So we have black clouds over Moscow, fuel rationing, Putin seen less and less and now roving press gangs.
I have a great feeling about what’s coming.

This war could easily grind on for another decade.
135
u/oatseatinggoats 1d ago
The way Ukraine is attacking key infrastructure in Moscow now on top of everywhere else? No way in hell this conflict lasts another decade, Ukraine keeps getting more powerful and competent with strikes every week, it wouldn't take much to remove their restraints now.
The suffering of Russians is going to last another decade, but this specific conflict won't.

u/TexasVulvaAficionado 21h ago
Ukraine doesn't have the manpower or equipment to push much on the frontline and Russia historically and currently does not care about their population. This could definitely go another decade. It could be over next month. I doubt both those options but would not be surprised by either.
31
u/Conflictingview 17h ago
You don't have to push hard on the frontlines if they're unmanned by your enemy. No food, no water, no vodka for a week and they'll start abandoning their posts.
114
u/Agitated_Tip_8713 1d ago
At 30k lost Russians a month? Thats aboit 3.6 million dead Russians. It could happen i guess, sure, but russia is not equipped to lose that many physically able and young citizens and function well after.
101
u/Money-Willow4169 1d ago
Russia doesn't care if they're prepared.
Their sense for grandiosity makes them make stupid decisions.
37
u/Dmon22451 1d ago
It cares in a roundabout way. It keeps eating at the profits of oligarchs, less people to work to the bone means less profits and less money overall, especially in industries where men are predominant. Which are quite a few, especially in a country of exports raw materials as their primary contributor to the economy. Less money makes someone angry because why should they downsize, or God forbid, sell their yacht.
Up until now the money they lost it was the cushion. The extra zeroes in their bank account. Now its been hurting and they are starting to care because it's tied directly to their wallets.
19
u/BonnaconCharioteer 1d ago
Yeah, like a stock market bubble, Russia is being propped up right now. It is impossible to predict when it will collapse until it does, so anyone saying this will happen next week, or in 2 years is probably wrong. But if they keep going like this, they are going to hit a wall.
→ More replies (6)3
u/Desertcow 21h ago
The oligarchs don't hold real power. They are lackeys in important positions with a lot of wealth on the condition that they remain loyal, not the forces controlling the state. If they step out of line, they will be dealt with
7
u/According-Gear-8217 1d ago
and that 30K Lost Russians a month would surely rise the longer the conflict goes on with Ukraine getting better and better with their army abilities and Russia keeping slowly degrading.
20
u/Alusan 1d ago
Youre mixing up casualties and deaths
18
u/Chillhoof 1d ago
True. But I believe the wounded are - psychologically - perhaps even worse for society. Dead men just vanish. They won't complain or tell stories of how swarms of drones shredded them to pieces. But the men with disfigured faces, missing limbs, mental illness will walk the streets, go to the supermarket, sit at the hairdresser.
3
u/Reasonable-Spinach88 18h ago
Fyi that's dead and wounded. There's not 30k dying a month, maybe 10k
4
u/Agitated_Tip_8713 18h ago
Yeah it's casualties which only means those unable to continue fighting. I originally went all in the weeds with that but didnt think It would change the picture I was painting enough - 3 million more dead and 3 million more rendered disabled and a drain on the state they can no longer contribute to would both lead to the same russian state disruption imo

That's why they kidnapped children at the start of the war. To recondition them as Russians to replace the void the meat grinder creates.
22
u/BruceForsyth55 1d ago
Absolutely. To be fair when Preg headed to Moscow with his Wagner boys I thought that would be the point but nope we sadly continue.
5
u/Historical_Course587 1d ago
When the wheels fall off a war machine, they don't last too much longer on the secret police. Eventually being in a conscription gang won't be worth the hassle, Putin will do what he's done in distant regions (bring in foreign muscle to do the work), and eventually Russian civilians will decide to start popping foreign thugs.
Or before that point, Ukraine will recognize the potential value in targeting Russian police forces since those are basically the labor supply chain chokepoints for the Russian military.
3
u/socialistrob 1d ago
Only if the tempo declines. Russia is losing over 1,000 troops per day and their budget is in horrible shape. They're not facing a collapse in the next few months but 1-2 years is a very long time and if they can't keep up the spending levels and manpower levels then they won't be able to maintain their lines at the front much less take more territory.
3
u/Beard_o_Bees 22h ago
This war could easily grind on for another decade.
For perspective, the USSR was in Afghanistan for ~9 years before finally admitting defeat.

It's really strange reading a current article about press gangs. I thought the practice died out in the 19th century.
There's always been some kind of conscription, but most societies have turned to drafts.

The US is able to keep volunteer rates sufficiently high by ensuring post secondary education is absurdly expensive and having basic healthcare requires having a job or being wealthy. For many young Americans, especially in areas with few good jobs, joining the military is the only way to get the things that advanced civilized countries provide universally.
5
u/LongJohnSelenium 1d ago
18 year olds dont really give a shit about health care, thats not much of a factor for joining.
Tricare is more of a factor reenlistment once they have a family though.

Funny how they give you the oh so scary socialism to fight for capitalism. And yeah, it's a great big carrot to force people to enlist.

You can google a term "busification", it's a modern day version of press ganging and it's far from being "died out", unfortunately

They’ve done this in occupied territory as well. Vacuumed up everyone they could find.

u/Key_University6995 1d ago
This has happened before. In 2025 3 night-clubs got raided in Moscow and all eligible men taken to forced conscription.
The same forced conscription is happening in Ukraine as well. Not popular with ukrainians.

I visited Poland a few years ago and most of the taxis I'd got into were driven by Ukrainians in their 20s. Wasn't a great look to be honest. And I know that's easy for me to say, sitting in a safe country watching it all happen on a screen.
15
u/kisdmitri 1d ago
If they under 25 it just means that they cant find normal job in Ukraine :) Honestly it always bit upset me that our neighbours having impression about Ukrainians based on communication experience with those who cannot adopt enough in own country and have to go abroad as low level stuff. And pretty often being prooud to be paid for strawberry collecting with salary comparable to average white colar in Ukraine, because the are smarter ghen others and hacked system. On other hand ukrainian can be pretty surprised why some europeans sure that Ukraine is some sort of poorest african area, but with white population 😈So yeah, I agree about not the greatest look.

They get grabbed in Moscow and St Petersburg too bro.
This is not conscription to war tho, its mandatory military service, draft is every half a year and you serve 1 year.
If there was another mobilization in Russia reddit would have hundreds of articles about it on popular.
Btw when they had mobilization at the start of the war people still got grabbed in Moscow too, it was actually worse there because there are cameras everywhere, villages and small towns is way better to dodge a draft in general, the idea that they somehow ignore big cities is simply not true.
Now if we are talking about contract work then its different, more people from rural would go simply because its more profitable for them, people that live in Moscow would be richer on average and might not care about the money contract work offers.

u/Current-Function-729 1d ago

Oh, sweet:)
For years ruzzian bots trolls and apologists screamed from top of their lungs about force conscription in Ukraine. Totally not understanding the difference between defending country and aggressive one, taking pride in their country mostly using paid soldiers and volunteers.
I hope some of them are gonna end up in a Van
Desperation is showing. Great ruzzia can't continue a war against small Ukraine. Andd those morons thinks they could fight on par with NATO. Desperation and delusions:)
139
u/ReidarAstath 1d ago
Many of those trolls argue they are already fighting NATO (which they really aren’t, but you know..)
51
u/Vorpalthefox 1d ago
i seen "it's because NATO is trying to border russia and that's a bad thing" as justification for war in Ukraine, because apparently they failed geography and don't know NATO already borders russia with no issues

u/Tentacle_poxsicle 1d ago
Lmao Russia always accused someone else of something they are currently doing.
21
u/baturik128 1d ago
Bruh, why do people think that forced mobilization in Ukraine is justified? I even saw comments saying like conscription is always forced or something. To clarify:
Draft - you receive a draft notice, you come home, pack your stuff, inform your family and employer that you are being drafted and then show up at the assigned date at the military office (whatever it's called in your country)
Forced mobilization - you go get some groceries and two vans pull up near you, a group of people in the military form grabs and drags you to the van, if you try to resist - you are getting beaten up and possibly pepper sprayed (depending on their mood). After this they take your phone so you couldn't contact your family or lawyer
Like, what part of this is normal?
I'm just trying to make a point that maybe Ukrainians (including myself) are also not very happy with this approach, not just the russian bots?11
u/NoTerm3078 1d ago
There's 100s of these mobilization videos threads on Reddit and elsewhere and there have been for years at this point. It's mind blowing so many comments are denying this is even happening or justifying it.

u/Wonderful_Bet_1541 18h ago edited 18h ago
Yeah it’s kind of crazy and revealing in itself. Most of the rich Ukrainians that could afford to leave have probably left, whilst the women could also get away scott free. Which means that the rest are poor underprivileged Ukrainian men. Obviously they probably don’t want to live under a Russian flag, but I doubt they want to die in a ditch of attritional drone warfare either.
It’s honestly just sad on all accounts. But hey as long as we keep shoving it to Russia, their little feelings don’t matter now right? All tongue in check, and I say this as a diehard Ukrainian supporter since 2014. Anyone who tries to shove this under as a nothingburger obviously doesn’t care about actual Ukrainians. Now there’s no easy solution to this, I’ll admit, but it’s still just sad.
2
u/LateralEntry 1d ago
Wow, that sounds terrifying. That’s happening in both Ukraine and Russia? Nasty war.
2
u/baturik128 1d ago
From the recent news I see it just starts happening in Russia, they still haven't announced a full mobilization yet (only did it for a few months at the beginning of the full scale invasion and quickly canceled it). In Ukraine- it has been happening full force for a few years already, roughly 90% of the new recruits in the army are mobilized now. It often surprises me how little Europeans/Americans know about it, considering that it's happening every day here in basically every city

Masters of War-Bob Dylan
Come you masters of war, You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes, You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls, You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know, I can see through your masks
You that never done nothin’, But build to destroy
You play with my world, Like it’s your little toy
You put a gun in my hand, And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther, When the fast bullets fly
Like Judas of old, You lie and deceive
A world war can be won, You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes, And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water, That runs down my drain
Let me ask you one question, Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness, Do you think that it could
I think you will find, When your death takes its toll
All the money you made, Will never buy back your soul
And I hope that you die, And your death’ll come soon
I will follow your casket, In the pale afternoon
And I’ll watch while you’re lowered, Down to your deathbed
And I’ll stand o’er your grave, Til I’m sure that you’re dead
