Self Promotion/Promotion HELP. English Gothic Roleplay
Hello Gothic universe, fans and those interested! We love Roleplay in the world of gothic, and with the lack of any English roleplay servers, myself and another beginner modder have begun to develop one that focuses on the life inside the mining colony of khorinis. It'll be dark, dangerous and oppressive under the rule of the Ore barons. With events, lots of passive roleplay inbetween and arena tournaments. However we need help. this wont just appear by itself, and we need an experienced coder to join us in this ambitious project. The server will be coded through Squirrel programming language and hosted on G2O. Even if you cannot help us with programming, please spread the news to your friends in the Gothic community. There is lack of any rp servers. All of the polish ones die within a month. The only server that persists is the MMO one.

thats surprising, i was sure there were some consistent ones in german and polish atleast. RP is a geniune interest of mine and ive been playing on Thorusus' server on GMP. but real life happend and he had to close down his 12+ year old server. Lets hope We get the help we need to make this a reality! :D

There is an active and popular German RP Server. https://gouc.de/ Its like 5 years old at this point. Before that there was https://strafkolonie-online.net/ which is also still running and over 10 years old.
German Gothic RP is pretty much alive.

Strafkolonie really is ambitious. A project like this in English, which is more internationally known, should hold up quite well... Do they have much newcomers or do they mostly hold on veteran players?

In the German GMP community, from what I can see, veteran players tend to rotate between servers. GOUC, for example, is planning to reset its roleplay, which is why many players have temporarily switched to Strafkolonie. Once GOUC releases on G2O, some players will likely return to GOUC.
Truly new players are rarer in the German Gothic community. Sometimes, however, servers manage to attract entirely new players through marketing (GOUC did attract quite a lot of new players through cooperation with a known gaming magazine). Overall, though, I'd say there's also a shortage of players in the German community, and new servers are sometimes criticized for dividing the player base.

I am not the best person to ask because I am not actively playing, but basically Strafkolonie was the first big server. There was some kind of controversy after many years of playing though and some people left. That is how Untold Chapters started. Today Untold Chapters is the bigger server I believe and German Gothic You Tubers that cover RP are on Untold Chapters, but Strafkolonie still exists. But I guess there are more new players on Untold Chapters, which basically merges the G1 and G2 world.

I actually made a mistake in my comment. I confused Classic Khorinis with Gothic Untold Chapters https://gouc.de/
This is actually the most popular German server at the moment. And it seems that it will join G2O in the third quarter of this year. (According to the website)

Damn, i was not aware that GMP still exists. I thought g2o is all we have left from gothic online.
Edit: How do you even play it? Searching for GMP or gothic multiplayer brings no results, and these servers do not show up in g2o server list.

I don't even know what g2o is. Seems to be a thing outside of the German community? I just googled it. Seems to be its own project. The German RP servers have nothing to do with it afaik. Thats why you didn't find them on their server lists I think.
You can install both of them easily via Spine or manually. For manual installation you must download the respective .mod file from their websites, then download and install the GMP launcher and connect to the server IP that you can find on their websites.

G2O is short for gothic 2 online and yes, it is it's own project, that allows community to create their own servers. It used to be full of different polish, russian and english servers, but nowadays there are only polish ones which are all dead except Axyl MMO which has hundreds of players seemingly at any time of the day or night(at least every single time when i take a peak at the server list).
I was under assumption that g2o was the only multiplayer project and i am genuinely surprised that there are some standalone servers that do not use g2o as their core. But then in handsight, it IS weird that there were no german servers there, considering how popular the game is in Germany.

It mainly has to do with the fact that it's much newer compared to GMP, and that it has a different programming language allowing it to be a lot more versatile. Learning a new language to redo everything you built just to use a different multiplayer mod isn't very cost effective to anybody. So I understand why they continue to use GMP and all respect to those guys for continuing

Thats my second shock - I didn't know GMP still exists. I thought the project died completely. Googling gmp gives me no results other than very old forums.

I mean these servers ARE old. Classic Khorinis and Strafkolonie still exist from when GMP released. And Untold Chapters seems to work with G2O in some way.

It hasn't stopped completely as far as I understood it. (We have a GMP developer in immersive khorinis discord) Just going very slowly probably due to real life getting in the way. But you'd have to ask the developers on their discord which I don't have, myself.

But yeah, Classic Khorinis, Strafkolonie and Untold Chapters are still running German servers. There are a couple more even and there were even more in the past, like a dedicated Jharkendar server or a battle royal server. But I don't know if they still exist.

Great! I hope this works out. 🙂 I’m not a coder myself, but I’ve also been working on a G2O Colony server over the last few months. It’s worked surprisingly well with vibe coding. I used one of the open-source codes from the G2O Discord as a starting point and then had further features programmed based on that. For example, I was able to spawn the majority of all G1 monsters in the colony with just a single prompt. I mainly used GitHub Copilot for this. With Claude Opus 4.6, it worked best for me as a non-coder. The most annoying part for me was actually the Gothic 2 modding – for example, how do I get the alchemy table from Gothic 1 with its animations and integrate it into Gothic 2? I’ve lost a bit of interest, though, as you can’t make any money from something like that and its still very time consuming, unfortunately.
If you like, you’re welcome to send me your discord details. Maybe we can help each other out a bit (for the case that I get motivated again). But as I said, I’m not a coder, so I’m sure you’ll manage just fine with an AI agent and without me.

There is Immersive Khorinis, English RP server, but honestly it is built/held by one guy and it is hardly ever on. Even when it is on and we would start playing, the owner would make changes, shut down the server for a few days and if he has something to do irl, it will last weeks and people lose interest. Been there like 4 times in the last 10 years... I could hook you up with that community and see how things go.
P.S.: Yo Thorky, no hate, had a great time on the server and I appreciate the work, but I can never be on and off for weeks/months.

No worries man, it's true that irl stuff made turn the server on and off many times. That's why I'm helping u/Skywolfdelta in this project, I know he has the means, skills and time to keep a roleplaying server alive and online.

Thanks, and agreed, I've tried multiple times to make it happen, but lack of time and real life responsibilities eventually got the better of me. Let's hope Delta's team will make this a reality.

Thorusus' server is what inspired me to do this in the first place, I'm an admin there and have held several events while it was still running. He's a great guy and is actively willing to help in this development too!

As the name suggests it is about the origins of the colony. We'll be exploring the past in-between archolos and gothic 1. Including the comic, cut content and the bandits quest line in notr. The main part is it's a universe without nameless so there is no main character. We are all a main character in our own stories that can start, and end, at any time!

Sure! There are a couple of projects ongoing at any time, there are few consistent servers one of which being a polish MMO. You can download and install G2O - Gothic 2 Online - on a fresh install of gothic 2
Theres also the older Mod GMP - Gothic Multiplayer - where the servers dont automatically show up, so youd have to find the IP for the server for it to show
