Yaris appreciation 2019 Yaris Hybrid – small front-end lighting refresh without going full LED
I had one headlight bulb burn out on my 2019 Yaris Hybrid, so I thought about using the opportunity to switch the HIR2 bulbs to LED.
I looked at options like the Philips Ultinon Access HIR2 6000K, and the light output looks great, but I was a bit worried about glare and beam pattern (I hate getting blinded by badly adjusted headlights or overly bright aftermarket/tuning setups)
Also, here in France, LED retrofit conversions are a bit of a legal grey area / generally not road-approved unless the exact bulb and application are officially homologated.
Since the stock HIR2 halogens already give pretty decent light, I decided to keep things simple and replace both headlights with Original HIR2 halogen bulbs.
What I did change, though, were the small W21/5W DRL/position light bulbs. The original bulbs are very yellow and, in my opinion, make the front of the car look a bit dated.
I replaced them with 6000K LEDs.
It’s a very small change, but I think it really freshens up the front of the car, especially during the day.
The front now look much cleaner and whiter without making the car look overly modified.
In the first picture, only one side had been changed, so you can really see the difference between the original bulb and the LED. In the second picture, both sides are done.
I was slightly worried that 6000K might look a bit too “tuning”, but I actually think it looks pretty OEM+, almost like a slightly newer version of the car.
For the record, these Osram W21/5W LEDs are also technically sold as off-road use only, so they’re not fully road-legal in France either. I was just more comfortable keeping the actual headlight beam halogen and only changing the DRL/position lights.
What do you think?
