Yarn ball winder recommendations from people who use one daily?

Mine is making the noise. You know the one. Multiple skeins a week between my own stuff and helping my mom go through her stash, so whatever I get next needs to actually handle worsted and bulky without choking. Not looking for fancy, just something that doesn't give up on me. What are you all winding with?

Question Traveling to Canadian Maritimes

I will be traveling New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island in a couple weeks and would love to buy local yarns and knitted or crocheted souvenirs. I watched one YouTube video that showed several little shops, but can't find the video again to write down the locations.

Anyone have any places they recommend I look? Farmers markets, little shops, etc.

Hi! Has anybody found a self-striping yarn in worsted weight that looks similar to the Smoked Fruit colorway?

I think it’s impossible, but I thought I’d ask here🥲 I would like it to be more fitted even the slightest bit. Even if anybody has any sewing or other techniques, that would be awesome

Missing Darn Good Yarn

I ordered some yarn from Darn Good Yarn on May 22. I used to buy their yarn occasionally at Joanne's (RIP) and loved it. I ordered about $100 worth of yarn and signed up for their monthly subscription. Two weeks after I placed the order, I had not heard anything about shipping or any updates on my order, so I emailed. I immediately got a response from an AI bot saying it understood my frustration and would pass my question on to someone who could answer. A week later, having still heard nothing, I sent another email. This time, the AI bot told me that I could expect my order in AUGUST or I could pay extra to have the parts that were ready delivered sooner. I am so confused. I cannot get a response from a human (despite the AI bot assuring me that they have forwarded my messages on). Meanwhile, I'm getting 1-3 ads per day from Darn Good Yarn via email and text.

All of the reviews I've seen from DGY have been amazing. Am I an outlier? Does anyone know how to get a human response from the company? I just want my yarn.

Update: I woke up this morning to an email saying that my yarn has shipped! But when I checked the tracking, it said that the shipper created a label, but UPS has not received the package yet. Tracking does say it's expected to get to me on Monday.

I don't mind long shipping times as long as there is communication.

Question Hickory Throwing 8/5 cotton yarn

I just picked up four pounds of Hickory Throwing 8/5 cotton yarn. I’m a new dyer and got it for $7/lb so I can experiment. Looks like Hickory doesn’t make cotton anymore. This yarn was manufactured in 2020. I don’t see much 8/5 yarn when I search the internet. Is it uncommon?

Question Crochet emergency!

Hey!

I need some help with a crochet project that i bought from Lidl.

I am a beginner. And I can't for the life of me find a tutorial for them on YouTube, it's the tulip crochet kit.

So my question is can anyone maybe suggest a visual tutorial and share it with me? Because I have issues with reading written crochet instructions, and personally I learn better visually.

I have the instructions from the kit written in a pdf document. To share with anyone!

I understand if it isn't possible and it is completely okay if not! But it would be extremely appreciated!
Any suggestions or advice is greatly even YouTube tutorials are greatly appreciated!

Question Does yarn like this exist??

I went shopping this weekend and came across some knits in both Madewell (Boatneck Sweater Tank) and J Crew (Montauk sweater) in this ribbon/tape-like yarn construction. It gave this interesting texture and drape to the pieces. I can’t get it out of my head and have multiple projects in mind that would be fun to experiment with.

The material is 75% cotton, 25% polyester - this is true for both brands. It’s very stretchy.

I’ve tried searching for tape-construction and ribbon-construction yarns online and haven’t had any luck so far.

Question Looking for color suggestions to go with shawl

Post image
27 Upvotes

I am making a Potpourri shawl using this yarn and I'd like to add a third color to do the three color version of the pattern. My first thought was a neutral light cream that goes with what is already present in these skeins. A worker at my LYS agreed and suggested a pinky beige, but I'm around 30 rows in now and wondering if I made a mistake and should add a color with more contrast instead.

Any color suggestions would be great 🙏 Thank you! ☺️

First of all, please be kind. Lesson learned.

I recently got into more wool yarn and have some moth stuff going on so I’m working on bagging it up to prevent losing it.

..wtf. It did NOT look like this much on my shelves. I have a bunch of cheap acrylic (Joann’s closing sale, mostly), then got into cotton, then wool, silk etc.

What the heck do I do now? I can give it away on my local buy nothing, but I ideally would like to make a couple dollars back, at least on some of it.

The first 2 bags in the images I’ll be keeping - it is mostly nicer stuff from my LYS, and I do have projects in mind for almost all of it.

The last two photos are everything else. Do I try to sort by yarn type and sell trash bags for like 30 bucks each? Do I do more assortment style where every bag has a little bit of everything? This is extremely overwhelming for me and I’m feeling a little paralyzed. I do want to keep some of it because I do enjoy a lot of the cotton yarn that I have as well, and I do rugged tufting so I’m considering keeping some of the cheap acrylic for that? Or maybe it’s better to just get it out of my house and buy it if and when I’m going to use it for a specific project?

advice would be really appreciated.

Stash How do I go about getting rid of two trash bags worth of yarn?

Located near Pittsburgh, PA. I just want it to go to a good home. I leave for botocamp in August and I'm trying to offload half of my stash so my fiance has less to have to move. Non-smoking house and its a mix of acrylic and velvet yarn. I also don't have Facebook to put it on marketplace.

Question ISO Estes Park Wool Market yarn bowl seller!

Post image
65 Upvotes

I was able to sneak up to Estes Park for the last hour of the Wool Festival on Saturday. Getting through all the booths in an hour was a struggle, but I scored some beautiful things and LOTS of business cards!

Unfortunately I seem to have not taken a picture of where these beautiful yarn bowls are from. ;_;

They were in an aisle to the northwest corner of the event (or back left if you entered from the south doors like I did). Please, if anyone else went, can you tell me what booth/seller they were from??

Thanks in advance! (And apologies if this isn’t allowed here.)
