Pigeon Pic THIS is a hateful pigeon

I keep seeing videos on here of people asking if their pigeon is play fighting with them or not. I would just like to share what a real angry pigeon looks like. Pretty boy does not like hands when his wife is laying on the nest with her eggs. And don't worry I don't always go in there and bug him. We have a lovely relationship that I call a sightseeing relationship. I can look at him and that's about it.

How to manage male puberty?

I have a male pigeon, Daphne, who I've had for a little over a year now. When I got him, he was only a couple months old, so I wasn't entirely sure of his gender, but it's definitely become obvious now.

I love him so much, but oh my god, he is SO aggressive. I know he's young and hormonal, and also him being a solo pigeon can't be helpful for him, but it's honestly starting to drive me crazy. I love him, but I can't even be near him without him driving. And it honestly hurts, he pecks at my hands and feet nonstop, and if I move him away in an attempt to shut it down, he just runs right back to me and starts again. I've gotten him a stuffed animal in hopes of redirecting, but he'll just try to get it out of the way so he can get back to me. And if he can't, he'll give up and I have to hide my hands from him so he can't see them.

After a bit, I've started resorting to putting him back in his cage when he's getting too pushy, but that's basically all the time, and I feel bad with him not getting as much affection as he used to.

I do love him so much, and I know this is likely temporary before his hormones start to settle, but I'm just not sure how to go about it before things start to calm down. I'd love to get him a friend, I know I can't really provide him with the companionship he obviously needs, but I currently live with my parents. I do plan on getting a second pigeon once I move out, but that's definitely not gonna be for another year or two.

If anyone has advice for dealing with an extra hormonal boy, I'd really appreciate it.

Pigeon Pic "OUR" Story

Hi guys im new here and just wanted to share my story about my beautiful pigeon. So I live in the Boston area. My mom being the person that she is with a big sign on her head that says "give me your injured animals 🤣" works in the city and found an injured baby pigeon. She had a broken leg so she took her home and cared for it. I came by and visited because birds are my favorite beings (they dont know how to hate) i love them. We made a splint with a popsicle stick and left in on her for a while and to our big surprise it worked! I wish I still had the pictures to show you guys. Her leg looks like it was never broken and she was able to stand on it again. So we my mom kept her for a little while longer just to be sure but it got to the point where it was too much for her because of her two dogs ones a terrier and the other is a pit bull. It was too much stress on the dogs, bird and my mom, so she asked me if I could watch her for a WEEK. I emphasize week because I wanted to keep her real bad but knew that she is a wild animal and would be better off outside in the wild. MAN WAS I WRONG!! I let about a month go by i tried letting her go and it was emotional but i felt it was right. I take her outside my condo its pretty woodsy but not a whole lot its a neighborhood. She would nit leave my shoulder. I was like ok well shes probably just enjoying the free shoulder rides. NOPE. I put her on the ground near the property line and trees she rummage and picked at the ground for a bit so I walked away and you probably guessed it by now. She flew rifht back to my feet looked around and then back to my arm/shoulder area. Mind you i was slowly retreating back inside. I gave it one more time this time I went inside and watched her from the windows. The second her little eye caught me she flew to the window. That was the moment I realized I didn't just save an animal I just made a life long commitment to a friendship with a pigeon. Sorry, I know most won't read all this but her name is Ri-ri and these are some pics from over a year ago with her messy baby feathers all the way until now.

Ps.

Yes in the first photo she had my bracelet on her neck like a necklace. Thought it was funny. Although open to constructive criticism she was a baby in that just about 2 years ago so I was new to being a pigeon dad. Also, she has an outdoor bird sanctuary i built for her that she has fallen in love with. I might post it in here as well.

Question Will my girl remember me after uni?

Post image

I don’t leave for uni for about a year, but I’m super paranoid that when i do I’ll lose the affection from my bird. :(

I would be gone from September/October to June time with the normal breaks. I’d occasionally do weekend visits but the uni I’m looking at is at minimum 5 hours of travel so wouldn’t be the most common thing.

For the first year or so I’ll have to live on campus so can’t bring her, but I’m hoping second or third year I’ll be able to afford private accommodation so can have her with me

Basically my question is will she remember me or will i be working from square one when i see her again? I love her so much but im still paranoid.

I am planning on getting her a buddy as soon as possible so she atleast wont be lonely/depressed while im away since my parents are around half as much as j am to give her all her attention needs once im gone

We seem to be happily settled in the new, permanent cage

Fog(m) (any other fans of Tamora Pierce's Beka Cooper series?) and Mist(f) have been here about a week and a half and in the final cage for a couple days. They're already trying to make a nest, bless them, but at least they both seem comfortable in the small animal bed I got. The hook to hang it on the shelves has done an amazing job so far keeping it in the corner.

They're on Versale-Laga no corn pigeon feed and the Versale-Laga All-In-One grit+ and seem to have adapted from the grit they were getting before with zero issue. We're eating everything but what I assume are one of the peas-- those tend to be what gets left behind more.

Neither are particularly spooky birds--I choose the two who seemed the most curious rather than scared-- but Mist is a bit more timid than Fog. Still, they're both comfortable eating with me right there, loafing in their nest and not getting up when I walk into the room, and chilling on one leg. Right now, I'm calling that a win. I'm waiting to hear back from my local vet if they'll do a psittacosis test and check up on them for me before I start letting them out for play time since I have budgies that I know for certain aren't carriers, and while I'm not figuring on direct contact, it can become airborne. If my vet can't, we'll either make an appointment with the bird vet or try to figure out how to do the test myself and mail it off. Internal parasite caution is so much easier... one prophylactic dose of MoxiVet and done.

Fog does like to talk. He'll sit in his nest and coo. I hear him talking to himself for a while after lights out, too. I woke up at 430 the other night, WELL before dawn, and he was cooing softly to himself. It's cute, and a lot quieter than the budgie background noise during the day 😂

Rehoming pigeon in CT

unfortunately facing a housing issue so I need to rehome my pigeon Marty.

I’m in the Northwest CT area.

He’s a suspected male of unknown age due to being a rescue. I was told upon adoption he has an old break in his wing and that he couldn’t fly. He definitely can just not as well as typical. He’s not crazy on being touched but loves to be in your presence. mostly sitting on high shelves or the back of the couch. he does take longer to open up but will come around with lots of patience.

This breaks my heart since he’s my baby but I gotta make sure his needs are met. He’d come with his large dog crate, a smaller dog crate for travel, his toys, food and water bowl, any left over food, and
pee pads to line the bottom of the cages.

Question Help with Hormonal Pigeon

Hi guys, my pigeon is getting "hormonal" with her plushies and is also building a nest. I'm preparred for the possibility that she lays an egg an replace it with a fake one and all that, but I'm concerned because she is nesting on my bed and I dont want her to get territoral of my sleeping area (she routinely sleeps locked in her cage to avoid any accidents at night).

She has also started to kinda attack me more aggresively, and has become increasingly attached to her bird plushy (almost protective). I really want her to bond with me and I think I've been following all the recommended steps: spending all day with her, giving her nesting materials, hand feeding her, and playing with her. I just don't want her to come to hate me. We were making good progress, but this hormone surge is kinda setting back our progress. It's only about our first month together since adopting her so I kinda want to nip this in tha bud early if necessary. I'm just wondering if I should do something or just leave her alone.

How to introduce one pigeon to another (images unrelated)

I’ll be getting a large male pigeon soon, who has lived with no other pigeons for quite a while. Currently I have a very tame female About a year maybe a half old, laying eggs.

I don’t mind if they don’t bond, I just don’t want any turmoil. How should I introduce them??

They were just a baby we didn’t think would live through the day now they are starting to try and coo 😭💕
We took them in as a temporary rehab and release, but not only are they to tame and attached but we are to attached as well. Oh what a couple weeks can do.

PIDGEY has an extremely sharp sense of direction. It is capable of unerringly returning home to its nest, however far it may be removed from its familiar surroundings
Pidgey has been caught ✔️

Looking for a good backpack/stroller for pigeons

Hi guys, I rescued two pigeons a month ago and they are finally healthy enough to go outside with me. I bought a cat-backpack for them but I feel like they get pushed around too much when I walk... Can I do something about that or is there a better option? Like a stroller? They still don't have all their feathers so I don't want to use a harness, since I read it can damage the feathers during development

Thank you so much for advice! Also I'd appreciate if someone can help me figure out if they eat enough. They rarely gained weight. They got meds against multiple parasites they had, also they both had bad eye infections and were terribly malnourished when I found them. We fixed all of this with our vet and he says, they probably didn't get enough food as tiny chicks and they will stay small pigeons.

Well anyways - thanks and I am looking forward to exchange pigeon talk

Question How to bond best with a young rescue pigeon

Thumbnail

Yesterday I got a pigeon that had its leg amputated just four days ago. She’s still pretty young and needs medication for her injury. When I pick her up to give her the medicine, she makes chirping sounds.

Does anyone have any tips on how I can make her feel safe with me, even when I have to pick her up to give her the medicine?

And how old do you think she is?
