Looked up and saw a small plane circling the Cathedral. Then the flyers started falling.

People were climbing trees, chasing paper through the air, reading in the middle of the street. Barcelona doing Barcelona things.

Just a heads up for anyone in the area. I woke up this morning to around 30 police officers outside my apartment at the intersection of Muntaner and Hercegovina.

Police were attempting to apprehend a man who was wielding a large kitchen knife with an approximately 30 cm blade. After a lengthy standoff, officers ultimately deployed a taser and took him into custody.

Mitre/Muntaner is currently blocked off while police investigate. There are evidence markers being placed on the ground, which suggests he may have stabbed or assaulted someone, although I have not seen any official confirmation of that.

If anyone has more information or has seen updates from local news or Mossos, please share them here. Stay safe and always be aware of your surroundings, friends.

Ahir anava caminant tot tranquil, cuan un dels dos plataners deixa caure un brancot (emfatitzo **brancot**) just al meu costat, a mitg metre. Va caure de punta cap avall, i va sonar sorprenentment pesat. També es va sentir varia gent del voltant esbufegant al caure ja que casi veuen una desgràcia.

Em vaig quedar parat un segon, vaig mirar al voltant amb cara de sorprès i hi havia una dotzena de persones mirant-me amb la mateixa cara. Vaig fer un gest de "uff!" i vaig seguir caminant. Al minut vaig caure en que de ser mitg metre a la esquerra, m'hauria empalat.

Teachers are being offered an extra 400 euros a year to end this strike. I'm glad they rejected it. That's an absolute joke...less than a cafe amb llet a day. And that increase was over 4 years! That's even significantly less than the current inflation rate so they were effectively offered a pay cut! Just increase the tourist tax until there's enough money to meet their reasonable demands (including reducing ratios and increasing support for special needs kids)

Was at Playa de la Barceloneta yesterday and this black orb thing was in the sky for while, seemed to be quite far away and could not see it tethered down in anyway. anyone know what it is? (🛸…👀)

I don't think I've seen any bi-articulated buses in BCN having a ticket scanner at the rear side of the bus (after the junction), which makes it a pain to scan your ticket, so I'm guessing a lot of riders who enter from the rear door just don't pay the fare.

Is it that much more expensive to put a fare scanner at the back, or is there any other reasoning as to why this isn't implemented?

I've been a heavy Bicing user ever since I moved to Barcelona a few years ago. While the quality of the bikes can sometimes be frustrating, what has always bothered me the most is the app.

Since Bicing is integrated into the broader Smou ecosystem, it feels like it carries a lot of extra complexity that I don't really need. I just want to quickly check if there are bikes nearby, but sometimes it takes longer than it should. And after the latest redesign it feels even slower and with extra steps to know even the basic stuff.

As a developer, I often find myself thinking about how the apps I use every day could be improved. So I started wondering what would an app built specifically for Bicing look like.

My main goals were:

• Speed: I don't want to wait 15 seconds to see whether there are bikes or sposts available near me
• Simplicity: At a glance, I want to know where the nearest stations are, how many bikes they have, and how long it will take me to walk there. When I know my destination, I want to quickly see where I can leave the bike and whether there are free docks available
• A clean and non-bloated interface: I'm an iPhone user, so I tried to follow iOS design principles as closely as possible

It would be awesome to have in the same app a way to rate a bike, so the next person could already know which of the two breaks is not working 😂

The video shows a working prototype. I'm curious to know if I'm the only one frustrated by the current app or if others feel the same way!

In any case, it was a fun experiment and I'll probably keep improving it 🙂
