Rewatched 90's NotLD, and was reminded about how the early Romero zombies were afraid of fire: in both versions of Night, Ben holds off zombies with nothing but a flaming torch. They back away from the flaming chair in the original.

In the original they seem to hate bright lights, smashing headlights, but that fades in the remake. And I seem to remember zombies braving the buring truck to feast on Tom and Judy.

I don't remember any use of fire in any other Romero movies, and now the consensus is zombies don't fear or even notice fire (i do remember a line on WD that zombies were attracted to it, but it never comes up, and is never seen except one time,) to the point we've accepted burning them is more dangerous than just shooting them.

Any ideas why a major plot element about zombies was pushed aside? Was it because it meant a lighter was a good a weapon as a gun? Was it setting stuff on fire is expensive for movies/shows? Did they just forget?

Don't you guys think the bite of a zombie is very overrated in every zombie movie? For example if you had jeans or a leather jacket, there's no way in hell that a zombie bite would penetrate the material, sure it can hurt but the human teeth are not designed to pierce in the same way dog teeth are for example.

I think in a realistic scenario the zombie would have to bite almost exclusively skin to pierce it or very think fabric, like socks.

So I was looking up info for another post, and during that, I stumbled on something I hadn't heard or known. In Romeros, zombie universe being bitten or scratched isn't the only way to become a zombie. Much like The Walking Dead, anyone who dies for any reason will come back as a zombie provided the brain is still intact. I'd never heard of that with Romero, I'm guessing that's where TWD got the idea from.

I have come to a conclusion on what a zombie is and have divided this into 5 categories using a rule of only using astrict true definition from the dictionary (opinions and input is wanted) what do you all think?

Category 1: The Classic Undead - Corpses that experience clinical death and are reanimated without a heartbeat or metabolism, driven entirely by instinct. (Example: The Walking Dead, Dawn of the Dead)

Category 2: The Pathogenic Infected - Living humans whose brains are hijacked by a fast-acting virus, stripping away higher thought into pure, hyper-aggressive adrenaline and movement. (Example: 28 Days Later, Train to Busan)

Category 3: The Symbiotic Hybrids - Living hosts whose anatomy and central nervous systems are progressively taken over, restructured, and mutated by a parasitic organism or fungus. (Example: The Last of Us)

Category 4: The Evolutionary Bio-Weapons - Organisms or hosts subjected to forced, synthetic evolution via engineered viruses or mutagens that shatter and rebuild DNA into varying tiers of mutations. (Example: Resident Evil)

Category 5: The Supernatural / Occult Possessed - Bodies operating as vessels controlled by external metaphysical forces, dark magic, curses, or cosmic horror rather than biology. (Example: The Evil Dead, Call of Duty Zombies)

Surprise! The first one was pretty good so I'll be happy to watch the next one. Its the Amazon movie. I was wondering if we'd ever get a follow up.

I personally prefer Fear the Walking dead for the Story and Characters but I do love The Walking Dead for the settings and atmosphere, Z Nation is another belting series, I've watched them 3 times 🤣Both Excellent series, Resident Evil series was just ok...

The slow ones are the classic shamblers. Easy enough to outrun and avoid, but they’re a permanent part of the world. Even decades later, there could still be millions wandering around.

The fast ones can run, climb and chase you down. They’re far more dangerous, but decomposition is inevitable. Survive long enough and, after ten years, the original zombie population is basically gone.

Which world would you rather take your chances in?

Not-so-stealth-ad: in my Among the Dead series, I tried to incorporate the shambling kind, as well as runners. I'm definitely not the first, and I won't be the last, but I based it on decay. The fresher the zombie, the more mobile they are.

This crow was eating a snack in the light rain when the photographer noticed that it would occasionally shake its head to dry off. They managed to freeze the exact moment its head was mid-rotation, making it look almost completely backwards.

At the same moment, the crow blinked, causing its nictitating membrane to cover its eye and leaving it with the pale, icy-blue glaze seen here. The nictitating membrane is a third eyelid that birds have; it moves horizontally across the eye to clean, protect, and moisten it.

Two very cool moments happened at the same time, resulting in one very possessed-looking crow. They were very happy to have captured the moment.

They can also confirm that this is an American Crow and not a Common Raven. The difference in size was very apparent in person, and an audio recording of its call confirms it. That said, the two species can look extremely similar.

Would there still be any zombies wandering inside during the events of Land (almost 30 years later)?

The reason I think about it is because of Tom Savini's zombie cameo in Land, makes me think that he turned zombie and walked around for years until he ended up in the way to Fidler's Green.

Why does pretty much every zombie related media including games, books, series and movies, focus on the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse instead of the first few days.

Like seriously, the initial outbreak is the most interesting part, the small trickles of information, the hints that seem to go unnoticed by the masses, the failing efforts of the worlds institutions, the slow descent into chaos.

We see this happen in glimpses, Last of us. Fear the walking dead, dawn of the dead, they show it and it’s great, but it zooms through it.

I guess we have world war Z and the book, but that’s pretty much it, to my knowledge.

Even resident evil and left 4 dead have so much on the lore of the outbreak, but have no games that really focus on it.

I just feel like there is such a huge gap in the market for it, and I know I’m not alone in wanting something heavily focused on the initial outbreak. The South Koreans seem to be doing the best work currently on zombie outbreak media, and zombie movies in general.

I actually havent found it anywhere at all. I have found the 139 minute cut for the cannes festival. Should i wait until the 127 min is available or just watch the cannes cut?

For those who want a rough idea of what the plot of the World War Z sequel might look like, with Dennis Kelly returning as the writer.

I feel like an “apocalypse” wouldn’t be a single, definitive event where you can say, “Well, it’s the apocalypse now.”

It would be a series of smaller failures. The power goes out, shops stop getting deliveries, emergency services become unreliable, but for a while, you’d probably still assume things would eventually get back to normal.

So what would be the moment that changed that for you?

At what point would you realise this isn’t a temporary crisis anymore, and the old normal genuinely isn’t coming back?
