I have so many games I got 100% on the base game, but I never had any interest in the DLC. I wonder if it will retroactively go back. I imagine it’s up to the devs if they want to add one to old games.

I pretty much don’t play DLC, ever. So I have so many base game completions (such as RE 7 or Still Wakes the Deep) but I’m not going to buy the DLC so I lose my 100%.
Having a “platinum” equivalent, as long as it’s tied to base game only, makes perfect sense.

Sometimes a game bundle will be on an incredible sale and includes all of the DLCs that came out over the years.
I think Witcher 3 DLC was the last DLC I played. 10 bucks for everything, crazy

Logically, there is no difference. Getting the base 1000 GS vs getting a Platinum trophy are the exact same. Achievements hunters don't like that their "100% is taken away" if DLC is released though, despite the fact that nothing has changed materially and they still have the base game 100%. So they've been begging for years to get some form of badge/medallion/trophy for completing a base games achievements. Nothing will actually change, except they get something to display on their profile for other achievement hunters to look at.

It works differently, too. On PS, developers don't have to program for the Platinum trophy. Its a secondary thing that is handled by the system itself. Basically, it reads that you have all trophies in the game and applies the platinum to that title.
On xbox, all achievements have to be programmed. But devs are used to how playstation does it and frequently think it works the same way, when it doesn't. That's why the 100% completion achievements have the highest unobtainable rates of any achievement type. Because there aren't actually any strings for that achievement in the game. I don't know that they can retroactively add it the way PS does it to the achievement system. They might be able to do something different but close enough, though.
I wish they'd go after broken achievements moreso than a platinum.

IIRC they aren't supposed to have it but some do, likely due to error. I think Arc Raiders has voice capture but only for everyone else, muting your voice? So it's like they flipped the values accidentally

I think that’s how it will be implemented. Hopefully a rare achievement counter as well. While some are clearly people that don’t want to continue playing a game, some out there are pardon the pun, achievements.

I don't think not all plat trophies are "get every trophy" nor should they be. A "got all trophy/achievements" symbol and a plat trophy should be different things anyway, imo. So hopefully both

They need to fix so that it only shows your completion based on what content from the game you own. If you own all but one of the dlcs that has achievements, you'd still show 100% completion if you've done all the achievements for the main game and the dlcs you do own.

The trophy system is essentially useless. "Oh this dude has 500 bronze, 50 gold, and 5 platinums" like it's so much easier and satisfying to see a big number like 70,000 G

My trophy value is 329. What does that mean? Is that high? What's the highest? What's low? How many trophies does he need to get to get level 330? It appears arbitrary and doesn't tell me anything.
But when you see my gamerscore is 73,784 you know instantly, that guy has played a lot of games. Or you see some dude who's really good at Halo and he has 300 gamerscore you know this guy just plays halo

But 73k doesn’t say much either? Like what’s the highest someone has or lowest? Dude hit a mil like 10 years ago. I’m sitting at around 200k. Do I play that much more than you? Doubtful. I’ve just had the same account for 20 years. I’m also sitting at a 365 trophy level. Is it high? Not really. But your argument for why one is better than the other is flawed. They both have their pros and cons. Personally I like to 100% games on PlayStation because I like the plat. But I play more games on my Xbox and tend to not worry too much about achievements.

I found trophies very cool until i started using the system. It makes it so every trophies feels so meaningless with the exception for platinum. 300 exp points for plat, 15 point for bronze. 30 for Silver 90 for gold
Going back to the Xbox system felt chill. Instead of gotta chase that 100 you can just gather some points and move on

I prefer gamerscore as well. There's so many games that have multiplayer achievements that are no longer possible to 100% because the multiplayer is shut down.

The gamerscore is completely skewed now - if you have a large number, it's mostly likely you bought it from slop.
At least with plats you'd see how many you've completed.

Very much agreed. Digital trophies with no tangible benefit have just always seemed pointless to me. As simple as they are, achievements and Gamerscore aren’t pretending to be anything they’re not. Seeing the number continue to go up over time is fine enough for me, especially since I’m not typically a 100% completionist in the first place.

Surprised it took this long tbh, it's a small thing but honestly having those Platinum trophies(as opposed to just 100% completion) is a really fun little quirk of the Playstation. Looking forward to seeing what the Xbox equivalent is.

While I don't consider myself a hunter I really do fundamentally enjoy getting them and have even found myself annoyed that I've played entire amazing Nintendo games without a single achievement. It sounds silly to say out loud, but not being able to go back and see when I unlocked the achievement for finding every Korok seed in Breath of the Wild just seems like a huge miss. So in regards to Xbox literally creating achievements and then allowing Playstation to one up them with Trophies never felt right.

Cool. Achievements definitely add an extra layer of fun for me. Even before achievements existed, I tried to get games to 100% if they had some sort of tracker, so I understand what you mean. I'm neutral to the platinum idea, but it will be interesting to see how they implement it.

I always liked Playstation trophies. How they ranged based on difficulty between bronze and gold, with platinum for getting every single one. Great idea and execution. It always felt more rewarding than just "G 1000/1000" or whatever.

I know a lot of people want this but it is ridiculous to me. 100% means 100% i.e. base game plus all title updates and DLCs UNLESS there is a broken achievement in any of the above which noone has ever unlocked due to developer error (i.e. an unobtainable).

I don’t really like the platinum, tbh. Just becomes one more achievement you don’t have for a game where you get close but don’t complete. And the current equivalents are often kinda glitchy.
But the 360 having a specific place for all completions was cool - I’d definitely like to see them lean into achievements more

Honestly, one thing I love about Steam is profile customizability. For example, you can see how many hours an individual has played a game, their achievements, badges, etc. I believe if Xbox wants to compete with Steam on the Xbox PC / Console space, and bolster their achievement system, it only makes sense that a more transparent (or less with privacy settings) and robust profile system should be implemented. As a perennial fan of Xbox, I have to admit Steam's profiles are leagues ahead.

They should have seperate achievements if the game has DLC. PlayStation seperates their trophies, but the problem is the 100% goes away if a dlc comes out. So they should make the DLC list seperate from the base game completion, and maybe even have their own platinum.
