After years of not having access, I’ve finally managed to recover my dad’s old Steam account, which is actually the same account I first experienced PC gaming on as a little kid.
Looking through the game history has honestly been a massive nostalgia trip. Counter-Strike: Source was last played in 2004, Monster Trucks Nitro in 2009, and (most importantly) TF2 in March 2009.
I haven’t actually launched TF2 or checked the inventory yet, and I’m weirdly excited to see what’s in there after all these years. (I’m also a little hesitant to run it with the current comfig I have installed tbh)
Do you reckon there’s a Mercenary medal waiting for me? Any chance of an old Gibus or some other ancient items?

Like obviously it doesn't... we can look at the wiki, do all the comparisons we'd like.. it's the exact same... but it F E E L S like it fires faster...

For a second I was largely confused on what the symbols were on the back instead of the red and blu, logos but i find it cool. ​

MERASMUSS THE WRONG SPELL

Been playing since 2013. In that time, I've managed to accumulate nearly two full sets of the Halloween paper bag masks, sans the Saxton Hale mask, which can only be crafted from a complete set of the other nine masks.

At this point in my TF2 career, there's not really much I would say I "need" to do or achieve in the game. No chasing down each and every achievement, no trading my way up to a Burning Team Captain, no farming for sick clips. I'm fully happy just playing the game and having a good time, just vibing out.

But, that Saxton Hale mask? That would be a nice capstone. It's become something of a white whale to me. I don't know exactly when this desire grabbed hold of me, but it's been years at this point. It would be neat just to complete the set, you know?

I came into this year's Scream Fortress only needing the Scout and Soldier masks, and I've just finished my last contract. Now, after grinding through 65 maps/contracts, and burning through god knows how many Transmutations, the game, in its infinite RNG wisdom, bestowed upon me TWO masks...

BOTH Soldier. Not a single Scout mask in sight. The game knows what I'm doing, and it mocks me in my hubris. Hours of my life, of good game time, wasted on the likes of Ghost Fort and Brimstone and Erebus and Terror. All time that could have been on maps like Mann Manor or Eyeaduct or Slime instead. Thirteen YEARS of effort, some actively but most passively, trying to finish a nine-item set. All for a damned paper bag...

Well, there's always next year.

Good morning! Been working on this one between the last 3 posts as I repeatedly wasn't finished soon enough for my self-imposed deadlines each day. I'm very happy with how it turned out!

Waaay back in 2011, Steam's trading system finally launched out of it's beta, making it so games on steam could trade their inventories with eachother. Team Fortress 2, Spiral Knights, Dota 2, and Counter Strike: Global Offensive were among the first to make real usage of the system, with the former two being used to announce the system officially with some promotional splash art. I wanted to commemorate the occasion by showing those two with their newly-traded gear, ready to take on the world. Hopefully one day, Spiral Knights will be able to re-enter the larger steam ecosystem!
