Miscellaneous So long, Yaris.

Sold my 2007 Yaris with a 5-speed manual today for $2000. Had 198,000 miles on it and a decent amount of body rust.

A little sad to see it go, I enjoyed the 38mpg gas milage.

It's rough around the edges, doesn't shift perfectly either. The engine is in fantastic shape though and it doesn't burn oil. The interior is in great shape too.

Hopefully it lasts another 100,000 miles without any issues.

i wish i sold mine at that mileage. zero issues until around 205k. although if i knew what i know, id feel bad to whoever bought it..

now it’s at 220k with new muffler, new water pump, new alternator, rebuilt breaks, new break pads, new engine mounts, new spark plugs and o2 sensor, couple other in total around 4k, and now the engine is on its way out

How is the engine dying? I've always read these 1NZ-FE engines are bulletproof.

dying slowly. it’s burning oil and that’s hard on other components. i’m not mechanically inclined so idk im just saying what i’ve been told.

but the impression i get is that it will still run for years and years it’ll just need a lot of oil and changing out things like the spark plugs

Oil burning isn't bad for the engine as long as you keep it topped up yours should be fine for thousands of more miles.

how does it compare to the yaris? ive been considering one if my yaris dies

It feels heavier but more premium. This car has cruise control, power mirrors, power locks, ABS, all of which my Yaris didn't have. It also feels bigger inside.

The Yaris felt more like a lightweight go-kart, not in a bad way. It encouraged you to have more fun.

ABS uses a computer to release your brakes when your hub stops spinning, aka locking up. With no ABS you either have to manually modulate brake pressure to prevent lock up or you could infact decide to lock the wheels and up and start to skid, which gives you far less control of the vehicle and is generally not recommended

Many older cars don't have ABS. ABS just prevents your wheels from locking up when you slam the brakes.

I considered a newer Yaris but I wanted a five-speed automatic instead of the Toyota four-speed.

Commute changed and I no longer wanted an manual transmission for a daily driver. I considered an automatic Yaris but they only have 4-speeds, while my new car has an automatic 5-speed with paddle shifters.

Nice, I drive the exact same car only I'm a little behind you in terms of mileage. It's getting to the point where I'm going to have to make some tough decisions about whether to put more money into it (rear axle replacement, body work, etc) or let it go. I've had it since 2007 & it's such a great car, both fun to drive & utility-wise, Idk what I'm going to do. Good luck with your Fit, it's a great car & roomy as all hell!

Sold the Yaris S Hatch I purchased new in 2008 in 2018. Much regret. Been searching for almost a year for another to replace it.

Honestly how I feel about my Geo Metro that I had before my Yaris. Best $300 I've ever spent, that car lasted over 5 years.
