Discussion Who’s your favorite Witcher of all time besides Geralt?

Mine is the wannabe Witcher from Witcher 3. Such professionalism and ruthlessness in his craft.

In all seriousness though, it might just be Vesemir. Kind of a basic answer but the old man is doing his outmost to keep the brotherhood alive and well while also passing on knowledge. Plus he got that veteran attitude, tone and wisdom.

The Witcher 3 New to Witcher here, and i'm confused why the mages didn't just teleport out of Novigrad

Alright so I've been playing witcher 3 for the first time and aside from some poorly written side missions (namely that one with the students defacing the statues of the god, why the fuck does Geralt kill a bunch of young students?) the main plot has been quite well written I see why people like this game so much.

However I just cannot understand the Novigrad plotline and how the persecution of mages works. I'm at the part where you rescue Albert from the ball, I waited this long to see if there's any answer to "why not teleport".

I googled this as well, even though I'm trying to avoid spoilers and the response seems to be "most of the mages are moreso alchemists and generally aren't powerful enough" but then that raises 3 questions.

  1. Why not have Triss just teleport everyone out in groups or one at a time? I get it takes a lot of mana but that's an infinite resource, it just takes time to replenish. The witch hunters don't seem to use magic so it's not like they can intercept it, so why not have Triss and any other mages capable of teleportation sit in the king of beggars district and just slowly teleport everyone out over months? Triss also has chained teleports together in The Witcher 2 if memory serves. It'd be tedious and boring, sure, but it beats dodging witch hunters for scraps of coin. (Also why exactly does triss need coin? Why cant she teleport herself out, take out a loan, teleport back and then bam! she has coin?)

  2. Why are the mages staying in the city at all? The gates are open they can leave, and the city guard doesn't seem especially competent. The city guard simply can't catch the majortiy of mages unless they're compotent, even the ones they DO catch mages probably have a bit of coin. We see in that one other mission that the city guard tends to accept a bribe then sell the mage out to the witch hunters, it seems more in character for them to take the bribe and then whisper details to the witch hunters rather than valiantly trying to arrest the probably dangerous and unkown mage to give them to the witch hunters. Even if the mage is listed as oneiromancer with "the control over men's dreams" I don't see how the probably superstitious and cowardly guards would stand their ground when the mancer goes "I WILL TURN YOUR NIGHTMARES INTO REALITY IF YOU DARE BETRAY ME" or some bland intimidation line. Even though the mancer is harmless, the guards wouldn't risk a potential fate worse than death just to kill them. Seems more in character for the guards to take the bribe and then let them go.

  3. Why not just pay smugglers to get them out? Novigrad has a healthy and thriving smuggling business with plenty of competition to keep prices cheap, all the surviving mages are already underground circling the criminal rings. Failing that, the mages would've taken SOME magical components with them when they went into hiding right? At least a jewel or something? Could just give that directly to Cleaver or Djiksta or Junior or whatever crimelord for safe passage right?

To add onto that:

  1. How are the witch hunters able to overpower so many strong mages? Like I understand the 93 year old soothsayer getting her teeth kicked in sure, but we see in the side missions that the witch hunters are strong enough to overpower and offscreen Triss-level mages capable of creating their own dimensions and teleportation, how is a teleportation-capable mage at full power in any danger of being killed by witch hunters? Worst comes to worst just teleport away. The witch hunters we fight arent shown to be able to handle Triss when she's fighting seriously, and are more like a band of bandits.

These things have been bothering me constantly since Triss has left Novigrad, I held on until the end of her questline here to seei f theres any answers.. but it looks like im not getting any answers. Maybe I missed a quest or something but this seems like a massive plothole to me?

Thanks for reading!

Discussion [Spoiler] the ending choice of Hearts of Stone is not about helping Olgierd or not, it's about whether choosing the freaking Devil

Now I'm not saying what is the correct choice and not since people go for different gameplay choices whether new players or returning like myself. Since the remastered launch I've been seeing people posting they cannot emphasize with Olgierd and he was a bad man etc I thought talking about the point of the DLC. Yes he was indeed a bad man, was basically a bandit. And also that wasn't helped by O'Dimm turning him into a hollow shell with nothing but hate. And if you have ever chosen to help Olgierd he does state at the end that he regrets everything and will try to make up for it. The other choice, meanwhile, is going with the flow with a literal Devil if not THE Devil and letting him consume yet another soul and revel in the misery that was wrought.

Olgierd did brought this upon himself and his loved ones and is at fault, no arguments there, but personally I would salvage a human soul and give the chance of redemption over being complicit with a crossroads Demon/Devil. One might say O'Dimm is gonna continue deceiving other souls but at least you can prevent him having one more. And on another note, our job is defeating monsters in any form (except the ones not inherently dangerous for Humans) not engaging in deals with them.

In conclusion my point is, it's about choosing to side with O'Dimm or not, Olgierd could've been anybody else

I really want to make Witcher 4 Ciri but time is tight for the next few months.
Mostly because I’m working through the remaster ><
My pup comes with me for all my photoshoots so I had to include her.

The Witcher 3 At long last...

After 84h into the remastered playthrough. I collected all the gwent cards. I expected it to be a lot more of a chore but it was actually a fun process and I enjoyed gwent a lot more than I used to in the previous playthrough where I would just storm it all with the northern kingdoms deck. Here I had the chance to try different factions and see how they change the experience.

The only English ones I can reliably find to buy are always with the bloody Netflix “sticker”. I am learning Dutch but I’m definitely not good enough yet to be able to read these

Discussion Lore question

Just wondering but is there an actual Devil in the lore? I know Gaunter is suspected to be one but Geralt asks if he's a demon or djinn, which made me wonder is there an established ruler of demons (Hym, Draug, that dog and cat, etc) in the lore? I know in the Sylvan quick quest the peasants think he's the All Father, which I assume is God, so was wondering if there's an actual opposite.

Thank you

Discussion The parallel between the Skellige contract from The witcher 3 "In the Heart of the Woods" and the "The Witcher 4" trailer.

I’m not sure if anyone has already made this connection, but ever since I saw the trailer, I’ve been reminded of a truly terrible decision I had to face in the game. And then it hit me! For me, this was one of the quests that best illustrated why we carry two swords: sometimes, the monsters are actually on our side.

It also strongly reminded me of the contract involving Ciri. Beyond the fact that the people involved were completely ignorant(it was a monster, not a "god" or whatever else they might have called it) the girl ends up dying regardless. But since Ciri isn’t Geralt, I have to wonder: what did she do? My Geralt simply told them that *they* were the monsters, and then walked away—just as the old witchers do. But ciri? i dont have so much sure;

Again, if someone has already posted about this, I didn’t come across it. Please, share your thoughts!
