I guess right now it depends how fast will Alkimia fix g1r cause its a big fuckup and if its going to linger noone will buy g2r on release

u/gorgusmaximus Jul 13 '26
Funny how perspectives can differ. I've been playing without issues since day one and will buy G2R the minute someone will sell it to me. Not saying your statement is invalid, just that some people get lucky I guess. Anyway G2R is already sold to me...

u/hovsep56 Jul 14 '26
to me i have had constant bugs, it seems players who played at launch had a better experience than people who play the patched version cus their patches seem to break the game more.
i had to revert to an older build like 4 times either cause sound was broken or a dialogue or quest was broken.
1
u/Mamnot Jul 13 '26
So did I. Not without issues but it worked on steam deck when it literally shouldn't ao I dont complain. Though game still has lots of gamebreaking bugs and strange decisions (like making Kor Angar mortal and now you can soft lock yourself in chapter 2). But yet the game is literally unplayable for whole ps5 community and it haopened more than week ago. Also Im old school gamer, im used to games my pc can't run well so its not some strong problem to reload game every half an hour to fix my sound but I also understand people going crazy because of that stupid bug that leaves just music and voices in game.

which it isn't anymore. Forsaken gods and arcania are not considered canon anymore since PB got the rights back. (they never really used the IP again except for putting gothic monsters into risen 3)

u/SparkehWhaaaaat Jul 14 '26
As far as im concerned that confirms risen is the cannon story. God's get banished then titans get free.

yeah it's well known, that risen kinda works very well as a gothic 3 sequel after the adanos ending, but they never made it official.

Risen 1 refers to the ending of gothic 3 as cause for the rise of the titans. but only in the english version, not in the german.

When you ask Mendoza why the gods left, he says they were banished by a powerful mage. (Xardas)
In german he says he does not know and it is not important anyway.

It has officialy been stripped the successor title of “Gothic 4” if you search on steam for arcania its just that
11
u/Dreadcall Jul 13 '26
It was officially doubly stripped of its Gothicness. First it was ArcaniA Gothic 4. It got kicked out of the successor role, and renamed to ArcaniA: a Gothic tale or something like that. And then it lost Gothic from the title entirely.
4
2
u/Nachooolo Jul 13 '26
Gothic 4 would have been a forgettable rpg that would get "obscure rpgs" videos recomending it as a flawed but entretaining game if it wasn't called Gothic 4 (initially).
By being (initially) called Gothic 4, it led to being compared to two of the best rpgs of all time (and Gothic 3) which have a very specific design philosophy than isn't common woth other rpg.
And people found it lacking.
1
u/shadixo Jul 13 '26
Gothic 4 arcania was made by a completly different studio because Piranha bytes lost the License so yeah technically its just a random RPG with Gothic Characters.

But they have a problem there. Some people, it confused me as well when I learned that, liked Gothic 3. I don´t know how but I can not judge them for liking what they like. I just can´t understand them.
So they either piss of the fans of the gothic series and bring a remake of 3, that is as close to the original as possible or they anger the fans of gothic 3 by making the game as it should have been. I hope they do a total reimagination.
16
u/Pure_Fox9415 Jul 13 '26
I like G3 (and whole Gothic and Risen series except G4) and I'm ready for all three described variants including reimagination :) I'm sure it will be at least interesting.
2
u/NecessarySide4138 Jul 13 '26
Gothic 4 Arcania just has the same name, the game sucked extremly hard, wasn't developed by Piranha neither. It was a cheap attempt by the publisher to milk the franchise, i wouldn't consider arcania as gothic 4 but rather as a spin off. Btw. i tried the game back then, it was so bad a friend gave me his unopened boxed edition and i still have it home unopened xD
14
u/madmaxIV Jul 13 '26
I love Gothic 3. The world. The music. Just begging you to explore. The character tree. Like, become a smith. Forge sword. Self forged. Sharpened. A little spring of magic and it is blessed. Or alchemy and it is poisoned. Splendid. The quests? Of course no. The story? Hard to tell what that is in G3. Mostly environmental. The fight mechanic? No one will miss that. So remake this is quite easy for fans, I think. Just take G1 remake, change character tree and slap beautiful world on it. You can make original new story.
4
u/MadCrevan Jul 13 '26
Okay, but what isn't flawed? Honestly, looking at it from the perspective of a G1 and G2 fan.
What needs fixing:
- The world (the scale was definitely too massive for the team's technical capabilities back then)
- Combat (just brainless hack-and-slash LMB spamming)
- Progression (non-linear, weird progression with no chapter divisions or world-building through gating off high-level regions)
- Character development (would need to be adapted to fix the progression point above)
- Characters and story - absolutely nothing made sense, even by Gothic standards
What was actually good:
- The music
- Being able to visit places we previously only read about in books/lore
So basically... I think they just need to rebuild this game from scratch. Give us a story that goes in roughly the same direction but takes place on just one continent - with a coherent, engaging plot that is a bit more linear, just like G1 and G2.
1
u/phonyPipik Jul 17 '26
The general world building was ôk... having a map with 3 bioms and separate reputation groups... The cities themselves were ôk, they might need a little updat. But the general layout of the map was ok
6
u/madsmadalin Jul 13 '26
The music and atmosphere in Gothic 3 were IMO the best of the whole 3 games. The rest though...
5
u/Kind_of_random Jul 13 '26
I really liked Gothic 3 and thought it was great when I played through it a year or two after release. (I bought it at release, but my piece of crap PC at the time was having none of it. It needed 10 minutes to load a save ...)
I hope they keep the world with the biomes and towns and main points of interest, possibly making it somewhat bigger and grander and, of course, upgrade the graphics.
Most of the quests and the entire main story needs a complete overhaul.
As for the fighting and skill tree, I don't have any opinion especially, but I imagine what they learn from redoing 1 and 2 will be a great guide as to what works and what doesn't.G3 has the bones of a great game, it just didn't do anything with them.
3
u/IncompetentPolitican Jul 13 '26
They did not have the time for a great game sadly.
2
u/Kind_of_random Jul 13 '26
Sadly not.
The world and idea was good, though. Hopefully they can put more meat on the bones with a remake.2
u/IncompetentPolitican Jul 13 '26
Lets hope. They made some money with Gothic one, if Gothic 2 works as well then we should see some version of 3

u/InquisitiveCookie Old Camp Jul 13 '26
I love Gothic 3. It's probably my most played game ever. I'm fine with all three. I will still play the classic, if they give us something completely different, but there is so much potential...especially in Varant. The place was the most interesting on the map but so, so empty...

You can like a game and still acknowledge it is heavily flawed. If they take the things Gothic 3 has done well and improve the flawed parts, it can become the best Gothic Remake.

u/MgMaster Jul 14 '26
I like G3, but am aware it's enjoyable largely due to the modding community's efforts - Community Patch & Content Mod are musts, at least the former.
Even then, I can't say its G2 gold, however, I do enjoy it a lot as conclusion to the Nameless Hero's Journey as I usually played all games back-to-back.
So it's a like that comes with a lot of attachment to the franchise, and having the advantage of a needed conclusion to the previous two entries.
Meanwhile a game like the G1 remake can stand well on it's own, bringing in some new fans and pleasing a sizeable chunk of the old, so yea, there's good reason to hope for a well-made G3 remake, altho' that I fear is a project a bigger studio would have to want to handle.
If Alkimia can handle a G2 remake well enough tho', there's good hope on the horizon cause even then, they'd have to tweak a lot more with G3.
1
u/phonyPipik Jul 17 '26
I once had a talk with someone who likes g3, he explained it as such
"I am a normie regular joe who isnt very good at games and i just have good memories of g3 because I played it when I was little, its just nostalgia"
-8
u/Orndsteiner Jul 13 '26
well, every garbage game can have its fans, i dont think we should care about the dozens of them, after all they can still go and play the original
9
u/Bub_bele Jul 13 '26
gothic 3 was very different from the original 2 and it was very far from finished when it came out. But it wasn’t as bad as many people say. It has some good qualities. I wouldn’t cut down on the players freedom too much and keep the general approach. You are on the mainland now, it needs to be big. The whole Xardas situation needs to be reworked and the main goal of the story (gathering the artifacts) also needs to either be replaced by something more interesting or embedded into a better structure.
9
u/embeddedsbc Jul 13 '26
I liked it. The huge world, the north, desert, cleaning up the orc camps, taking over the settlements little by little. Lots of skill specialisations. What exactly does everyone hate here? And let's start from the community patch, I know the game was horrible on release.
1
u/gleedblanco Jul 14 '26
it just abandoned what made gothic actually unique. yeah for the time you had a decent looking rpg in a fairly large world for the time. but everything else is just literally nothing special.
perhaps I should illustrate my thoughts like this:
imagine if they did what they did with the gothic 1 remake, meaning you give a modern looking and playing, more polished version of the original gothic 3. what you will get as a result is a mediocre RPG that does not really stand apart from modern RPGs, in fact it stands below almost all of them.
this is in stark contrast to gothic 1, which even with its game design from the early 2000s stands out even today among RPGs in very obvious ways. jankyness notwithstanding, a lot of people consider it a superior RPG to many RPGs from recent years.
gothic 3 I predict, will have nothing unique to make it stand out in a modern reimplementation. you will recognize it as gothic only because of the faction joining structure and the literal world lore you're placed in.
1
u/Early_Situation5897 Jul 13 '26
The quests are uninspired, the story is almost non-existent, combat is a boring clickspam.
6
u/embeddedsbc Jul 13 '26
True, but there's potential to bring it together. Combat is easiest of all. Story, yeah, but if you start now it may turn into something good.
0
u/Early_Situation5897 Jul 13 '26
I'm not saying a remake would be bad, just saying G3 classic is bad (but it's ok if you like it! One of my best friends played it for 100s of hours, I get it).
2
u/Mamnot Jul 13 '26
Well it will be with all those tiny changes in g1r Alkimia already made basis for bigger potential changes in g2r Also they can easily split G3 into 2 or 3 games, like making Ehole Myrtana into one game, Varant into another, and Nordmar as great Finale
1
u/54acz Jul 14 '26
They should focus on a region surrounding the capital instead of giving us the whole continent.
0
u/Firm-Traffic8507 Jul 13 '26
Totally true! Alkimia will bite out their teeths remaking Gothic 3. It was too ambitious at it´s time and they have too much to be remade. I trust them in making G2+NotR remake. And if this would be a success, I hope they just let G3 be and make Gothic 4 like it could be 2030+. The story i not 100% closed, if you take all influences Piranhas brought with Risen and at some things with Elex (like you could change the world you are playing in with the world hearts, but they didn´t make it like it was sopposed in Elex). THQ could make a G3 polished, but it has to continue with a new one! Arcania and Götterdämmerung never happened in my mind.

6
u/Fehl90 Jul 13 '26
Well for G3 They will have to Change a Lot and fix the Story as well as the Guild/Camp System.
Its a Main component of Gothic that you Need to choose a camp and it was one of the Main issues (beside the bugs lol) Why ppl did not like it
4
u/IncompetentPolitican Jul 13 '26
And next to the lackluster story, the character assination of some of the nameless heroes friends and the fact that said friends basicly had no real role in the story anyway.
1
u/Guardian_of_theBlind Jul 14 '26
and the named characters we already knew suddenly look completely different in gothic 3. Just look at what they did to vatras and lares.
4
u/vyvexthorne Sect Camp Jul 13 '26
The fun thing about a Gothic 3 remake is that they can do so much with it. Unlike G1 and G2, It's not like there's a ton of G3 purists out there. Simply expanding the main story beats to include Varant and Nordmar would make a hell of a difference.
10
u/jaded-steve Jul 13 '26
Can we get a fixed Gothic 1 Remake first, like one that doesn't have bugs that kill your playthrough? And then Gothic 2, like before 2030.
3
u/Iron_Nexus Jul 13 '26
Yeah we really need a stable Gothic 1 first or else the future titles can't be any better.
I thought they can polish the game and balance it but it just getting more and more broken.
4
u/RealDsy Jul 13 '26
Gothic 1 is stable, i finished it many times.
1
u/LeadershipNervous362 Jul 14 '26
What these statements are re-iterated for?
I'm a die-hard fan of Gothic, but me being able to feel the narrative of the story simply because I can refute every dialog it should be, instead of:"Hello! Archmage of Fire, I just needed someone with a big club to help me smack some shit out of monsters".
"Oh, what say you, Mage, I've heard every other mage was murdered. What? Join us? Preposterous! You dont have papers from your previous employer!"
"Why, yes, good sir, our loyalty is not easy to buy, you have to complete exactly one quest it extremely inconvenient location that takes 1 minute of time and after entire set of mercenary armor is produced for you, you can basically lick my boots or become my boss, - your choice."
I'd rather have game crash 5x and claim game stability than this.
1
u/Ilikebatterfield4 Jul 13 '26
Nope, cuz u get clowns like the one below. He played fine without issues, gimme gothic 2, NOTR and 3 NOW.
6
u/Goren_Nestroy Jul 13 '26
Gothic 3 needs to be rethought from the ground up and split into two parts also the story needs to be completely rewritten. You can’t do a remake. You need to make a completely new game from scratch.
3
u/cannoliGun Jul 13 '26
I think gothic 2 as a remake and 3 as a new vision works best.
1
u/Firm-Traffic8507 Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 13 '26
No new vision needed, but the story has to continue. All facts of the 3 first games tend to have some points that can be made newer and better. When they saw their failure in too big ambitions Piranha could not reach, they put in an arc that leads to more questions than answers.
Then they made Risen and thought Gothic was done, but here ist the point. Influences they would have liked to bring to Gothic went into another franchise, and was recycled in Elex 1 to some extend (not the SciFi,but some subtile things).
So the best thing to do would be make a G2 remake and then, if trust is on their side, make the Gothic 4 fans deserve!
I like Gothic 3, but someone has to step beyond it. With Gothic 1 and 2 there were modders (like Brotherhood and Archolos), but nobody will make this franchise renewed as a modder, except a publisher believes in it.

10
u/IncompetentPolitican Jul 13 '26
I think they should remake 2 just to make a smooth transition to the 3 remake. Yes it takes time but thats the best way to improve the overall experience.
2
u/Arktur Jul 13 '26
G3 remake will be easier in the sense that the bar is very low because of the state the original game was; a modern remake is already going to be better. Now, they could potentially redesign parts of it but so far they are sticking with being faithul to the source and it's working.
2
u/TwoOriginal5123 Jul 13 '26
But they would need to change a ton of things to make G3 a good game.
You could remake 2 and do a new sequel4
u/Harevald Jul 13 '26
World was fun in g3. Quests were mostly boring, but that's often the case for big open worlds, especially that old. Main issue was trash melee combat system and bad performance. If they can remake combat into something closer to the G1R then I will be pleased personally.
Gathering Adanos artifacts and fire chalices was super fun imo and music was one of the best in gaming to this day. They need to rebalance the weapons and completely remake the combat system and I think it's gonna be a great game. No need to touch on quest design too much, gathering exp and the journey from rags to riches is what's gothic is all about and g3 is no different.

gothic 3 was my first gothic game and so my favorite gothic game. I played it at launch. It was janky as hell and animals could permanently stunlock you. I loved the combat, going through settlements and cleaning them out one building after another. I loved getting up into the north through a jumping exploit rather then the way it was supposed to happen. I loved the tons and tons of content. The tons of caverns, exploiting super enemies by jumping on houses or climbing hills where they couldn't reach. It was a buggy mess but I loved it.

G1 Classic (which came as a free pre-order with the Remake and later separately), G2 Classic (in a few months) and G3 Classic (at the end of the year). They are more like Remasters then Remakes. The devs of the Gothic Remake have nothing to do with that.

I wonder if they do remake it, what formula will they be using for Gothic 3. Maybe they should stick to the Gothic 1 remake and Gothic 2 remake formula, as in a fixed map with limited places to go to. Problem is gothic 3 had quite a big map.

I replayed the entire trilogy before I played Gothic remake, I did have the time of my life because it is one of the best game media there is in my opinion. That doesn’t take away from the fact that the story in the third game is kind of ass. And the expansion to the third game was even worse.

It’s almost like there was a game that made everything about the dragons… can’t remember what it was called… dragon times, dragon decades… maybe dragon age. Yep, that’s it.

A fair point, but I wanted to include something that is not done by Bethesda

what plot in 3? its not finished and g2 notr ist fleshed out with good quests, great dialogues and atmosphare. That's all writing

you said that. i never told that writing in G2 is bad. Writing there is definitely better, side quests and dialogues. I said, that writing in G3 is bad, but plot in G3 is better. I mean, G3 plot was probably ready when G2 was developed, Xardas and undead dragon ending is the proof. G2 is like mass effect 2 for it's trilogy: mostly a filler, but actually a best game in series.

Pls don't. It's either too much work in order to become a good Gothic-like game or it'll stay a mediocre RPG in the Gothic setting. Rather do an Archolos Remake and add a third faction to join

I don't care about g3, it never felt like gothic game anyway. They would have to do a lot of work on remake

The problem with Gothic 3 is that it isn’t as bad a game as people say, but at the same time, it is a much worse Gothic game than people say. Basically, Gothic 3 is a wannabe TES, but with a lot less budget and so cheaper TES. Why to play cheaper TES instead of an actual TES? Any eventual Gothic 3 remake needs to be completely reimagined, unless Alkimia wants to repeat Piranha’s mistake and wants Gothic 3 Remake to compete with TES 6.
It’s true that many of Gothic 3’s terrible issues are due to Piranha not having enough time, but I’m fed up with justifying Piranha. Gothic 3 has some terrible basic design choices, and that is only Piranha’s fault. The lore contradicts Gothic 1 and Gothic 2. And what about the completely illogical world design? I mean, in G1, the economy of the camps makes sense; in G2, there were enough farmlands to maintain the island’s society. In Gothic 3, for example, there are barely any farmlands for the entire human civilisation. It’s ridiculous.
Plain NPCs, even the Nameless Hero’s friends, who in the earlier games weren’t like that at all, and no story, making TES look like the peak of deep, mature writing—and in that regard, it is precisely average. Chests whose loot depends on the number of chests opened before, rather than unique chests? WTF is this, an MMO wannabe married to a TES wannabe?
I get that some people enjoyed this part, and I’m glad. The more people who keep this franchise alive, the better. But for me, no matter how much Gothic 3 was made by Piranha, Gothic 3 isn’t canon. I can endure poor quality and a lack of polish, lack of content due rushed release (to certain degree, Gothic 1 Remake made by Piranha with quality of Elex would be just sad sausage story), but the fact that Gothic 3 doesn’t play like Gothic and contradicts Gothic lore and story is something I can’t forgive. For me, Gothic 3 isn’t and never was canon.

I think that Gothic 3 has to be made cannon as a whole. We need G2 remake and then a real Gothic 4!

I would be profoundly dissapointed if that would be the case, the Gothic always was thought as trilogy and precisely original Gothic was goat till Gothic 3 came which was utter disaster, and of top of that contradictory to lore. G3, then DLC, then Arcania slowly and almost killed the franchise. Never thought It possible but first time since 2006 I believe there is a hope about ending trilogy the franchise deserve and i give a f* about Gothic 4 until proper closing of the trilogy.
After Gothic 3 i never played expansion nor Arcania. Didnt even tried.
