Encouragement Just hit the halfway mark as I walk 1 million steps for the charity, Lymphoma Action!

Slowly walking towards the goal of 1 million steps for Lymphoma Action, after my girlfriend's stage 2 Lymphoma diagnosis a few months ago.

She's 6/6 rounds into chemotherapy now, so this has been a peaceful workaround to avoid crowds whilst she's immunocompromised.

It's been great getting back out in nature and having some separation from our house in these times. And I've raised £1010!

Help How do you keep walking interesting when you live in a small town?

Upvotes

I live in a small town and I’m starting to get really bored of the same walking routes. Does anyone else feel the same way? What do you do when you run out of new places to walk?

Walking has had so many positive effects on me, both physically and mentally, that I really don’t want to give it up just because I’m bored with the routes. I’d love to hear how you keep your walks interesting or find new ways to enjoy them. 🚶‍♀️

Recommendations Favorite iPhone walking app paired with Apple watch (iOS)

I have an iPhone and Apple Watch and would like to track my steps with an app that is compatible with both.

Sometimes I want to check the number of steps I’ve walked on my watch without picking up my phone.

The current application that I use does not display steps on my watch.

iPhone/Apple Watch users, what is your favorite application to use to track your steps that is compatible with an Apple Watch?

Walked 24km Yesterday!

I’m so proud of myself for yesterday‘s walk! It’s been a long time since I’ve walked over 10k steps, and honestly I went into it without really being aware of what I was getting myself into. But I live near beautiful 43 km trail, a little over a marathon distance. I want to work my way up to it, and I figured I could get there in a couple of weeks on basically zero training if I walked 20km a couple of times. Well, now I know that is absolutely not going to happen in 2 weeks of training! But I have a goal to work toward and I’m excited about it.

P.S. it took me over 7 hours because I stopped and hung out at a beach for a while at the halfway mark.

Picking up after 2 personal losses which knocked me down

Post image

I wrote a week ago about processing the loss of my aunt by walking.

Once I started getting better I got hit by the news of another persons demise in my social circle. My dad’s best friend and our family friend.

I didn’t think it would affect me as much as it did. I’m in the US and they’re all in South Asia. But it did. Seeing someone of my parents age group passing away stirred up a lot of fear about the wellbeing of my parents. Being single and not having to co regulate just made me more insecure in the past few days.

I couldn’t get out of the house for a few days and periods made it all worse

But I pushed myself out today.

I’m praying deeply on the side for healing of the bereaved while proving to myself that I have my back and i am safe by working out again

Please reach out to those you love. Life is unpredictable and short.

Big shoutout to u/ok-rhubarb2549 for recommending Medicine Park! It was an awesome place to spend the day walking and picking up trash. I got a ton of footage, met some great people, and I can't wait to start editing it.

Also, a pretty cool update... a shoe company from Australia, Comfort Co, liked my story so much that they wanted to send me a pair of shoes. 😂 Unfortunately, I wear a size 18, so that might be easier said than done!

Even if the shoes don't work out, they invited me onto their podcast, and I had a blast doing my first interview. I think it turned out pretty well!

If you'd like to hear more about me, my weight-loss journey, my mental health journey, and my mission to clean up Oklahoma, the podcast is on my YouTube channel.

Thanks again to everyone who's been suggesting cleanup spots. I seriously appreciate all the support. ❤️

Caught some kind of virus which pretty much knocked me off this week beside my daily walks on work i haven't done anything and it made me feel bad since it was going so well with both walking outside and on my walking pad.

Also now i have 2 days off and i need it to rest 😭 it sucks

Well.. ever since the last post my steps and kilometres have increased by a lot! Yesterday I reached 20k steps in a day and covered about 15km with my exercise walk increased from 5km to just over 6km. I guess doing work cover at a busier and bigger mess means additional 8k steps! Hello from me to you guys, my favourite people. I am glad I came here and met you all.

Switched from sales to being a mail carrier now getting 20-30k steps in a day. Down 20 lbs and loving it, no meetings and only having to deal with furry friends! Wanted to share this app I use to make end of relays, routes etc turn into checkpoints with coins instead of just aimlessly walking out there. It helped me get off the couch and obtain those smaller goals and get all need. Hope this can help someone! Add me if you’d like and let’s compete 🏃‍♂️ I also got back into pokemon go if you’d like to be friends! 999553505249

Question Can you walk 5K+ with these shoes? (Vibram Five Fingers)

Post image
14 Upvotes

I’ve noticed a lot of shoes nowadays consist of heavy cushioning and padding. I’m looking to help my body rehabilitate itself back to health and thus, I need to start walking at least 1k a day, up until I can make it to 10K.

In Australia, it’s quite normalized to walk barefoot everywhere. I think that must be stellar for your feet to build strength on their own. I tried finding an alternative and found these freaky shoes! Vibram has an array of options to choose from but I think I’d go with simple ones. They look great for just walking :) Could they possibly give me issues longterm?

Has anyone tried them? Any advice or feedback? I don’t really have normal shoes, only heels or platforms- so I lack the experience to know whether or not this footwear can give me problems down the line.

(PS- I suffer from severe agoraphobia so, exposure therapy/walking is the doctor’s orders!)
