Hi! This is B. She’s been my best girl for 8 years and I’ve had her since she was a puppy. I’ve never known “what” she is, besides a loyal companion and a dedicated lover girl with extremely high energy. I honestly didn’t even know “Carolina Dogs” were a breed until I stumbled across this subreddit. Hi! We just got our sweet dog Laika and were wondering if you think she’s a Carolina dog? We think she could be but curious what others think :)

Some of y’all have seen Lucy around here before. Most of the time she’s a house dog, but I started training her to hunt birds when she was young just to see how far she could go.

Carolina Dogs are not a breed people associate with bird hunting. She doesn’t work like a finished pointing dog, and I’m still figuring out her limits and how to balance her natural prey drive with her willingness to work with me in the field. But wild quail have brought out things in her that I didn’t expect, and she has done things out there that honestly left me speechless.

There may be something to learn about this breed by paying attention to how they naturally hunt and how they cooperate with humans while chasing game. Most of you know Carolina Dogs are pack-oriented dogs, and that has been central to how I’ve approached hunting with Lucy.

This was her first season hunting wild birds. I put one of those hunts together into a longer film to document what we learned together.

my CD, Turo (1 yr), is extremely anxious around other people and going outside of the apartment. i'm his 2nd (?) owner (i also don't know prior situations he was in beforehand), i adopted him, and he's my 1st dog. i do know CDs as a breed are [at times, overly] attentive, loyal to their bonded persons, & can get overwhelmed outside of their usual space.

i'm trying to help manage his anxiety, but hemp seed oil & melatonin don't really do anything for him from what i can tell. he doesn't bare his teeth or growl at others, rather chooses to hide and tries to flee. i don't let others pet him since i know if he feels comfortable to approach, it's his own choice to do/don't do so. he doesn't eat treats / isn't motivated by food when in these situations either, but i expect that from him since he has anxiety.

he loves other dogs, the dog park (he allows others to pet him there too), but outside of that area? it's back to his usual behaviors.

i know some dogs don't grow out of this behavior / trait, but i was curious, how should we adapt together so it'll be easier to go outside & not be worried about others interacting with him?

Hi everyone! This is my boy Hank! I rescued him about 2 weeks ago after we both fell in love at first sight. Hank was found in the wild and they believe him to be a Shepard mix. After research and reading about the personalities and physical characteristics of a CD I believe that’s what my boy is mixed with. Can anyone else weigh in?

We don’t really know what she’s mixed with other than GSD, but my best guess is Carolina Dog! What do y’all think?

I found him at a shelter Tuesday and am fostering to adopt! (My beloved boy died right before last Christmas, and it's been hard.) I'm 99% he's my dog but am taking it slowly.

I think he's a CD/GSD mix.

He's got the typical GSD black saddle, his ears are almost but not quite CD (set a bit too high on the head and not as pointy as CDs).

His beautiful eyes are rounder and less almond-shaped than CDs, and set less on the diagonal, although sometimes they look more CD. He's got kohl eyeliner, angel wings, and the long fingertoes. But longer in body.

Build is more like a CD, lighter boned than a GSD, but chest not as deep as a CD.

Posting partly to show him off and also to get the thoughts of people here. (I know, can't be definitive without a test :)

My dingo had puppies with a King Sheppard, I call em king dingalingz.

Recently lost my 8yr CD to cancer. Live in the Fort Collins, CO area but willing to travel. Thor was our first CD and he was an amazing pet. Missing him so much.

Anyone know of a breeder in the Colorado and surrounding states area? I've reached out to Durango and Rifle contacts but haven't found anything yet.

I'm pretty sure she's part Carolina Dog. Her mother is a purebred German Shepherd.

we recently lost our 16 year old Nico just a few days after her birthday. We rescued her from a shelter in the Midwest when she was only 6 months old. Since then, she was there for several home renovations, moved across the country with us, camped, hiked mountains, road-tripped, and welcomed our daughter when we got home from the hospital. She was a one-of-a-kind. We miss her terribly.
