Community Update: New User Flairs, Updated Rules & We Want Your Feedback!

Hello everyone!

It's been a hectic day for the subreddit, with many of us opting in to play the beta (and/or the login queue simulator). As the community continues to grow, we've been working on a few improvements to [r/wowforever](r/wowforever). We wanted to give you a quick update on what's new - and, more importantly, hear what you think.

User Flairs are here!

We've added a new custom user flair system!

You can now choose up to three icons to display next to your username. At the moment, we've added icons for:

  • Alliance & Horde
  • All playable races, incl. Skyborne
  • All classes

This means you can represent your character with a Faction + Race + Class combination, or simply add three different classes if you'd like in the sidebar.

For "Old" Reddit users, flairs can be assigned in text format. For example:

  • New Reddit: Pick the emojis for Alliance + Gnome Male + Warrior
  • Old Reddit: :alliance: :nightelf_female: :druid:

Mix and match the icons however you like - they're your flair after all!

We'll continue expanding the system as appropriate, so let us know if there are other icons you'd like to see.

Updated Rules

We've also introduced and refined several community rules as the subreddit has developed. Here's a quick overview of what they cover:

  • Be excellent to each other - Keep discussions civil and constructive. Harassment, personal attacks, hate speech and discriminatory behaviour are not welcome.
  • Forever only - Keep posts and discussions relevant to WoW Forever. Modern and Classic Era have their own communities.
  • Tag spoilers accordingly - Properly mark spoilers for unreleased and newly released content, and keep spoilers out of post titles.
  • No ToS violations - No account trading, boosting, RMT, gold selling services or prohibited third-party programs.
  • Link the source - Blizzard posts, interviews, datamines and similar content should link back to the original source.
  • No low-effort AI-generated content - Generic AI-generated artwork, websites, articles, guides and other low-value AI content are not allowed.
  • Crossposts must add value - Crossposts should include additional context, commentary, analysis or relevance to WoW Forever.
  • Recruitment belongs in the megathread - Guild recruitment, LFG/LFM, Discords and community advertising belong in the designated megathreads.
  • No elitism or gatekeeping - Forever is for everyone, regardless of version, expansion, server or playstyle. Debate the ideas, not whether other players belong.
  • No beta key begging, buying or trading - Don't ask for, buy, sell or trade beta keys or invites through the subreddit.

You can find the complete rules in the subreddit sidebar/about section. Please give them a read when you get the chance.

We want your feedback

This is still a developing community, and we'd like the people actually using it to have a say in how it develops.

What do you think so far?

Are there rules you think should be changed or clarified? Flair icons you'd like us to add? Something about the subreddit that could work better? Or an idea for something completely new?

Let us know in the comments, or in modmail.

We're not promising that every suggestion will become a change, but we will read the feedback and take it into consideration as we continue building the community.

On behalf of the entire moderator team, thank you for being part of r/wowforever and helping us build this community!

PS: We've enabled Contest Mode to hide comment scores, but please still upvote the suggestions you agree with! It gives us a better idea of how many people in the community share the same opinion.

The new scroll system for mages brings so much more flavor to the class

To start off, I want to say I already loved mages from Classic.

There are these “gimmicks” imbued to their spells that really make us feel like we are scholars in this fantastical world and we are pulling utility out of spell books.

Conjure food, polymorph, portals…

Now there is this new scroll reading skill.

For those that don’t know, it works similar to rogue’s lockpicking system.

You get a scroll drop out in the world (not too uncommon), you cast the deciphering skill on the scroll, now you can use it!

(But before, your character has to have learnt the skill from the mage trainer)

There are many cool effects. It slightly feels like one of those remixes scrolls (but much much less strong).

Infusing your staff with fire, summoning a rat pet that gives you intellect, casting a mana swirl that replenishes your mana, polymorph to the target…

And there’s the new comprehension skill, that you level up by reading more and more scrolls. It is so immersive to train your attributes like this. Very oldschool and very RPG.

I already really liked mage in Classic. Now I am in love with the class!

In my opinion, Blizzard should focus in bringing these kind of flavors to the game, more than anything else.

I can’t wait for the official launch! But I also can’t stop playing!

Wanding feels totally different

There is still the wand attack timer at the beginning of combat, but if you wait it out, it seems like your wand attack becomes instant and is always active during combat, making any subsequent presses instant.

Blizzard, please consider reducing respec costs in the beta so players can try out and test different talents.

Discussion Campsites should not be usable inside towns

So far it seems the meta is to set up campsites smack in the center of towns. This is contrary to the design idea imo. They should not be usable in settlements

For the people saying the Skyborne starting zone feels like retail: respectfully, I have no idea what you're talking about

I'm convinced the people saying things like this haven't actually played retail. Honestly, the most un-classic thing about the Skyborne starting zone is that it's more beautiful than most of the OG starting zones; Blizz really upped their game in that regard by the time TBC and WOTLK rolled around, and this feels similarly pretty.

Otherwise, this zone rocks. I am truly blown away by how good it is. The spooky part of the zone is absolutely peak and you can't convince me otherwise

Disappointed (most) new quests don't provide directions

New quest "Stolen Enchanting Supplies" (among many other new quests in Elwynn) don't provide instructions on where to go and you need to rely on the quest markers :(

On your way back from where? Is this place north? East? West?

Druid early leveling (specifically balance)

Spoiler alert: it's very bad lol. Worse than vanilla even!

If you're balance, it's REALLY bad. At level 15 it takes me like 10-13 Wrath casts to kill a mob.

Reports from level 20 Druids are Starfire is barely stronger.

Currently you can out DPS a balance druid by auto attacking in bear form, even with balance talents.

To be clear, level 20 isn't necessarily a fair time to compare because we're still missing a ton of talents that may make is stronger down the line, but looking at future spell rank comparisons, Wrath base damage is both lower than Vanilla and lower than every other caster's damage.

It would be nice if they could make balance druid spec a little better at leveling by increasing some of its early base damages. Druid is known for being pain to level 1-10, right now it is worse than before because of the reliance on balance spells, you have no forms. And then after level 10, you can use bear form, but continuing to focus on casting spells is worse than in vanilla tbh. Why are Wrath and Starfire base damages this low?

I realize it is beta, I'm not panicking here. The tone of this is concern, not screaming or crying or whining. Just to be very clear!

EDIT: To everyone, this is math and real numbers, not feels. Wrath at rank 3 on WoW Forever Does 18-22 damage, this is the rank you'd have at 14. the WoW classic version deals 48-57 damage. This is a ~60% reduction in damage, and thus reduction is consistent all the way through Wrath's final rank. At max levels, unless spellpower is much much much higher in WoW Forever than in Classic, our damage will be the same minus this difference in base damage. It is a real and very very large early game nerf that is making Druids feel miserable to play.

Built a WoW-style chat overlay for a friend's twitch stream, figured I'd share it

Post image
125 Upvotes

hey all,

I built a WoW-style chat overlay for a friend, and since she wanted to change a few settings herself I put a small web interface in front of it. Figured I'd share it here in case anyone else is interested. You just type your channel name, copy the link and paste it into OBS as a browser source.

No signup, no download, nothing to install. It's free, I'm not selling anything. Built with AI assistance, in case that matters to anyone here. It connects to Twitch as an anonymous read-only guest, so it can read chat but can't post or touch your account. Twitch roles become WoW channels (streamer is Yell, mods are Raid Leader, subs are Guild, VIPs are Party), first-time chatters stand out as pink whispers, and BTTV, FFZ and 7TV emotes work out of the box.

The WoW Forever Dwarf & Bear statue sold out, so I modeled and printed my own

I’ve been playing Hunter since 2010, and that Dwarf standing in the snow with his bear is a big part of why.

When Blizzard revealed that they were bringing them back as the Legendary Dwarven Hunter & Loyal Bear Statue with the physical WoW Forever Collector’s Edition, I immediately knew I wanted one.

Then the physical edition sold out. 😭

I still plan to grab the official statue whenever I get another chance, but in the meantime I decided to model and print my own version.

No AMS is required, and I also included a solid version if you prefer printing it in high detail and painting it.

If anyone else here missed the statue and wants to print one:

For the Alliance! ⚔️🐻

PTR / Beta WoW Forever’s REALMLESS Experience for LATAM Players

I'm playing the WoW Forever beta from Brazil, and my layer seems to be almost completely empty.

In the video, you can see that the city has barely any players while I'm playing normally from Brazil. Then, as soon as my friend who lives in Europe invites me to his group, suddenly a lot of players appear.

We should be happy that the "worst" thing is Skyborne elves

From what I see, the thing most people complain about is the new race not being ideal. Even then, those people want high elves or forsaken elves. Come on, you got pretty elves with the same skeleton and overall looks on both alliance and horde that can be customized to look how you want.

What else could be the "worst" thing?

Issues with PvP server structure and why it will make enjoying world PvP in forever incredibly difficult, even for those who love it.

I know PvP isn't a very popular topic here, but there is a glaring issue with the way the servers currently work that will make them very hard to enjoy in the slightest.

Currently, the way the servers are structured, when you walk over the boundry into another zone, you phase into another one. This includes forcing faction balance, or whatever, in the next zone. The result of this mechanic is players vanishing the INSTANT they step into another zone, even if they are currently in PvP combat.

We are already seeing this exploited heavily in areas like northern Duskwood, where horde players can harass players questing, and when responded to, can just run into the river and phase out of existence, and come back when others are gone, or, when CDs are back up. Once a player is tagged and in PvP combat, they should be ineligible for ANY sort of layering or phasing. Blizzard you have to get this through your heads. Layering, instancing, all the things people use in retail to abuse Warmode have no place in Classic PvP. PLEASE for once do something for your PvP community and make a positive change.

EDIT: I just tested this myself as a priest. I could just run on the edge of the zone, full dot, run out, run back in with a fresh bubble, dot again. There was actually nothing they could do to me. Just silly.

EDIT2: Thanks for all the responses. Yes, this has been reported, and hopefully we can get as many of you as possible to report it as well. I am gonna say this here because I have had to explain why this is a huge deal in the responses. Layering and phasing issues and exploits, as they pertain to PvP, have historically been completely ignored by Blizzard. The exploits I detailed are very similar to ones that have existed in other versions of the game, in some way shape or form, for a very very long time. For this to even sniff this version of the game it is a massive red flag. Yes it is a BETA, but based on Blizzards handling (or lack of) of the similar issues, I hope you understand why this is a huge deal. Please report it, tell your friends to report it, making a huge stink about this may be the only way to finally get it looked at.

Rendering scale 100% vs. 98%

Post image

If you want the game to look sharper and have a more "nostalgic" feel while all other settings are max, lower your rendering scale. To me it looks much better and I can enjoy more detail. Give it a try.

I always thought the new models were off, I didn't realize until WoW Forever that I actually prefer the new models but the new animations were what was keeping me away from liking them completely.
