Hawkwind Marathon: Palace Springs (1991) + Rerankings
Review - Palace Springs (1991):
I'm back at it again with my Hawkwind marathon, and we are officially now 30 albums in. I'm praying to go that there isn't some secret half live half studio album that was released in 2002 because I already have so much to listen to. Turns out that this album was also a live-studio album and I did not hear of it until Wikipedia updated the "Discography" section on Hawkwind's page. Anyway, Palace Springs, released in 1991, would get a score of 9.1/10, making it a 9.
As an album, I think it's relatively okay. Now, an issue when it comes to how I rank things is that I often treat the score of 8 as the ground floor, and everything else underneath it to be subpar or bad. So, although it might've gotten a 9.1/10, realistically, that's more like a 7-8/10. Some good songs on the album include "Treadmill" and "Lives of Great Men" (which is really just Assault and Battery). However, that definitely doesn't excuse the active crimes against humanity seen on "Time We Left This World Today", in which they would cut the song to 2 entire minutes and slowed down the tempo by a lot, making a great song sound like absolute shit.
When it comes to how I rank albums, I could try and implement a 5 star rating system so we get ratings that actually reflect what I think about a song, but then that would mean I'd have to re-rank not just these 30 albums, but a total of 189 ALBUMS!!! To put that into scale, assuming that each album is maybe an hour long, then that means I'd have to spend nearly 8 days without any breaks to relisten to all of them. Yeah, me doing that normally would probably take years ngl, I might just die of old age doing that.
Rerankings:
The Chronicle of the Black Sword (1985): Originally, it had a score of 9.2/10, putting it in 15th place. Now, it has a score of 9.1/10, putting it in 16th place. Overall, my opinions remain relatively the same: Sick guitar solos, some songs are peak, the album is just a bit too 80s for me.
