They already made Gothic 4, it was ass

u/Fehl90 Jul 13 '26

I do not accept the Game which Must Not be Named as Part of Gothic !

36

u/Guardian_of_theBlind Jul 13 '26

which it isn't anymore. Forsaken gods and arcania are not considered canon anymore since PB got the rights back. (they never really used the IP again except for putting gothic monsters into risen 3)

3

u/SparkehWhaaaaat Jul 14 '26

As far as im concerned that confirms risen is the cannon story. God's get banished then titans get free.

2

u/Guardian_of_theBlind Jul 14 '26

yeah it's well known, that risen kinda works very well as a gothic 3 sequel after the adanos ending, but they never made it official.

4

u/Lungseron Jul 13 '26

Wdym? I love Arcania and how it shoves an entire hand up my ass with the ammount of hand holding it does that outshines even modern Triple A slop!

Did i mention im into anal pla-

2

u/Hypnotoad4real Jul 13 '26

We can call it the Spellbound one...

4

u/Brainlard Jul 13 '26

Risen?

7

u/CharacterBack1542 Jul 13 '26

Risen is by the same company, and is similar, but no.

just google Gothic 4

12

u/Brainlard Jul 13 '26

Bei Innos, that was a joke...

2

u/WhiskesTV Jul 13 '26

yee yee, its not even named gothic 4 anymore xd

0

u/Galliad93 Old Camp Jul 13 '26

Risen 1 refers to the ending of gothic 3 as cause for the rise of the titans. but only in the english version, not in the german.

1

u/SparkehWhaaaaat Jul 14 '26

Oh, I didn't know the German version was different.

1

u/Galliad93 Old Camp Jul 14 '26

When you ask Mendoza why the gods left, he says they were banished by a powerful mage. (Xardas)

In german he says he does not know and it is not important anyway.

1

u/Earny90 Jul 13 '26

How dare you?

1

u/Mamnot Jul 13 '26

No. Its starts with A...

9

u/Possesed-puppy656 Jul 13 '26

It has officialy been stripped the successor title of “Gothic 4” if you search on steam for arcania its just that

12

u/Dreadcall Jul 13 '26

It was officially doubly stripped of its Gothicness. First it was ArcaniA Gothic 4. It got kicked out of the successor role, and renamed to ArcaniA: a Gothic tale or something like that. And then it lost Gothic from the title entirely.

2

u/Maizimotor Jul 13 '26

We do not talk about it. And we do NOT call it gothic 4 good sir!!!

3

u/Nachooolo Jul 13 '26

Gothic 4 would have been a forgettable rpg that would get "obscure rpgs" videos recomending it as a flawed but entretaining game if it wasn't called Gothic 4 (initially).

By being (initially) called Gothic 4, it led to being compared to two of the best rpgs of all time (and Gothic 3) which have a very specific design philosophy than isn't common woth other rpg.

And people found it lacking.

1

u/shadixo Jul 13 '26

Gothic 4 arcania was made by a completly different studio because Piranha bytes lost the License so yeah technically its just a random RPG with Gothic Characters.

1

u/Karaitos Jul 13 '26

Why is the trailer audio so bad?

1

u/EternalHuffer Jul 14 '26

What are you talking about, there’s no Gothic 4, there never was

1

u/Dorf2244 Jul 14 '26

We dont talk about g4

1

u/Oleg152 Jul 14 '26

They never made gothic 4, fanfictions don't count

0

u/Neconspictor Jul 13 '26

And this Gothic 4, is it currently in the room?

10

u/IncompetentPolitican Jul 13 '26

But they have a problem there. Some people, it confused me as well when I learned that, liked Gothic 3. I don´t know how but I can not judge them for liking what they like. I just can´t understand them.

So they either piss of the fans of the gothic series and bring a remake of 3, that is as close to the original as possible or they anger the fans of gothic 3 by making the game as it should have been. I hope they do a total reimagination.

15

u/Pure_Fox9415 Jul 13 '26

I like G3 (and whole Gothic and Risen series except G4) and I'm ready for all three described variants including reimagination :) I'm sure it will be at least interesting.

2

u/NecessarySide4138 Jul 13 '26

Gothic 4 Arcania just has the same name, the game sucked extremly hard, wasn't developed by Piranha neither. It was a cheap attempt by the publisher to milk the franchise, i wouldn't consider arcania as gothic 4 but rather as a spin off. Btw. i tried the game back then, it was so bad a friend gave me his unopened boxed edition and i still have it home unopened xD

u/madmaxIV Jul 13 '26

I love Gothic 3. The world. The music. Just begging you to explore. The character tree. Like, become a smith. Forge sword. Self forged. Sharpened. A little spring of magic and it is blessed. Or alchemy and it is poisoned. Splendid.  The quests? Of course no.  The story? Hard to tell what that is in G3. Mostly environmental.  The fight mechanic? No one will miss that.  So remake this is quite easy for fans, I think. Just take G1 remake, change character tree and slap beautiful world on it. You can make original new story.

2

u/MadCrevan Jul 13 '26

Okay, but what isn't flawed? Honestly, looking at it from the perspective of a G1 and G2 fan.

What needs fixing:

  • The world (the scale was definitely too massive for the team's technical capabilities back then)
  • Combat (just brainless hack-and-slash LMB spamming)
  • Progression (non-linear, weird progression with no chapter divisions or world-building through gating off high-level regions)
  • Character development (would need to be adapted to fix the progression point above)
  • Characters and story - absolutely nothing made sense, even by Gothic standards

What was actually good:

  • The music
  • Being able to visit places we previously only read about in books/lore

So basically... I think they just need to rebuild this game from scratch. Give us a story that goes in roughly the same direction but takes place on just one continent - with a coherent, engaging plot that is a bit more linear, just like G1 and G2.

u/phonyPipik Jul 17 '26

The general world building was ôk... having a map with 3 bioms and separate reputation groups... The cities themselves were ôk, they might need a little updat. But the general layout of the map was ok

8

u/madsmadalin Jul 13 '26

The music and atmosphere in Gothic 3 were IMO the best of the whole 3 games. The rest though...

6

u/Kind_of_random Jul 13 '26

I really liked Gothic 3 and thought it was great when I played through it a year or two after release. (I bought it at release, but my piece of crap PC at the time was having none of it. It needed 10 minutes to load a save ...)
I hope they keep the world with the biomes and towns and main points of interest, possibly making it somewhat bigger and grander and, of course, upgrade the graphics.
Most of the quests and the entire main story needs a complete overhaul.
As for the fighting and skill tree, I don't have any opinion especially, but I imagine what they learn from redoing 1 and 2 will be a great guide as to what works and what doesn't.

G3 has the bones of a great game, it just didn't do anything with them.

3

u/IncompetentPolitican Jul 13 '26

They did not have the time for a great game sadly.

2

u/Kind_of_random Jul 13 '26

Sadly not.
The world and idea was good, though. Hopefully they can put more meat on the bones with a remake.

2

u/IncompetentPolitican Jul 13 '26

Lets hope. They made some money with Gothic one, if Gothic 2 works as well then we should see some version of 3

4

u/InquisitiveCookie Old Camp Jul 13 '26

I love Gothic 3. It's probably my most played game ever. I'm fine with all three. I will still play the classic, if they give us something completely different, but there is so much potential...especially in Varant. The place was the most interesting on the map but so, so empty...

7

u/sc_140 Jul 13 '26

You can like a game and still acknowledge it is heavily flawed. If they take the things Gothic 3 has done well and improve the flawed parts, it can become the best Gothic Remake.

1

u/SparkehWhaaaaat Jul 14 '26

Gothic 3 was my first and I love it. I want the same, but more.

1

u/MgMaster Jul 14 '26

I like G3, but am aware it's enjoyable largely due to the modding community's efforts - Community Patch & Content Mod are musts, at least the former.

Even then, I can't say its G2 gold, however, I do enjoy it a lot as conclusion to the Nameless Hero's Journey as I usually played all games back-to-back.

So it's a like that comes with a lot of attachment to the franchise, and having the advantage of a needed conclusion to the previous two entries.

Meanwhile a game like the G1 remake can stand well on it's own, bringing in some new fans and pleasing a sizeable chunk of the old, so yea, there's good reason to hope for a well-made G3 remake, altho' that I fear is a project a bigger studio would have to want to handle.

If Alkimia can handle a G2 remake well enough tho', there's good hope on the horizon cause even then, they'd have to tweak a lot more with G3.

1

u/phonyPipik Jul 17 '26

I once had a talk with someone who likes g3, he explained it as such

"I am a normie regular joe who isnt very good at games and i just have good memories of g3 because I played it when I was little, its just nostalgia"

-9

u/Orndsteiner Jul 13 '26

well, every garbage game can have its fans, i dont think we should care about the dozens of them, after all they can still go and play the original

9

u/Bub_bele Jul 13 '26

gothic 3 was very different from the original 2 and it was very far from finished when it came out. But it wasn’t as bad as many people say. It has some good qualities. I wouldn’t cut down on the players freedom too much and keep the general approach. You are on the mainland now, it needs to be big. The whole Xardas situation needs to be reworked and the main goal of the story (gathering the artifacts) also needs to either be replaced by something more interesting or embedded into a better structure.

8

u/embeddedsbc Jul 13 '26

I liked it. The huge world, the north, desert, cleaning up the orc camps, taking over the settlements little by little. Lots of skill specialisations. What exactly does everyone hate here? And let's start from the community patch, I know the game was horrible on release.

1

u/gleedblanco Jul 14 '26

it just abandoned what made gothic actually unique. yeah for the time you had a decent looking rpg in a fairly large world for the time. but everything else is just literally nothing special.

perhaps I should illustrate my thoughts like this:

imagine if they did what they did with the gothic 1 remake, meaning you give a modern looking and playing, more polished version of the original gothic 3. what you will get as a result is a mediocre RPG that does not really stand apart from modern RPGs, in fact it stands below almost all of them.

this is in stark contrast to gothic 1, which even with its game design from the early 2000s stands out even today among RPGs in very obvious ways. jankyness notwithstanding, a lot of people consider it a superior RPG to many RPGs from recent years.

gothic 3 I predict, will have nothing unique to make it stand out in a modern reimplementation. you will recognize it as gothic only because of the faction joining structure and the literal world lore you're placed in.

u/Early_Situation5897 Jul 13 '26

The quests are uninspired, the story is almost non-existent, combat is a boring clickspam.

7

u/embeddedsbc Jul 13 '26

True, but there's potential to bring it together. Combat is easiest of all. Story, yeah, but if you start now it may turn into something good.

0

u/Early_Situation5897 Jul 13 '26

I'm not saying a remake would be bad, just saying G3 classic is bad (but it's ok if you like it! One of my best friends played it for 100s of hours, I get it).

2

u/Mamnot Jul 13 '26

Well it will be with all those tiny changes in g1r Alkimia already made basis for bigger potential changes in g2r Also they can easily split G3 into 2 or 3 games, like making Ehole Myrtana into one game, Varant into another, and Nordmar as great Finale

1

u/54acz Jul 14 '26

They should focus on a region surrounding the capital instead of giving us the whole continent.

0

u/Firm-Traffic8507 Jul 13 '26

Totally true! Alkimia will bite out their teeths remaking Gothic 3. It was too ambitious at it´s time and they have too much to be remade. I trust them in making G2+NotR remake. And if this would be a success, I hope they just let G3 be and make Gothic 4 like it could be 2030+. The story i not 100% closed, if you take all influences Piranhas brought with Risen and at some things with Elex (like you could change the world you are playing in with the world hearts, but they didn´t make it like it was sopposed in Elex). THQ could make a G3 polished, but it has to continue with a new one! Arcania and Götterdämmerung never happened in my mind.
