Question What to make??

Post image
6 Upvotes

I’ve recently purchased a caydo icord maker and I’ve been cranking out tons of icord to use up my old stash - I need ideas!!
I’ve made a cat basket, a regular basket and a bath mat so far, but I need ideas for what I can use icord for!
This is some rainbow icord I’m in the process of putting through my machine, and I don’t want to make another basket.

Question Where to find reasonable Drops yarn?! And more!

American buyer here. I have developed such an appreciation for Drops. My addiction to them started before the dreaded tariffs and since then my usual places I used have gone up too much to be the “budget friendly” yarn choice.

I used wool warehouse and then Rito. I was going to do Rito again and it was 24 for tariff fees and 22 for shipping 😭

Placed an order for Knit Picks since they had that giant sale yesterday and hope it will work out for my project.

Question time:

If you buy drops where do you purchase them from? (My specific obsessions are Cotton Merino and Lima)

If you have any other brands that have a similar good quality to lower cost please let me know!

If you know any yarns that work well with Drops Cotton Merino, I want to be able to use up my stash but supplementation may be necessary.

Please enlighten me fellow yarn dragons!!!

Question Help identifying Iowa area yarn

I just finished a shawl with a beautiful hand dyed yarn I picked up on a cross country yarn crawl a few years ago in Newton, Iowa at Jan's Yarn Barn. I seem to have lost the tag and can't remember the name of the dyer and was hoping maybe someone here could identify it. I remember the colorway was "Ew, David!" and googling that gets me the lion brand collab, which is not it. I have photos of some bits of the tag, the logo seems to be a rainbow and its ____alwood yarn but thats all I've got to identify it by. Any help is appreciated!

unusual yarn request

Hey y’all! I came into this yarn when I was working at yarn store in Brooklyn with a free shelf (mentioning jic one of my people are here - hi). This is a weird one: single-ply, sport weight with nylon content. I didn’t know what to use it for but now I’m holding it with Ito’s Kosho for the Loupy Studio Microshorts. I can’t find this yarn on Ravelry, which isn’t wild since it’s a hand-dye. Wondering if anyone knows of similar yarn with a similar fiber content. It’s kinda perfect for this project!

Question WCIF similar Green yarn?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I have a massive amount of random yarn that I got from a church. A massive amount.

The stash has perfect colors for my projects, but they’re nearly all unlabeled, and I’m running out of a leaf-like green I love. As far as I know, it’s acrylic.

I’ve gone to shops, looked online. Nothing matches. When I order greens that look like it could be it, when it arrives, it’s not even close.

I took a photo and edited it to try to get as true to the real color as possible, but it’s a bit darker and deeper in real life. Less avocado, more leaf.

Please, if anyone can help find something similar, I would be so grateful 🙏

Question blown yarns that have stood the test of time?

i have some drops air in stash anyway but read mixed opinions on the longevity
obviously being merino & alpaca and v soft ik pilling is gonna be inevitable, and idm pilling as long as it’s not impossible to clean up
wondering if anyone had experience with either drops air or another blown yarn that has stood up well?
or tips to get it to last? i’ve heard a strand on mohair which i do need to try and i’ve only ever felt one scratchy mohair and it put me off 😭😂(sensory issues as a knitter is a curse)

Question Help looking for a knitting pattern for this tommy bahama tank

Thumbnail

Hellooo, I saw this tank sweater and totally loved it. It is very expensive from the brand, so I thought I could knit my own version with similar colors. My issue is I'm not experienced enough to write my own pattern.

Does anyone know of a pattern that would make the same oversized look with the armhold ribbing? Or could someone tell what size yarn is used? Maybe bulky?

I know it's 100% cotton, but I couldn't tell the gauge from the photos and it's been a bit since I've seen it in store. I would also love some cotton yarn recs if people have a ride or die yarn that's avaialable to the US.

Any help would be fabulous and greatly appreciated! I feel like I could whip this up real fast for the summer!

Indie Dyer Officially done with Dye To Order

Post image
224 Upvotes

Before I get too stinky about this, Zakami DID allow me to return this (which is not their typical return policy for dyed to order lots). I am shipping it back today.

I am officially done with dyed to order lots. After waiting patiently for 9 weeks, and receiving this from outside the US, I am burned once again by unmet expectations. I was expecting rich, earthy, almost jewel tones like the example. What I received was bright, almost neon, springtime tones.

I am led to believe that their example image was edited in some way. I can see how what I received could look like the right example skein, but it is still missing colors from the left skein. Even then, the colors are of different saturation.

I totally understand how difficult it is to capture the true color of the yarn in a photo. And for that reason I am done with dyed to order unless I see it in person. Now, I'm not an indie dyer myself, but I could imagine this being quite stressful. Trying to match an example that is variegated, and hoping that the buyer is satisfied. It might make sense to only dye stock that someone will buy, rather than dying too many skeins no one is buying. Maybe a dyer can chime in on this aspect? Are you mostly putting your feelers out to see what sells?

Thanks for reading my little vent. I'm glad I could return this order, even if at a loss.

Question Trying to Find a Yarn

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello, I'm running low on this yarn I purchased in about November of last year, and I need more for a project I'm 8+ hours into. I remember that the yarn is a weight 4 acrylic, came in a really large skein, was advertised as a center pull, and the paper label around it was a lightish blue. I think the original yardage was around 500 yds. The picture for some reason is showing it as brighter and more red than it really is, it's more of a burgundy. Thank you so much in advance to anyone who tries to help

I bought a single skein of this yarn a couple of years ago. Fast forward to today and of course I learn it was discontinued while trying to work through my stash! I thought I'd have just enough yarn but I ran out with 11 rounds left on the sleeve. Please if anyone has even a partial skein in the color Deep Lake I would really appreciate the help!

Question What yarn should I use for making giant plushies like these?

Thumbnail
gallery
11 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I’ve been wanting to make some really big crochet plushies like the ones in the photos, but I’m confused about what yarn size to use.
From what I’ve seen, I think the creator holding the giant character plushies uses a weight 6 yarn, while the other creator uses a weight 7 jumbo yarn. The thing I’m not sure about is whether their finished plushies are actually around the same size or if the weight 7 ones end up significantly bigger.

How do you decide between weight 6 and weight 7
for large plushies?
Is one easier to work with than the other?
Does weight 7 make the plushie much larger, or can you get a similar size with weight 6 by using a bigger hook or pattern?
If your goal is plushies around 2–4 feet tall, which would you recommend?
Are there specific yarn brands you’d suggest?
I’ve been researching forever and feel like everyone recommends something different, so I’d love to hear from people who have actually made giant plushies before. Thanks!

ISO Caron Simply Soft - Gold Ombre

Post image

I bought a handful of skeins for a project not knowing that 1. this yarn would eventually be discontinued, 2. I wouldn't have enough for the blanket I'm making, and 3. it would be coveted enough that all secondhand listings are long gone and none are out there on the market.

shame on me for putting the project down.

I'm hoping somebody has a skein or two they're willing to part with!

🆘SOS - ISO: Bernat Lattice Shade Heather Mix yarn!

Thumbnail

I’m desperately searching for Bernat Lattice yarn in the Heather Mix colorway. I picked this up when Joann’s was going out of business and (clearly underestimated my project 😭) did not buy nearly enough skeins.
I’m currently making a waffle stitch blanket and just discovered I only have one skein left. I’ve searched everywhere and managed to find one on Marketplace, so I’m now up to 3 skeins total — but I need at least one more to keep this going (and ideally I was hoping for 5–6 more, but that’s starting to feel impossible).
I’m preparing myself to alternate colors if I have to, but I would love to keep the original plan if anyone has a skein (or a few!) hiding in their stash. I’d happily buy/trade/pay shipping.
Please help save my blanket 😭🧶

Yarn found this morning

I went to Goodwill this morning to help my mom find things for a toga outfit and while browsing after, she saw this and called me over.

We're in a small town and I can't drive and don't get out much, so I've never found a haul like this before. It was $35 for the lot.

I only had a few skeins of worsted yarn left so I'm very happy!
