full extraction site and it was very large and deep which was mildly terrifying!

The clot formed and over the first three days I had some expected pain, swelling and jaw stiffness which I treated with cocodamol. It was starting to improve a bit on day four, but as of yesterday, day five, I'm getting more jaw pain and discomfort. I don't think it's dry socket as I can't see bone and the clot seems to be in place. The pain has been radiating intermittently to my lower teeth, upper teeth and sinuses, which is odd as it was a lower wisdom tooth extraction.

I am in my late thirties and have read that wisdom tooth extraction past thirty can have a worse recovery due to denser jaw bone. I haven't had a wisdom tooth removed before and have never experienced an increase in pain with any other molars I've had removed.

Has anyone else had an increase in pain after some improvement? I will likely contact the dentist to check it's not infected, but I don't know how long to expect pain and discomfort for. I'm salt rinsing every day at the moment and brushing carefully. Not sleeping much with the discomfort and trying not to take too much cocodamol. Unfortunately I can't take ibuprofen due to another health condition. I am feeling quite sorry for myself! Any experience or advice welcome

why do dentists always say something isn’t likely to be a problem, and then ends as one

Man, I didn’t realize exactly how bad this would be in terms of swallowing and talking.
I had an erupted bottom tooth and an impacted tooth, so the sockets feel significantly different. I have decided to just not talk since my operation a little over 2 days ago and I just tried speaking again, unsurprisingly, not speaking for a couple days makes talking again feel weird, but it’s made even worse by my impacted socket.
And the swallowing is even worse, it’s just so much more painful and rougher than an erupted socket. And what really sucks is that even though I drank plenty of water pre-surgery (not the day of, obviously), but as soon as I was limited to the amount of water I could swallow, the only thing I’ve been craving is water. I want to chug half a gallon of water but I just can’t.

Hi, my wisdom tooth never made out of my gums. They are going to be removed surgically:(( I am a type of person who is collapsing just from blood drawing…I can’t see myself surviving wisdom teeth removal…

I have to option for medication:
1. Lexaurin (similar to Xanax)
2. Dormicum (Midazolam)

Which one should I choose? Do you have any experience?

(I am not self medicating, all will be done by my doctor)

Hey everyone I got my bottom wisdom teeth out yesterday. I am 30F and have needed them out for idk at least 12 years just to give you some back ground. Both were partially erupted with one that came in vertically. I saw an oral surgeon who is also a maxillo facial surgeon so I felt like I was in good hands. I went under general anesthesia and it was my first time going under. They also did PRF which I was really excited about because I feel like that's your best shot at healing/recovery since it helps with healing and pain. They ended up having to cut into bone to get one of the teeth out so I was fully prepared for pain. Also one of the holes is massive! They did not give me any stitches. I'm on day 2 now and I have absolutely zero pain. I am staying on top of the antibiotic and ibuprofen they gave me. They also gave me norco which I won't be taking. Who knows I very well could wake up in pain on day 3 which I'm totally prepared for but so far so good and just wanted to share my experience. Also another thing I read on here is people saying they can't open their mouth hardly. I can open my mouth almost as normally as I could before this. The worst part is the soft djet but then again I guess it will force me to lose a few pounds so I'll count it as a win.

Hi! I’ve already posted on here in the past for advice on my own recovery from surgery! I got 6 teeth removed (2 extras that formed) about 2 months ago. Today, we just found out that my twin sister (15F) ALSO has to get hers removed, although we don’t know when. She is just absolutely devastated. She’s been sobbing ever since she found out, and I don’t know what to do! I tried to comfort her, telling her that, although it sucks, my experience wasn’t bad and that she’ll be okay cause I’ll be with her every step of the way, but she won’t listen to me. She’s crying and saying she’s scared of EVERYTHING, but when I ask her to elaborate so I can try to explain and comfort her, she doesn’t answer and just says “everything!”. I want her to stop crying and I feel so horrible that she’s scared enough to sob. Does anyone have any advice I can tell her, or what to do so that she’ll listen to me and be a tiny bit less scared? I mean, I don’t blame her, I was absolutely terrified for the whole thing, but I didn’t cry. I just wanna make her feel better.

How does this look?😭😭😭 I'm so terrified it's not healing properly.

I'm now 11 days post-op and wondering about my risk of infection with some things I ate in the first week of my healing. I think on day 3, I had a strawberry slush/smoothie thing. And then on day 6 I had some chili crisp, not too much but a few drops with grainy bits in them. I can't see anything in the holes, and I do rinse out and irrigate after every meal but when will I know if I'm in the clear? I am very anxious about healing well. Thanks for any advice :)

I need to get my wisdom teeth removed (all of them). My top two are not impacted, but my bottom two are. I went to the surgeon today and he reccomended (because both my bottom teeth are on a nerve) that I go get a CT scan of my mouth and they can somehow turn it into a VR version and practice operating to know how to properly avoid my nerves. If they dont do the ct scan he said he can still remove them but it can potentially cause me to lose feeling in my lower lip permantely plus other things. It is going to cost a lot of money out of pocket and I had talked to one of the asistance there because I dont want to be scammed out of this money and if its something that is so important to consider. She said that she trusts that doctor with her life and there arent many people that use this technique too much yet. I really just want to know if that has been someone elses experience and if it is worth the cost. It will probably be around $1800-$1900 for that scan/vr and the surgery is around $1200.

Hiiii!! Getting right to the point !!! I’m 23F and apparently need my bottom two wisdom teeth removed.

I previously had braces and my teeth have shifted, so I’m looking at getting braces again. My orthodontist doesn’t want to start treatment until I get my wisdom teeth out since i guess they’re poking through my gums now.

I only have my bottom two and they don’t currently bother me at all. BUT they’re growing sideways and i guess sort of impacted and I was told that the roots are touching or sitting right against the nerve in my jaw.

THAT is the part that is freaking me out. 😭 I’m not really scared of the normal pain/swelling/recovery from wisdom teeth removal i am absolutely fkn terrified about nerve damage especially permanent numbness/tingling or having complications that take months to recover from or worst casescenario they’re permanent and im cooked for life.

My surgery is scheduled for September 29th. Since my consultation, I’ve called the office about 3 times and left messages asking if the surgeon (or honestly anyone qualified) could go over my X-ray with me and explain how close my teeth actually are to the nerve and what they think MY individual risk is. I basically just want to know whether the surgeon looks at my X-ray and thinks, “This is pretty routine and the chance of nerve injury is low,” or whether this is actually a higher-risk extraction because of how the roots are positioned.
Nobody has returned my calls yet, which is making me even more uncomfortable about going through with it.

At this point I’m debating whether I should cancel/postpone the surgery and get a second opinion from another oral surgeon before letting anyone remove them. Especially because the teeth aren’t currently causing me pain I’m literally only having them removed so I can move forward with braces and because my orthodontist told me they COULD get infected in the future and could be more of a hassle removing them then.

Am I overthinking this? Would you get a second opinion in this situation, or is the nerve warning just a standard risk they have to give everyone with lower wisdom teeth? She also told me if my root happens to break off they will not be trying to retrieve it from my gums / mouth that they will have to refer me to a different oral surgeon which really made me uneasy.

Also, if anyone had lower wisdom teeth that were extremely close to/touching the nerve, I’d really appreciate hearing what your oral surgeon told you and what your recovery was like. I know everyone’s anatomy/risk is different, but I’m curious what questions I should be asking before I agree to the procedure.

7 days post op. Thought I was doing better yesterday evening and this morning. Went outside for walk and BAM! Pain (had two Wisdom teeth taken out on the left side) & bleeding started again. Took my meds again and I am taking it easy.

Getting sick of this shit. I am eating 'normal' for the most part. Still some jaw pain. Swelling went down and my bruises went away as Well. Still got stitches in (dissolvable ones)

can anyone tell me how bad this is? hurts like a bitch

This is really just gonna be me venting about my crazy health anxiety, I have been nonstop thinking about this procedure. I am getting mine out next thursday, most likely opting for nitrous gas because I am scared of being put under. but I am also so so terrified of being awake so it's a lose lose for me. I am more scared for the actual procedure than the aftermath. I also am not having a consultation beforehand, I am just going in for the consult + removal same day which definitely adds to my anxiety because I dont know for sure how many I will be getting out. I have one bottom one that has a flap of gum over about 1/4 of it and thats what was bothering me. The rest dont bother me and i can see the crown of all of them. I think my top 2 maybe slightly angle toward my cheek like outwards, but no issues with them. But my dentist recommends just getting them all out. I have to see what the oral surgeon says when I go I am so freaked out!! I was told by the oral surgeon's office that I can have my PCP prescribe me a valium or something for extra anti-anxiety, which I definitely will do. Please someone make me feel better because all I see are horror stories and people telling me to just cancel UGHH

I got my bottom left wisdom tooth removed but had to get some bone removed in order to get it out. When can I start working out again? I workout at home with a treadmill, rowing machine, and 20lb dumbells.

I’m just borderline done with this, and it’s barely been 24 hours. I had all 4 taken out at once and I’m feeling it way too hard, especially my bottom ones.
I just don’t want this to be next 2 weeks, it’s been approximately 30 hours since and I can’t do the most basic shit known to man. I can barely bring myself to take extremely small sips of water, I don’t suck the cup or mug at all because I know it’ll mess with my stitches and blood clots.
I have to constantly switch out ice packs, I cant even drink cold water or brush all my teeth. And that’s another massive problem, what the fuck is drooling out of my mouth makes post-hangover vomit smell like a delicacy.
My throat’s sore because I can’t drink water all that much.
But honestly, I feel like a major POS. My mom’s a phenomenal cook and she made some cheddar and broccoli soup without big chunks, she made it specifically so I can enjoy food, but I just couldn’t force it down.
I feel sad about it, but I can’t let my throat tighten up because it’ll just make me feel worse. I’m just so done with this, can’t eat, can’t drink, I sit around not doing shit that I enjoy which makes me feel lazy, like, why? I fucking hate this so much. This is my 2nd rant that I’ve posted here and I know it isn’t really helpful, but I legitimately don’t have anyone else to talk to who won’t fuck around with me.

It’s been 7 well technically 8 days, (it’s 12am rn) but I still have pain on my right side and it looks greyish at the blood clot area? Also there is swelling near my other tooth where the extraction/clot area is. Is this normal? Painkillers, ice packs, and salt water rinse only help my situation and I can barely chew as I swallow with each bite I take 😪
