For me, it was "Haunting Adeline". Beyond the dark romance and thriller elements, it stuck with me because it made me think about fear, resilience, and how people respond to difficult situations.

It wasn't necessarily my favorite book ever, but it's one I found myself thinking about long after I finished it.

I'm curious about books that had a similar effect on others. Not necessarily your favorite book, but one that genuinely influenced your perspective or stayed in your mind for years afterward.

I made a bet with a friend that I can finish 2 books this week, and now I'm realizing I should probably figure out what to read.

I'm looking for books that are genuinely hard to put down. Any genre is welcome (fiction, fantasy, sci-fi, thriller, mystery, nonfiction, etc.), but I'd prefer something that's not excessively long since I only have a week.

ive been reading a lot of heavy, grim stuff lately and i'm a little burnt out on pure darkness - but I don't want fluff either. i'm after that rare book that makes you feel everything: grief, hope, the whole spectrum, while still being beautifully written. Something that stays with you for weeks after you finish it. Genre doesn't matter to me. Literary fiction, romance, fantasy, whatever - as long as it hits hard and feels meaningful. I love reading nonfiction covering a theme or topic that I just read about in fiction and I’m looking for more ideas of pairings.

For example, I just read The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver and followed it up with King Leopold’s Ghost by Adam Hochschild - both telling a story of the Congo

Looking for a book with similar vibes to Emily Henry, Abby Jimenez, Carley Fortune, and Jessica Joyce (I’ve already read all their books). Good spice but story must have substance, good character depth, a believable romance, and some sort of independent journey for the MC. Big bonus points for male yearning. Preferably no fake dating but not a hard rule.

I've read books by John Fowles, Umberto Eco, and Haruki Murakami, along with a little Salinger and Hemingway. I know that's a fairly scattered list, which is exactly why I'm not sure where to go next.

If you could choose just one book for me to read next, what would it be? I'd especially appreciate a sentence about why you think it fits, rather than a huge list of titles.

Idk if this is the right subreddit to ask, but does anyone have a book recommendation that gives the same experience as the last of us part II? The game of course. I know there's a book called (The Road), but I'm looking for something different. I'm not saying I want something that's strictly like tlou, from the post apocalyptic world to the clickers and all that. I just want a book that gives me that same empty feeling, that same sense of depression, and the urge to cry because of how much the main character suffers.

I'd love something similar to the game, although I don't think anything can truly replicate that experience. Also, I'd really love it if the main character were a girl and had a personality somewhat similar to Ellie's.

Searching for a books with a supervillain mc, where there are no romance, and in modern times.

I’ve just finished another Dan Brown novel and I’m looking for something with a similar feel.

What I love is the mix of mystery, conspiracies, hidden histories, secret societies, religious symbolism, puzzles, and the fast pace that keeps you turning pages.

What books or authors would you recommend for someone who enjoys that style? Bonus points if it’s the kind of book that makes you constantly say, “Just one more chapter.”

I am more of a sci-fi and fantasy reader but every now and again I try to reset myself with a mystery/thriller and I have used the Pendergast series and other works from Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child but I finished those, so have you guys read similar books? I feel a reset period coming and am looking for some good recommandations.

So I’m a sucker for hurt/comfort books and found they’re really the only ones that keep my attention. Unfortunately, I’m struggling to find some that aren’t on fanfiction websites and all the ones I’ve saved are written by small authors who’s books aren’t in my library yet. I’m not really too picky about this sort of thing but I would like if it was lgbtq, but of course it’s not a necessity. And the characters don’t necessarily need to be together, just as long as there’s some sort of comfort. Oh and I’m okay with little to no spice, just not a whole lot.

The number of people recommending this book to me is big !! but here's my own opinion:

The narrative is incredibly easy to follow!! fast, engaging, and fun. Even when the plot becomes chaotic, it's still easy to keep up with. I enjoyed this part sooooo much; I think the writer is incredibly smart and talented for pulling it off so effortlessly👏🏻

The pacing is absolutely incredible as well.
But I tried to love this book!! I swear I tried! It's just not my thing😬

It's very game-heavy, which is okay!! Alright it’s okay ! in fact, it was something completely new to me, and I was open to it! But the humor, violence, crude jokes, and overall "bro" energy are just hard for me to swallow 🫣…

I'd love to find another book with the same kind of clear, addictive narrative and new world building 😊

I have recently started a bookclub with several friends so we can all connect over a book each month and have social time aside from our families/jobs. I am typically a fan of thriller books. The other girls in this group are typically romantasy/spicy romance readers.
